So...

Mending the damage
“Whatever you would like.” Richard smiled, turning his attention to the fridge and opened it to look over their options. “We have orange juice, bottled water, beer, ginger ale, milk, and a bottle of wine I never got around to cracking open…never really had an occasion to do so.” The older man pursed his lips in thought for a moment, scrambling around mentally for what he himself was in the mood for. Eventually the older man reached in and grabbed up the small wine bottle, looking over the year and smiling a little before turning his gaze over towards Gabe. “Well, for me, this is a good enough occasion as any. I kinda miss having guests around, you know?”
Gabriel blushed at what Richard said and smiled softly "I guess that a very good reason, if it's alright I'll join you in that" he offered loving the smile Richard was giving. He felt happy that he was able to do this with Richard, to be honest he missed this a lot. He was happy he had asked Richard out on this… now that they seemed to of gotten past the whole awkward stage they had gone through, he felt so much better now.. As Richard poured him a glass of the wine, Gabe knelt back down to pet Laura who was wanting attention again. He scooped the little cat into his arms and picked her up. She had left behind some white hairs all over his black pants from how much she had been rubbing herself against his legs. “I uh.. think she still likes me..” he said with a soft chuckle as he ran his fingers back though her soft hair and she leaned into his touch, happy Gabriel had picked her up and was giving her attention again.

It hadn’t been long since Bryan had killed Cathy, not long since Gabe found out and instantly hated him for what he did regardless of if he didn’t mean it or not which he didn’t since Bryan never dreamed of hurting anyone… except for that one dream he had a while ago which he hated.. Bryan gulped as he knew Gabe had to come back home, he was surprised that Gabe hadn’t left to go somewhere else.. live with someone else while he waited to get his own place.
He didn’t blame Gabe for hating him, Gabe had every right to hate him.. he glanced to the door as Gabe came in. He didn’t say anything. He knew Gabe wouldn’t speak to him so he didn’t say a word. He just shifted his attention back to the TV.

Gabriel walked into the house quietly. He used to not dread going home from work… he used to look forward to being able to spending time with Bryan, his best friend, and talk about random thing… now he just.. he couldn’t bring himself to even look at bryan. Let alone be in the same room as him. any time bryan would enter the same room as him, gabe quickly fled to a different one, completely avoiding conversation. Secretly, Gabe missed the old bryan… he missed the man that was there to comfort him when he was sad, and the guy who would play video games with him till 4 AM, he even missed how they would sit on the roof of the apartment complex they lived in and just look up at the stars together, quietly talking about life together… he missed all of that… but because of what bryan did, gabe just couldn’t stand looking at him anymore…. He knew bryan would be aware of him being home now… but he didn’t call out to him to announce his presence to the other man. Gabe quietly walked into the kitchen to go and grabs himself something to eat since he was hungry. He said not a word as he passed by the living room entrance and also by Bryan…. he didn’t even look slightly in the others direction…
Bryan sorta glanced at Gabe as he passed by, he missed talking to him.. it was painful, it was all so painful, not being able to spend time with him or even be in the same room as him.. just hurt so badly. Every second, every damn second he hoped that this was all a dream, that this was his mind trying to fuck with him but.. he knew it was all real..he knew that there was nothing that could fix this. Nothing. Sometimes, sometimes he wondered.. what if he disappeared? Would Gabe notice? Would he even care? He knew Gabe well but.. at this rate he also knew that he must hate him too much to care if he left.
Bryan sighed as he turned the TV off and pushed himself up, these thoughts were hurting him so much. He wanted to cry, he fucked everything up and he wanted to just hope that it would kill him in the end. It was too much. He couldn’t bring himself to see anyone else in fear he’d hurt them too. He made his way to his room, not saying a thing.
Gabriel quietly got out a cup-o-noodles for him to eat. He boiled some water and then poured the water into the cup and let it sit for a bit. Once the noodles were ready in the package, gabe fished a fork out of the drawer and started slurping up some noodles as he made his way into the living room to go and sit down and just watch some TV for a bit. Once settled on the couch, Gabe flipped though the channels, wanting to distract himself from the hurt he felt every time he even looked at the other man, and finally decided on a movie that seemed to have a lot of shooting in it. He just wanted something to help take his mind off of things. He quietly ate his cup of noodles and stared at the tv quietly as he cuddled down into the couch.

