Gabriel was bored. He hated feeling the anxiety in his bones as he sat down at the table. “If things get any slower around here I’m going to start being concerned we live in a cemetery with how dead things have been.”

“But are men that are probably more appropriate for you what you really want?”

“We can hope.” He sighed, shrugging. “I’ve been gone twenty years, it might be hard to connect to any of ‘em.”

“I’m sure there will at least be one you can connect with pretty easily.”

“Uh huh. Well, good luck then.”

“I hope that means you’re not completely rejecting me.”

“Super. That’s not intimidating at all.”

“At least with a family that size it should be easy to find someone you connect with?”

“Is that your master plan?”

“I mean there’s a little more to it than that, but that’s the basics of it, yeah.”

“How large is…extremely large, exactly?” He asked slowly, “actually never mind, I don’t think I want to know.”

“Large, that’s all I’m aware of. It feels like everyone in town is related to them somehow.”

“Eh, fair enough. Time seems to move different for me, anyway.”

“That just means I can keep throwing myself at you at least.”

Darian sighed, unsure if he wanted to know although he needed to. “Infamous for what, exactly?”

“Just for being an extremely large family that’s really close. It’s weird. And I mean there’s other strangeness about them, but everyone is weird around here.”

“Is there a reason that sounds so ominous?”

“They’re kind of infamous around here.”

“I guess I have to take your word on that, since I know next to nothing about any of them.”

“I mean I can tell you what I do know but it’s based on what everyone in town knows.”

“I’m also twice your age, you probably don’t want me in your league.”

“A gorgeous woman is a gorgeous woman no matter her age. It’s just a number.”

“Yeah, I grew up in foster care, I’m not versed in it either. Guess I just didn’t expect there to be a twin.”

“From what I know I doubt they know about you. They’re not the type to abandon their kids.”

“You don’t– know if it’s possible there’s a reason for that, do you?”

“Dude I know next to nothing about that family, but maybe start with actually talking to them?”

“If you say so.” Malia laughed, “thanks.”

“No need to thank me. I was only complimenting a woman who is clearly out of my league.”

“Not even in the slightest.”

“You’ve gotta be kidding me.” Darian muttered. “No, I’m not Brylan. Whoever the hell that is. But I’m getting really tired of people calling me that.”

“Dude, you look exactly like this guy I went to school with. Like identical. It’s kinda creepy.”
