With that, we come to the end of episode 12.
Tune in next week, for a sudden and inevitable betrayal!
This is a new variant on the streaky backgrounds, most reminiscent of the backgrounds from Madison Square Garden back in episode 2. It lacks the little blips and blops that make the streaky background streaky, if you know what I mean. Now it's just wavy gradients.
Brilliant lighting, though.
When two evenly-matched opponents' attacks do this, you should make sure to clear the area.
It feels kinda wrong that they introduced Master Gundam in the preview of episode 13; I feel like that reveal should've been kept to the actual episode. But I am not a showrunner.
Really cool coloring on the ball, but it doesn't have the purple light that we'll come to know and love from the "Darkness" line of attacks.
Oh hey, these guys again. Looks like they're waiting here to team up with Domon! How kind of them to help him assist with the repairs to Tokyo.
From this perspective, the little glowing thing in the center of Bolt Gundam's chest looks like it's meant to be a cockpit window.
I get what they're going for here, but that is a wildly off-model version of any of the metro trains running in Tokyo. It doesn't have trucks!
Master Asia says, "Explode", and the zombie explodes. But was this an attack, or a command? Was the damage inflicted, or was the zombie following orders? Tune in next week!
I'm going to tag the pilots of the Death Army suits as "Zombie", for ease of reference.
This pan had some sharp parts on the edges, so I drew some edge lines and carefully extended the linework to the edges.
This shot did the twofer thing of alternating between two nearly-identical cels, but I grew tired of the gimmick and only stitched one.
Another panning shot of Kowloon Gundam, but this time the forearms look short, and it's daytime.
That solid front armor flap really must chafe the thighs.
Death Army mobile suit, humans for scale. Bananas not in evidence.
"Paint me like one of your French women." "I don't have any French women, just a Neo Japanese mechanic-doctor-therapist-tripsitter-friend-counselor-bodyguard-pseudogirlfriend." "Oh, you're not George De Sand. My bad."
In this stitch, I elected to remove as many of the Death Army lights as possible, but that still meant some were visible, lurking on the horizon.
Beautiful single-point perspective in this shot, though.
More of the solid eyeballs.
Another "Bwom" moment!
And for the robot-joint sickoes in the chat, have a detail shot of the knees.
But my real question is this:
The quadrupedal "Death Beast" has only a long rifle. The bipedal Death Army suits have only the oni club rifle. Where did the new gun come from?
"My, Mr. Kowloon Gundam, how big your rocket flares are."
A plain stitch.
Having danced to the right, the Death Army now dances to the left.
Still no clue as to what's in their backpacks, or even a reason for why some fly while the hordes walk. Isn't there an Evil Overlord rule about this?
Remember, kids: The story of the lemmings is false.
The stories of hordes of summer campers rushing into the wave pool, trampling each other in their haste, breaking ribs and drowning the kids up front, is a tragic cautionary tale.
The Death Army never learned it.
Don't run near the pool.
This sure looks like a different waterfront, from a Gundam series that aired well after this one.
The overflight effect and timing in the animation was very cool; I decided to keep as much of that impression as possible by keeping the jetflares of the mobile suits as they fly away.