It was a chilly for a night in June. The sky was overcast, and the moon was unable to reach it’s beams though the clouds that shrouded it from view, making for a rather darker night down below the darkened clouds. Only the lights of the occasional street light and the headlights to Gabe’s car seemed to be the only sources of lights that night… Gabe left his apartment around 5 in the morning… not like he had been sleeping or anything, he had been up all night and had been playing street fighter with Bryan the entire time. (Which, he in fact, kicked Bryan’s ass at every round). Gabe stepped out of his car into the cool air of the early morning. There was no sign of the sun rising yet… but he knew it usually didn’t rise for at least a hour or two. Gabe he quickly snatched up a the brown paper bag, decorate with advertisements and shuffled up the drive way and up to the door of the house that was owned by his beloved. Gabe had stopped by a McDonalds and had grabbed Kevin something to eat for after work. He wasn’t sure if the guy liked Egg McMuffins or not… but if he didn’t he would just let the guy have the pancakes he had gotten for himself.. He quickly unlocked the door with the spare key Kevin had given him, stepped into the house, then stored the key in his pocket as he closed the door behind him. Not even a minute later after flipping on the lights, he heard Mallory walk out of the bathroom and to him quacking as she walked, her little tail wiggling as she made her various duck noises. Gabriel smiled kneeling petting her gently as she came right up to him, “Hey Mallory, nice to see you again” he greeted only to gain a loud quack back. Gabriel chuckled giving her a soft pat before standing up. Gabe looked around. He was originally just going to wait here until Kevin got home to greet him, but as his eyes moved over the messy layout of the house, an idea came to they young man’s mind.. He made his way to the kitchen, set the bag of breakfast on the counter and grabbed a trash bag to begin his work. He started cleaning up the random cans and trash that littered the floor hoping to pick them up so that he didn’t trip on anything… and also do a small favor for Kevin.. he really wasn’t cleaning all that much but things like empty pop bottles and empty potato chip bags got tossed away in to his rubbish bag. He managed to get the kitchen rather decently cleaned up… though it did take more than one garbage bag to do so… . It was probably the cleanest room in the townhouse now. He went to the hallway to pick up some random cans and knelt down only to get a very big surprise as he gazed into the hall closet. He found a makeshift-nest made of random clothes and some other things with a small clutch of eggs in it . Mallory waddled up beside him quacking as she went to lay on the eggs. Gabriel stared at them for a moment and raised an eyebrow… Kevin’s hadn’t told him Mallory laid eggs… maybe he didn’t know? He shrugged. He would just ask Kevin about it when he got home. He reached out and softly ran his fingers over the ducks feathers and softly muttered “Congrats…” to the bird… She seemed to appreciate his words…. Gabe gathered up the last bit of garbage in the hallways and placed all the bags in the kitchen. There was a grand total of Eight bags that had been filled… he hadn’t realized how much time had passed as he lightly tidied up the messy townhouse… Gabe glanced over towards the clock and raise an eyebrow. It was 6:10 now… Kevin would be home soon… he smiled and finished tying off a bag before he shuffled over into the living room, were you could actually see the floor now, and sat down on the couch. Gabe turned on Kevin’s old TV and flipped through the channels till he came across the history channel. Gabe decided he would watch that until Kevin got home… and so, he waited.
Kevin sighed, coming home.. he saw Gabes car in the drveway and paused… he hadn’t expected gabe to come over… so… why was he here..? he pulled his car up beside his partners, and got out, closing the door behind him. he had his work coat over his shoulder, and proceeded up to the front door. “h-hello?” he called out.. freezing when he noticed how… tidy it had looked. he set his coat down on the chair by the door.. “G-Gabe…?” he called out.. that shame from letting the other see his messy place washed over him again.. it gripped through him. this was why he never had people over. never wanted to have people over.. or even look inside his place. his former friends had called him a hoarder, and other trashy names.. and after a while, he realized they were right..
Gabe perked up at the sound of Kevin’s car pulling into the driveway. He quickly lowered the volume on the Tv and glanced out towards the entrance hallway. His nerves were lightly acting up as he sat there, waiting for Kevin to enter the house. He hoped he wasn’t going to upset Kevin by how he had tidied up the place a bit… he really hoped Kevin didn’t mind too much… he was just trying to help Kevin out, after all…
Gabe heard the keys jangling outside the door, as Kevin unlocked the door and stepped into the house. As Kevin called out into the house, Gabe’s lips couldn’t help but pull into a soft little smile… God how he loved hearing Kevin’s voice… it was a voice he loved hearing every day… it made him feel all warm and giddy inside… “I’m in here!” He called out in reply to the man from the living room. Mallory seemed to of been alerted by the sound of Kevin coming in, and she came wattling down the hall, making her various duck noises.
Kevin sighed when he heard Gabe call out to him.. “Oh-uh.. h-hey..” he spoke up, coming forward to carefully pick up Mallory.. she certainly seemed far lighter than she had been a few weeks ago. He still found it weird.. though he never went through her little nest area.. to him that was her private space and he wasn’t about to intrude, unless he needed to.. for cleaning and whatnot. He brought her into the livingroom with them and placed her on the sofa before timidly hugging Gabe.
