What an EPIC trip ! It all felt like a dream
The day finally came, my first trip to South America, you can imagine the excitement. The land of unknown, it felt like I was a kid again waiting to open my Christmas gift.
I landed in Sao Paulo, my original plan was to stop by Sao Paulo to meet my CS friend Carol for one day then head to rest of the places, However things never goes according to plan, that’s why I stop planning things. Long story short, I ended up getting into Salvador directly from Sao Paulo to join the spirit of Carnaval. Getting into Salvador was was quiet a journey. The airport was poorly designed for tourists, no sign of where everything goes ( at least not in English). Being an experienced traveler, sometimes you need to use your “six sense”. Took a bus to my hostel, ended up missing the bus stop by half hour. Lucky I wasn’t the only one, travelers helped each other out. Somehow we found back to the area of my hostel. I was very glad to find my friend Maarit who I am supposed to meet in Salvador. I AM NO LONGER LOST !!!
Salvador itself was an experience of a life time, I was very shocked with culture, people, Carnaval ( excuse my ignorance, I definitely didn’t do my homework before I come here) In my opinion, Carnaval in Salvador is something you should experience once in your life time and I’m glad I did it.
After 3 days in Salvador, I was done with this place, things getting old and I wanted to leave, once again my plan has changed last minute. I met few cool people (Aaron and Ben) in the hostel, and decided to join them in Rio 2 days earlier. Turned out to be a very good decision on my part.
Rio was great, I was in love with the city, the people and the culture. The moment I arrived I felt alive, I felt the energy and good vibe about the place. The hostel I stayed was very big and 1st day I arrived I went with everyone in the hostel to a boat party. It was fantastic, great weather, great people and dancing facing the Christ & Sugar Loaf was just incredible. I couldn’t ask for more.
My next two days in Rio was definitely the highlight of my trip. I spent wonderful time with Aaron & Ben, we were chasing some party that we had absolutely no idea of where/when and how to get there. It was a very fun night where we constantly got lost and were able to finally find this party. Aaron and I ended up watching sunrise at Copacabana beach until 9AM. That was amazing !
All good parties have to end at some point, after Aaron and Ben left. I started my solo journey in Rio, I went to my first CS experience as a guest in Rio. it was interesting and of course, once again I was getting lost all the time. I believe I truly explored Rio. Thanks to my wonderful host ! Unfortunately I went back to hostel due to difficulties in commute and spent my last few days with people I met at the boat trip when I first arrived Rio.
Then the unexpected happened, I was invited to go a Bloco at Leblon beach area, and ran into a friend that I met in New York few month ago, it was completely random and that just proves ” it’s a small world “. we decided to meet up for my last night at Rio to watch the Carnaval Champion show. I can say I experienced the Carnaval in Rio as well. It is COMPLETELY different from Salvador.
My last stop was Sao Paulo, that’s where I have to take my flight back to US. Fortunately I had chance to meet up with Carol for brief few hours. It was great, she picked me up at the airport, drove me around the city, showed me very local neighborhood, introduced me to her friends. we had a lovely brunch in Sao Paulo. I have to say, I like Sao Paulo a lot.
In Summary, Brazil is amazing
Salvador - Life time experience
Sao Paulo - It’s the people makes the place different (AKA Carol)
