We have been waiting for a while, but GABRIELA RODRIGUEZ was finally spotted in the village today. People heard whispers that she is a PHOENIX that is hellbent on [ destroying ] the veils. Will she succeed? Only time can tell. Until then we will keep a close eye on her as she listens to "GIRL ON FIRE" by ALICIA KEYS and search for CHRISTIAN REEVE, her FATHER.
~ THE BIOGRAPHY ~
Although she was born in the mountains of Utuado, Gabriela and her mother moved to Manhattan, New York when she was five years old. She didn’t know why her mother moved them to the mainland, but after a few years she learned that it had to do with her father. Gabi’s mother never wanted her to know her father, or have any sort of contact with him, so she moved them in an attempt to make sure Christian couldn’t find them. Even so, they frequently went back to Puerto Rico, every summer in fact, because of all the family they had down there.
No matter how many questions Gabi asked about her father, her mother refused to talk about him. Eventually, Gabi stopped asking. She grew up independent and outspoken, the daughter of a woman who was the same and taught her daughter how to think and speak for herself. This often led to Gabi getting into arguments or fights with people, as she refuses to back down when she believes she’s right, believing in her right to be heard.
Unfortunately, because of her phoenix blood, this often led to outbursts of fire. Despite having her fire powers since she was a baby, she struggled to control it for a long time, especially when she grew angry or upset. As a result, she was in and out of juvie as a young teen on charges of arson. Her mother did her best to teach her methods of staying calm, but part of Gabi enjoyed seeing the flames. They were a part of her, and she was proud of them.
In college, she ran into an old classmate, August Leiman. In high school, she despised him because of his bullying ways, but in college she saw a new side of him. They grew close and began dating, but after a couple years she discovered that he wasn’t in love with her; he claimed he couldn’t feel those types of feelings, and, not knowing about aromanticism, Gabi exploded in hurt and anger. They had a terrible fight where awful words were exchanged, and she left him surrounded by ash.
She threw herself into her studies to distract herself. One of the methods of meditation her mother taught her was drawing. Gabi found as a teenager that she really enjoyed design and sketching floor plans. It kept her focused and calm. She got her degree in Design Architecture and moved on to join a firm. She gained a good reputation for herself and rose up in the ranks until she was designing large-scale buildings. Her favorite thing to design, though, are houses and museums, because of how creative she can get with them.
This year, Gabi was hired to design an official Wildemount museum and is in town to begin that project. She knows her father also lives in Wildemount, but she's not actively seeking him out. If they run into each other, they run into each other. She is not looking for a relationship with him.