Gabriel affectionately nuzzled into Kevin as the man hugged him. The younger man leaned in and pressed his soft lips to Kevin’s for a nice, sweet little kiss, before he broke it. “Um… sorry about showing up at your house so early and unannounced… but uh… after you came over a couple days ago or so to surprise me at home, I thought i’d just return the favor and bring you some breakfast after working your shift…” he said as he slowly moved one of his hands up Kevin’s back and up thought his hair, combing his fingers though the blond’s hair slowly, and gently. “I uh… hope you like Egg McMuffins from McDonalds… it was the only place around here that was open at 5 in the morning…”
he smiled.. albeit a bit weakly. “heh… w-well.. i mean.. you don’t have to.. y-you know that, right?” he asked quietly,. he was still ashamed Gabe had to come in and see his awful mess. “but uh… thanks hun..” he said softly. “i haven’t had egg mcmuffins in a while.” he smiled a bit and returned the kiss. he paused, seeing Mallory waddle past them again and back to her closet nest. “i’m uhm… glad you’re here though..” he said softly, tucking his face into Gabes shoulder, sighing softly.
“Mmm… I’m glad I am too…” he said softly as he ran his fingers though Kevin’s hair and happily leaned into the man. He sat there quietly, just enjoying being with Kevin and listening to his slow, calm breathing… He watched Mallory wattle back to her nest, he little tail wiggling as she walked and he smiled…That’s when he remember about the whole thing he had discovered in Mallory’s closet while he had been cleaning up the messy house. “hey uh, you didn’t tell me Mallory laid eggs… I saw them in her nest in that closet while I was kinda picking up things around here…”
he paused and looked to Gabe, an absolutely stunned look on his face. “wait- really?” he asked, looking back to her, seeing her little tail disappear behind the door. he frowned a bit and looked back to Gabe. “i thought- she couldn’t…” he said softly, before a smile tugged on his lips. he was cluelless on how to take care of eggs, never mind ducklings! but the first thing he would need was to gt a lamp to help Mallory keep the nest warm… or at least bring over her heating pad… “uh- i don’t know.. how the hell i…. uh… when did she….” he slid past Gabe to kneel down into Mallorys little closet, looking at the bird. “how did you…. uh- pump out eggs…?” he asked, reachng a hand over to carefully tussle her feathers. now that he did this, he couldfeel the lumps underneath. “jeeze-”
Gabe raised his eyebrows in surprise at finding out that Kevin had no idea that Mallory had laid eggs. “You didn’t know..?” he asked softly as Kevin made his way over to the closet were the nest was. Gabe quickly joined him over by the closet and smiled. “She must’ve laid them when you were at work or something….” he said as he looked down at the bird. “You’re going to have a bunch of ducklings running around here once those eggs hatch… “ He said, kneeling down, next to Kevin to reach out and softly stroke Mallory’s feathers. She shut her eyes, seeming to like being pet by the two men. “but maybe you should try and take her and the eggs to a vet or something… or see if the vet can come here to check her and the eggs out.. just to make sure mallory is all healthy and so are the eggs…” he suggested. Back on his Grandparents farm he had witnessed baby ducks hatching, quite a few times… it was really a cool thing to watch.. though one needed to be carful to stay out of sight of the baby’s or they might Imprint on you.

He suggested that Gabe shuffled through his old cassette tapes and put one in since his radio had a weak signal, and of course all the cassette tapes he owned were all from the old days, mixes of 50′s, 60′s and 70′s music. Others were classical or 80′s heavy metal bands. Richard clearly had a variety of tastes.
When they finally reached Richard’s home, the older man pulled into his garage, turning off the car and stepping out to he could close the big shutter behind them. Clearly Richard didn’t own a automatic garage door. The room was pitch black for just a moment before Richard flipped the light switch, the lights flickering on as the older man walked over towards the door the led into the house. He opened it up and allowed Gabe to walk in first, reminding the boy to remove his shoes before walking in the rest of the way. Of course the door led right into the kitchen. “So, what are you hungry for, besides me?” The older man said in a teasing tone, giving Gabe a pat on the back before making his way to the fridge.
Gabe shuffled though the cassette tapes till he came across one that he thought he might enjoy. Though he really didn’t have much of a music preference, His grandparents listened to a lot of older music when he used to do work around their place. Since his grandparents didn’t really care for the more recent music, more often than not they would have the radio station set to the channel that played 50 and 60’s music. Gabe never complained. He grew fond of it and listening to that music reminded him of the wonderful summers he spent out helping with his grandparents. So he popped in one of the cassette tapes that consisted of a variety of 50’s music into the player… Eventually a song that Gabriel actually recognized came on. It took all of Gabe’s willpower not to hum along with the catchy tune, so instead he tapped his foot to the beat and bit his lip. Listening to music definitely helped calm his nerves since it gave him something else to think about.
