Hi! My name is Sofya, I’m 26 years old and live in Russia.

I have a bachelor degree in History (Contemporary History, 20th century) and a master degree in medieval History.

And now I’m doing a PhD in (you guess) History.

But apart from that I work in the office (5/2), do tutoring, study politics, read fiction and non-fiction books.

I’m writing an article this month. One time at a library, more times at my office instead of work. I have some progress and I know I will finish it in July. It needs to be done.

10:00 kończę notatkę z makroekonomii, która wczoraj wieczorem zaczęłam. Teraz spisuje brakujące informacje do notatek z rachunkowości (sama teoria), potem czeka mnie prawo i robienie quizów, podatki i ponownie makroekonomia, ale tym razem obliczenia. Dzisiaj ma być bardzo gorąco i tylko ma się pogarszać w następujących dniach. Siedzę w schłodzonym domu i próbuje się uczyć. Zostało kilka dni do egzaminów semestralnych. Na późne popołudnie zostawiłam czytanie notatek

really dissapointed with myself today. havent been working much and I found myself completely unable to focus, getting distracted by tumblr or fic writing or something else ever so often. forced myself to leave the library before it got too late so i'll have to keep working at home. had a nice day with a friend though, had takeaway subway in the library and chatted for ages. need to get my attention span working again

Master's thesis work is getting serious these days... I have until late September! Also hanging out with lovely people in my free time <3

Today I've relocated to a branch library with AC to escape the heat. Plans for the rest of the day, let's see how many of these I'll actually get to:

23.06.2026—the weather this week has been sooo cold this week, im actually not cut out for this. my hands and feet do be freezing. but ive still managed to be productive, thankfully — and this draft is (slowly) making progress

No one really tells you how research works

But then again, if there was a guide, it wouldn’t be research anymore, would it?

I think I’m burnt out. I don’t want to do PhD. I don’t know why I’m doing it. I work in the office and I’m not going to be curious enough to be a full time researcher. And I want money and don’t want to work extra hours.

I think I’m doing PhD because my family want me to do this.

I think I’m doing it because I’m too afraid to stop my intellectual life and be just a worker. I’m too afraid of degradation.
