Using projection to show more than one image is a unique ability. I’ve seen a lot of these artworks on TikTok and in art galleries from school trips. It’s almost like a warshak test in a way to bring out something that may be easily visible to one person but harder for another. Similarly hiding pieces of art behind others or revealing the art makes the use of a canvas more fulfilling. time in sound, color, and vision.

Using time and lighting in art reminds me of reading manga. It can be used for this art form to convey sounds, light, and time passing without seeing or hearing anything. When I think about the dimensions of time I think about art like hieroglyphics or any art trying to communicate the changes over time. One of my favorite works of art that show time passing is the ‘Slow Rush’ album art by Tame Impala. The photos were captured by Neil Krug in the Namibia desert that used to be a successful mining town for diamonds. The cover resembles the passing of time by the sand filling the insides of buildings naturally over many years, and the album speaks on time taken for granted or moving too quickly. The fact that really anything can become insignificant over time eases my mind in a way that Billie Eilish stated it. She said in 100 years no one will remember who she is, so she can do anything she wants and no one will remember. Something we praise so much and that brings great value can one day be forgotten and left to be buried by memories or ruins. The whole album and artwork really give an interesting perspective over time visually, and through sound.

I choose to do my own take on The Artist is Present

After watching the documentary I thought it was such a powerful piece I want to recreate and experience something similar using animals in a natural but slightly surreal environment.

I wanted the piece to obviously have some humor to it, but still show some connection

to the characters .

It definitely was fun and I loved the process of getting the whole thing together.

Even though I work in film and commercials I still enjoy putting together all the moving parts of a project..

i felt this deeply.

acne has been an issue i’ve dealt with since i was 10 years old.

i remember my first pimple on my nose for picture day. my mother helped me pop my first one.

a strange memory.

since then it continued to worsen.

i’ve tried every acne solution under the sun.

nothing…

it’s genetic, i’m told.

my grandpa, my father, even my uncles suffered with terrible acne and eventually scars.

for so long, it has blocked my confidence and self perception. i try and smile through the pain of wanting and wondering what it would be like not to have acne scars.

i spend a lot of time staring into mirrors for someone who doesn’t like their own skin.

so i dressed my scars up with little stickers to make them seem beautiful and not ugly for today.

Performance Art Reading Response

Article 1: Performance art is very interesting. It provides an open conversation or interaction that most art doesn’t. Today we post pictures, or videos of art work and receive comments and likes back. However, with the performance art you can receive live feedback, live interaction, and see real time reactions to the work. This idea is really interesting to me. I think it is more inviting than looking at a sculpture, or a painting, or an Instagram post. I’ve often conceptualized videos I would like to make that could be similar to this art form such as being affected to different media.

Article 2: These performances were misinterpreted by the public and artists alike. They were using people to maintain their hierarchy, their power, and status by caging them and making an example of them. This article highlights the dark side to performance art. Using people against their will and making statements to establish dominance and keep the people on the bottom down. This was used to display the the genetic inferiority of non-European races.

Between the two it is clear to see they were very different approaches. Beginning performance art was put in place to make non-Europeans remain inferior in the eyes of the public. It was a system built to shame others and when it comes down to it publicly torture and humiliate human beings by allowing them to be starved or laughed at, made fun of. Performance art started as a dark and ugly display of people involuntarily, to something that has become an option display art by choice of the perfromer.

“Never Give Up”

Throughout the Demon Slayer anime, Tanjiro is faced with countless battles of strength, endurance, and perseverance. He never gives up even when things get harder for him he keeps going. This is a great characteristic to have in a person. His will to survive inspires me to continue even when things get hard. Instead of giving up, just jeep training, practicing, getting better, until I succeed. These battle moments motivate me to never give up.

social norms and systems were made to be bent and broken. "K-12" defies the expectations set on "Crybaby" in her life that follow her from youth to adulthood. These visuals give me power when I think of the fact that we have control over our own lives and how we are treated and how we react. Even when life feels hopeless, lonely, and out of control, there is always an option especially with a friend. This film is powerful and these alarming moments of her and her friends owning their power gives me hope and comfort in my own individuality.

Gifs were an iconic part of media in the Myspace days. I remember using them in iMovie and other editing projects or to send messages to friends. They have come a long way to be sold for thousands of dollars in digital space. NFTs now are access to concerts or sold by global artists to own the original work. They are now made with such good graphics that they can look more realistic than their original form. The digital art world is forever growing and a great space for artists to get their art seen by a lot of people.

Capitol Records has always been an iconic building to me. I’ve seen it in so many movies and when I was working in the music industry I had the opportunity to go inside and sit on the rooftop during sunset. It has its own unique shape and holds a sense of power to me. I love seeing the progress of buildings over time. The beginning images looks like a circular parking lot but now it is clearly THE Capitol Records building.

“Inevitable Death”

Death is inevitable, and one thing that makes us human is that we know one day we will die. Animals don’t know that some day they will no longer exist but we live life knowing we have limited time. When I think of time passing I think of death. I think about death a lot but I’m surprised to find that many people do. Death is a theme represented in music, movies, TV shows, books, and more. We all worry about death even at a young age. At 17 Billie Eilish’s debut album was titled: “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” I think she is referring to death and the uncertainty that comes along with it. This collage was created from cutting images from 15-20 magazines.The perfect song to listen to while viewing this is “Happen To Me” By Benee.

“Machine Warfare”

Machines have become a massive crutch and powerful entity that over time it has come to rule us all. We rely on technology to do everything for us, and it feels like one day it eventually will. I wanted to create perspective with the size of the images being larger than life. In this collage of papers I wanted to show a sense of power and control. When I think of time, I think of the future and the future is machine. I cut out images from about 15-20 magazines that looked dark and told the narrative of machines having power. The perfect song to listen to while viewing this is “Internet Friends” by Knife Party.