Once at the house, Gabe kicked his shoes off like Richard instructed and walked inside. It had been forever since Gabe had been over to Richard’s house, but yet it all remained the same as Gabe remembered it, aside from maybe a few things being moved around.
The first thing that caught his eye was the little white tail that was swishing back and forth from a chair that had been pushed in under a table. He could only guess that that was Laura all nice and curled up in the kitchen chair. He smiled just a bit. It was nice to see she was still around…
When Richard spoke up and patted him on the back, the young mans face became warm with embarrassment again at that last little remark. He was going to say he wasn’t hungry for Richard at all… but that would of been a lie…. so he bit his tongue for that and did his best to play it off like he hadn’t noticed Richards little teasing comment… though anyone could tell he had gotten flustered because of how blushy he had become in a matter of seconds.
“U-um… well I’m really up for anything…… but uh…. maybe we could do something a bit easier… I don’t want to burden you with having to cook something extravagant like uh… a steak or anything like that… maybe we could have soup or pasta or something along those lines… i-if you’d like…”
He caught a glimpse at the young man’s blazing cheeks that curled a smile at the corner of his lips, mentally admitting that he did miss seeing Gabe so flustered and shy. It did lighten his heart a little, even as the young man tried to shake off the comment and tried to sound as calm as possible, failing completely while doing so. Richard wanted to just tussle the boy’s hair and kiss his red cheeks. But, dinner first.
“Please, it’s been so long since I’ve made dinner for anyone, so I would like do to something extravagant for you. Shame I didn’t pull any meat out of the freezer, so I will have no choice but make something simple tonight.” Shuffling around in the fridge, Richard pulled out a couple of ingredients, looking like a small carton of heavy cream and a cube of butter, both looked like they haven’t been opened yet. “Hmm…I could make some Alfredo and steam veggies. It’s not too hardy of a dish, but it’ll do.”
“Oh uh, that sounds like it would be good… I’ll definitely eat some good Alfredo and steamed Vegetables.” He said as he crossed the kitchen to go over to the kitchen table. Gabe’s blush lightened up as they progressed into talk about dinner, which was a relief for him… not that he didn’t like being flustered by Richard or anything, he just didn’t want to screw anything up between him and Richard because he could get so shy and blushy over comments like what Richard made…
He pulled a chair out, (not the one Laura was in), and Gabe quietly took a seat over at the table. Once settled down into the chair, Laura did seem to take an interest in him. She crawled over from her chair into Gabriel’s lap, purring softly and and rubbing her face against the young man’s stomach, rather needy of attention from the boy. When he didn’t pet her at first and just kinda stared down at her, she gave a soft meow, which of course indicated that she wanted Gabe’s attention.
Gabe couldn’t help himself but to smile softly, “Hey there you…” he said softly as he gently pet the cat. It’s fur was still soft, almost like a kittens, underneath Gabe’s fingertips. Her pointy triangular ears were alert for any unusual sounds and her little pink nose would twitch every once in a while. The cats tiny cheeks were completely covered with long white whiskers, though the whiskers were dropping from age. Laura closed her eyes and purred happily as Gabe scratched behind her ears. She seemed to lean into his every touch. It had been a really long time since he had last seen that sweet albino kitty… but she always did seem to like Gabriel to some degree. As Gabe continued to pet the cat, he looked up at Richard who was gathering ingredients and stuff to make their food.
“Um.. if you’d like me to help you make dinner, i can help out… I’m not the worlds best cook but uh.. I can always help out.” He offered. He felt just a wee bit awkward, just sitting there, watching the older man cook up their dinner.. he felt like it would be the polite thing to do to offer to help out if the other would allow him too… It was his idea for the little get together after all~
The older fellow seemed to instantly get to work as soon as Gabe voiced his approval of the meal, placing the cream and butter on the countertop as he opened one of the cupboards and pulled out the linguini noodles. This man wasn’t wasting a second, already had a pot of boiling water and adding some salt onto to before mixing in the alfredo sauce.
He managed to catch a glance of Gabe over towards the table, pausing his preparations to watch the young man start showing affection towards the older feline, giving a warm smile when Laura gave a soft sound for attention before Gabe surrendered and mused his fingers along the white cat’s fur. It has been a while since Laura had other company to spoil her beside Richard.
He didn’t star long as he went back to work, pulling some veggie from the fridge and grabbed up a cutting board. At this time Gabe spoke up with his offer, wanting to do something besides sit back and watch Richard do all the work. “Well…If you insist, you can cut these up for me.” Saying this, Richard turned to face Gabe as he held the handle of the knife over towards the younger fellow to take, followed by a little wink.
“Y-yeah, Alright…” he said with a nod before he tucked his hand carefully under Laura’s belly to carefully set her back down in the chair she and been previously lounging in. She seemed to be disappointed Gabe wasn’t giving her attention anymore, but she just curled up and went on to start to clean herself in the chair. She didn’t seem too upset by the lack of attention she was receiving from him… Gabe stood up and took the knife from Richard’s hands, “Thanks.” he said softly. Before he got to work at chopping up the stuff, Gabe shuffled over to the sink to wash his hands. Gabe rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and quickly rinsed off his hands. One could see the young catholics arm that had a myriad of scars that littered the skin. He hadn’t wrapped them that day since most his more recent stuff was more healed up and also since he was wearing a long sleeve shirt, wearing bandages underneath it could be kinda a pain since the wrapped part would get all hot and sweaty. He just didn’t want to have to make a big fuss about his bandages and having to keep adjusting them, so he had decided to leave the wrap’s at home and just wear a long sleeve shirt to hide them. He took a small glances down towards the white scars and took a deep breath before forcing his eyes away from them. Light guilt from what he had suggested earlier was stirring up inside for him, but he was doing his gosh darn hardest to repress it and ignore the crappy feelings. Gabe finished up washing off his hands and shuffled over to the cutting board. He definitely wasn’t a pro at cooking like some would say Richard was, but Gabe definitely tried… besides, cutting up vegetables was easy. He took up the knife and got to work cutting up the veggie’s.
Almost instantly when Gabe grabbed the knife from Richard’s hands, the older man went back to work, checking the water, breaking the noodles in half and placing them into the boiling water before returning his attention back to the sauce. Once Gabe was finished chopping up the veggies, Richard went about getting the pan ready and heated up before cooking the vegetables as well, placing a lid so they had a little bit of steam cooking to them as well before returning his full attention towards his guest. “Well, we’ve got a little bit of time, aside from the occasional stirring. How about something to drink while we wait?” The older man leaned himself up against the countertop to ease himself a little bit, his eyes looking over the younger man and his current physical health. He had to admit that Gabe was looking healthier, not as thin or pale, though the dark rings under his eyes never faded away. Must have been a genetic trait. Those arms though… Despite there was no longer any fresh cuts along Gabe’s arms, Richard still frowned a little upon seeing the cuts before Gabe pulled his sleeves down to hide them in shame.
Gabriel smiled when Richard suggest they get something to drink "Sure that sounds fine to me," he said as he relaxed with Richard over by the counter. He was glad the other wanted to spend time with him like this. Gabe watched as Laura also seemed to take notice of the two men taking a rest from cooking and she hopped down from her chair and lazily walked right to Gabriel, rubbing herself against his and Richard's legs, purring softly trying to get one of the mens attention. Gabe smiled again. “She’s really affectionate isn’t she…” he said before he bent down a bit to again, briefly muse his fingers though her soft hair, who continued to purr happily. Once done petting the old feline, who seemed to be rather pleased with how much attention she was getting from Gabe, he leaned back up and glanced over towards Richard. It didn’t slip his attention that Richard's eyes were looking down his body and stopping at his arms. Gabriel blushed in shame remembering he didn't pull his sleeves down making his healed cuts seen by all. He pulled down his sleeves shyly trying to hide what had already been seen. Gabriel bit his lip a bit in thought before giving Richard a weak smile "U-Uh, what did you have in mind for a drink?" He asked as he kept ahold hold of his now clothed arm.

He grew fond of it and listening to that music reminded him of the wonderful summers he spent out helping with his grandparents. So he popped in one of the cassette tapes that consisted of a variety of 50’s music into the player… Eventually a song that Gabriel actually recognized came on. It took all of Gabe’s willpower not to hum along with the catchy tune, so instead he tapped his foot to the beat and bit his lip. Listening to music definitely helped calm his nerves since it gave him something else to think about.
Once at the house, Gabe kicked his shoes off like Richard instructed and walked inside. It had been forever since Gabe had been over to Richard’s house, but yet it all remained the same as Gabe remembered it, aside from maybe a few things being moved around.
The first thing that caught his eye was the little white tail that was swishing back and forth from a chair that had been pushed in under a table. He could only guess that that was Laura all nice and curled up in the kitchen chair. He smiled just a bit. It was nice to see she was still around…
When Richard spoke up and patted him on the back, the young mans face became warm with embarrassment again at that last little remark. He was going to say he wasn’t hungry for Richard at all… but that would of been a lie…. so he bit his tongue for that and did his best to play it off like he hadn’t noticed Richards little teasing comment… though anyone could tell he had gotten flustered because of how blushy he had become in a matter of seconds.
“U-um… well I’m really up for anything…… but uh…. maybe we could do something a bit easier… I don’t want to burden you with having to cook something extravagant like uh… a steak or anything like that… maybe we could have soup or pasta or something along those lines… i-if you’d like…”
He caught a glimpse at the young man’s blazing cheeks that curled a smile at the corner of his lips, mentally admitting that he did miss seeing Gabe so flustered and shy. It did lighten his heart a little, even as the young man tried to shake off the comment and tried to sound as calm as possible, failing completely while doing so. Richard wanted to just tussle the boy’s hair and kiss his red cheeks. But, dinner first.
“Please, it’s been so long since I’ve made dinner for anyone, so I would like do to something extravagant for you. Shame I didn’t pull any meat out of the freezer, so I will have no choice but make something simple tonight.” Shuffling around in the fridge, Richard pulled out a couple of ingredients, looking like a small carton of heavy cream and a cube of butter, both looked like they haven’t been opened yet. “Hmm…I could make some Alfredo and steam veggies. It’s not too hardy of a dish, but it’ll do.”
“Oh uh, that sounds like it would be good… I’ll definitely eat some good Alfredo and steamed Vegetables.” He said as he crossed the kitchen to go over to the kitchen table. Gabe’s blush lightened up as they progressed into talk about dinner, which was a relief for him… not that he didn’t like being flustered by Richard or anything, he just didn’t want to screw anything up between him and Richard because he could get so shy and blushy over comments like what Richard made…
He pulled a chair out, (not the one Laura was in), and Gabe quietly took a seat over at the table. Once settled down into the chair, Laura did seem to take an interest in him. She crawled over from her chair into Gabriel’s lap, purring softly and and rubbing her face against the young man’s stomach, rather needy of attention from the boy. When he didn’t pet her at first and just kinda stared down at her, she gave a soft meow, which of course indicated that she wanted Gabe’s attention.
Gabe couldn’t help himself but to smile softly, “Hey there you…” he said softly as he gently pet the cat. It’s fur was still soft, almost like a kittens, underneath Gabe’s fingertips. Her pointy triangular ears were alert for any unusual sounds and her little pink nose would twitch every once in a while. The cats tiny cheeks were completely covered with long white whiskers, though the whiskers were dropping from age. Laura closed her eyes and purred happily as Gabe scratched behind her ears. She seemed to lean into his every touch. It had been a really long time since he had last seen that sweet albino kitty… but she always did seem to like Gabriel to some degree. As Gabe continued to pet the cat, he looked up at Richard who was gathering ingredients and stuff to make their food.
“Um.. if you’d like me to help you make dinner, i can help out… I’m not the worlds best cook but uh.. I can always help out.” He offered. He felt just a wee bit awkward, just sitting there, watching the older man cook up their dinner.. he felt like it would be the polite thing to do to offer to help out if the other would allow him too… It was his idea for the little get together after all~
The older fellow seemed to instantly get to work as soon as Gabe voiced his approval of the meal, placing the cream and butter on the countertop as he opened one of the cupboards and pulled out the linguini noodles. This man wasn’t wasting a second, already had a pot of boiling water and adding some salt onto to before mixing in the alfredo sauce.
He managed to catch a glance of Gabe over towards the table, pausing his preparations to watch the young man start showing affection towards the older feline, giving a warm smile when Laura gave a soft sound for attention before Gabe surrendered and mused his fingers along the white cat’s fur. It has been a while since Laura had other company to spoil her beside Richard.
He didn’t star long as he went back to work, pulling some veggie from the fridge and grabbed up a cutting board. At this time Gabe spoke up with his offer, wanting to do something besides sit back and watch Richard do all the work. “Well…If you insist, you can cut these up for me.” Saying this, Richard turned to face Gabe as he held the handle of the knife over towards the younger fellow to take, followed by a little wink.
“Y-yeah, Alright…” he said with a nod before he tucked his hand carefully under Laura’s belly to carefully set her back down in the chair she and been previously lounging in. She seemed to be disappointed Gabe wasn’t giving her attention anymore, but she just curled up and went on to start to clean herself in the chair. She didn’t seem too upset by the lack of attention she was receiving from him… Gabe stood up and took the knife from Richard’s hands, “Thanks.” he said softly. Before he got to work at chopping up the stuff, Gabe shuffled over to the sink to wash his hands. Gabe rolled up the sleeves of his shirt and quickly rinsed off his hands. One could see the young catholics arm that had a myriad of scars that littered the skin. He hadn’t wrapped them that day since most his more recent stuff was more healed up and also since he was wearing a long sleeve shirt, wearing bandages underneath it could be kinda a pain since the wrapped part would get all hot and sweaty. He just didn’t want to have to make a big fuss about his bandages and having to keep adjusting them, so he had decided to leave the wrap’s at home and just wear a long sleeve shirt to hide them. He took a small glances down towards the white scars and took a deep breath before forcing his eyes away from them. Light guilt from what he had suggested earlier was stirring up inside for him, but he was doing his gosh darn hardest to repress it and ignore the crappy feelings. Gabe finished up washing off his hands and shuffled over to the cutting board. He definitely wasn’t a pro at cooking like some would say Richard was, but Gabe definitely tried… besides, cutting up vegetables was easy. He took up the knife and got to work cutting up the veggie’s.
Mending the damage
The drive over to his place wasn’t as silently awkward, figuring Gabe needed a distraction from earlier. He suggested that Gabe shuffled through his old cassette tapes and put one in since his radio had a weak signal, and of course all the cassette tapes he owned were all from the old days, mixes of 50′s, 60′s and 70′s music. Others were classical or 80′s heavy metal bands. Richard clearly had a variety of tastes.
When they finally reached Richard’s home, the older man pulled into his garage, turning off the car and stepping out to he could close the big shutter behind them. Clearly Richard didn’t own a automatic garage door. The room was pitch black for just a moment before Richard flipped the light switch, the lights flickering on as the older man walked over towards the door the led into the house. He opened it up and allowed Gabe to walk in first, reminding the boy to remove his shoes before walking in the rest of the way. Of course the door led right into the kitchen. “So, what are you hungry for, besides me?” The older man said in a teasing tone, giving Gabe a pat on the back before making his way to the fridge.

It hadn’t been long since Bryan had killed Cathy, not long since Gabe found out and instantly hated him for what he did regardless of if he didn’t mean it or not which he didn’t since Bryan never dreamed of hurting anyone… except for that one dream he had a while ago which he hated.. Bryan gulped as he knew Gabe had to come back home, he was surprised that Gabe hadn’t left to go somewhere else.. live with someone else while he waited to get his own place.
He didn’t blame Gabe for hating him, Gabe had every right to hate him.. he glanced to the door as Gabe came in. He didn’t say anything. He knew Gabe wouldn’t speak to him so he didn’t say a word. He just shifted his attention back to the TV.

Gabriel walked into the house quietly. He used to not dread going home from work… he used to look forward to being able to spending time with Bryan, his best friend, and talk about random thing… now he just.. he couldn’t bring himself to even look at bryan. Let alone be in the same room as him. any time bryan would enter the same room as him, gabe quickly fled to a different one, completely avoiding conversation. Secretly, Gabe missed the old bryan… he missed the man that was there to comfort him when he was sad, and the guy who would play video games with him till 4 AM, he even missed how they would sit on the roof of the apartment complex they lived in and just look up at the stars together, quietly talking about life together… he missed all of that… but because of what bryan did, gabe just couldn’t stand looking at him anymore…. He knew bryan would be aware of him being home now… but he didn’t call out to him to announce his presence to the other man. Gabe quietly walked into the kitchen to go and grabs himself something to eat since he was hungry. He said not a word as he passed by the living room entrance and also by Bryan…. he didn’t even look slightly in the others direction…

It was a chilly for a night in June. The sky was overcast, and the moon was unable to reach it’s beams though the clouds that shrouded it from view, making for a rather darker night down below the darkened clouds. Only the lights of the occasional street light and the headlights to Gabe’s car seemed to be the only sources of lights that night… Gabe left his apartment around 5 in the morning… not like he had been sleeping or anything, he had been up all night and had been playing street fighter with Bryan the entire time. (Which, he in fact, kicked Bryan’s ass at every round). Gabe stepped out of his car into the cool air of the early morning. There was no sign of the sun rising yet… but he knew it usually didn’t rise for at least a hour or two. Gabe he quickly snatched up a the brown paper bag, decorate with advertisements and shuffled up the drive way and up to the door of the house that was owned by his beloved. Gabe had stopped by a McDonalds and had grabbed Kevin something to eat for after work. He wasn’t sure if the guy liked Egg McMuffins or not… but if he didn’t he would just let the guy have the pancakes he had gotten for himself.. He quickly unlocked the door with the spare key Kevin had given him, stepped into the house, then stored the key in his pocket as he closed the door behind him. Not even a minute later after flipping on the lights, he heard Mallory walk out of the bathroom and to him quacking as she walked, her little tail wiggling as she made her various duck noises. Gabriel smiled kneeling petting her gently as she came right up to him, “Hey Mallory, nice to see you again” he greeted only to gain a loud quack back. Gabriel chuckled giving her a soft pat before standing up. Gabe looked around. He was originally just going to wait here until Kevin got home to greet him, but as his eyes moved over the messy layout of the house, an idea came to they young man’s mind.. He made his way to the kitchen, set the bag of breakfast on the counter and grabbed a trash bag to begin his work. He started cleaning up the random cans and trash that littered the floor hoping to pick them up so that he didn’t trip on anything… and also do a small favor for Kevin.. he really wasn’t cleaning all that much but things like empty pop bottles and empty potato chip bags got tossed away in to his rubbish bag. He managed to get the kitchen rather decently cleaned up… though it did take more than one garbage bag to do so… . It was probably the cleanest room in the townhouse now. He went to the hallway to pick up some random cans and knelt down only to get a very big surprise as he gazed into the hall closet. He found a makeshift-nest made of random clothes and some other things with a small clutch of eggs in it . Mallory waddled up beside him quacking as she went to lay on the eggs. Gabriel stared at them for a moment and raised an eyebrow… Kevin’s hadn’t told him Mallory laid eggs… maybe he didn’t know? He shrugged. He would just ask Kevin about it when he got home. He reached out and softly ran his fingers over the ducks feathers and softly muttered “Congrats…” to the bird… She seemed to appreciate his words…. Gabe gathered up the last bit of garbage in the hallways and placed all the bags in the kitchen. There was a grand total of Eight bags that had been filled… he hadn’t realized how much time had passed as he lightly tidied up the messy townhouse… Gabe glanced over towards the clock and raise an eyebrow. It was 6:10 now… Kevin would be home soon… he smiled and finished tying off a bag before he shuffled over into the living room, were you could actually see the floor now, and sat down on the couch. Gabe turned on Kevin’s old TV and flipped through the channels till he came across the history channel. Gabe decided he would watch that until Kevin got home… and so, he waited.
Kevin sighed, coming home.. he saw Gabes car in the drveway and paused… he hadn’t expected gabe to come over… so… why was he here..? he pulled his car up beside his partners, and got out, closing the door behind him. he had his work coat over his shoulder, and proceeded up to the front door. “h-hello?” he called out.. freezing when he noticed how… tidy it had looked. he set his coat down on the chair by the door.. “G-Gabe…?” he called out.. that shame from letting the other see his messy place washed over him again.. it gripped through him. this was why he never had people over. never wanted to have people over.. or even look inside his place. his former friends had called him a hoarder, and other trashy names.. and after a while, he realized they were right..
Gabe perked up at the sound of Kevin’s car pulling into the driveway. He quickly lowered the volume on the Tv and glanced out towards the entrance hallway. His nerves were lightly acting up as he sat there, waiting for Kevin to enter the house. He hoped he wasn’t going to upset Kevin by how he had tidied up the place a bit… he really hoped Kevin didn’t mind too much… he was just trying to help Kevin out, after all…
Gabe heard the keys jangling outside the door, as Kevin unlocked the door and stepped into the house. As Kevin called out into the house, Gabe’s lips couldn’t help but pull into a soft little smile… God how he loved hearing Kevin’s voice… it was a voice he loved hearing every day… it made him feel all warm and giddy inside… “I’m in here!” He called out in reply to the man from the living room. Mallory seemed to of been alerted by the sound of Kevin coming in, and she came wattling down the hall, making her various duck noises.
Kevin sighed when he heard Gabe call out to him.. “Oh-uh.. h-hey..” he spoke up, coming forward to carefully pick up Mallory.. she certainly seemed far lighter than she had been a few weeks ago. He still found it weird.. though he never went through her little nest area.. to him that was her private space and he wasn’t about to intrude, unless he needed to.. for cleaning and whatnot. He brought her into the livingroom with them and placed her on the sofa before timidly hugging Gabe.
Gabriel affectionately nuzzled into Kevin as the man hugged him. The younger man leaned in and pressed his soft lips to Kevin’s for a nice, sweet little kiss, before he broke it. “Um… sorry about showing up at your house so early and unannounced… but uh… after you came over a couple days ago or so to surprise me at home, I thought i’d just return the favor and bring you some breakfast after working your shift…” he said as he slowly moved one of his hands up Kevin’s back and up thought his hair, combing his fingers though the blond’s hair slowly, and gently. “I uh… hope you like Egg McMuffins from McDonalds… it was the only place around here that was open at 5 in the morning…”
he smiled.. albeit a bit weakly. “heh… w-well.. i mean.. you don’t have to.. y-you know that, right?” he asked quietly,. he was still ashamed Gabe had to come in and see his awful mess. “but uh… thanks hun..” he said softly. “i haven’t had egg mcmuffins in a while.” he smiled a bit and returned the kiss. he paused, seeing Mallory waddle past them again and back to her closet nest. “i’m uhm… glad you’re here though..” he said softly, tucking his face into Gabes shoulder, sighing softly.
“Mmm… I’m glad I am too…” he said softly as he ran his fingers though Kevin’s hair and happily leaned into the man. He sat there quietly, just enjoying being with Kevin and listening to his slow, calm breathing… He watched Mallory wattle back to her nest, he little tail wiggling as she walked and he smiled...That’s when he remember about the whole thing he had discovered in Mallory’s closet while he had been cleaning up the messy house. “hey uh, you didn’t tell me Mallory laid eggs… I saw them in her nest in that closet while I was kinda picking up things around here...”
