This will be kinda long, but bear with me.
Imagine that you, an orphan foreigner, have a strong Cursed Technique. The Zenin Clan takes you in so you can be married to someone at some point.
But being a foreigner and all, you're not exactly making friends. Well, except for Toji.
You meet Toji as a kid and you two form a friendship. It's mostly quiet. When he hears bullshit by the other members or gets hurt, you patch him up. When he gets punished with being thrown on the pit, you're the only one who is praying for him to come back alive.
Every year, you get a cake for your birthday from one of the wives. You always share your cake with him, even if your birthdays aren't the same.
When you turn 18, instead of a whole cake, you get only a slice. Which you give entirely to him.
Soon, you are informed of your marriage with one of Naobito's sons. Toji is disappointed deep inside, but he also likes to think that having a husband means you'll be protected now. Most husbands talk a lot of shit and are dismissive, but they don't really hurt their wives physically.
He escapes the Clan as soon as you start your official training for marriage.
Ten years pass from this. He meets Mamaguro. Falls in love. Has Megumi. Mamaguro dies.
During the time he was with Mamaguro, he realizes that what he had with you during his time in the Zenin Clan was love, so now that she died... He had been thinking a lot about you.
It's useful in a way, when he understands that Megumi does have a Cursed Technique. *The* pride of the Zenin Clan, no less, the Ten Shadows Technique.
It's a gamble, but maybe he can negotiate with that? There is no way he can raise Megumi on his own and with a proper technique, he has a better chance than he ever had. So he contacts Naobito.
Naobito is obviously thrilled and slips that this is a relief, as his son's first marriage wasn't going well. You kept having miscarriages, so you were now demoted to 'concubine'(basically divorced with a fancy name) and he took a new wife.
Toji immediately sees this as a chance and asks to marry you instead. He rationalizes saying that someone who knows the Zenin rules would be perfect to help him to raise his son, regardless of fertility, to which both Naobito and his son agree.
When he meets you... He is devastated. You're quieter. Scared. Your eyes always low. He hates it.
It's been 10 years, so you don't expect anything from Toji. But now that he has had the time to experience actual feelings, he sees things different and he is slowly returning to you the kindness you offered him in the past.
As the two of you become closer, reclaiming the proximity you used to have, you reveal what truly happened to you.
Your miscarriages were result of violence and not because your body was weak. Your husband, the weak bitch, was frustrated because his father starts to favor Naoya above all sons, because he is the only one who was born with the Projection technique as well. So your husband would take it out on you. Your last pregnancy has been the most 'successful', but... It also ended in the same way, the child died.
Your doctor said that it was very unlikely that you would conceive again, but there was a chance, that's the only reason you were kept within the family instead of a full divorce.
True enough, Toji does get you knocked up with little difficulty once you two sort out your relationship and to nobody's surprise, your daughter, pretty and healthy, inherits your technique: the ability to turn negativeness from people into controllable curses. You never had proper training to be able to use it without the recoil: killing the source of the negativeness. But your daughter is properly trained and becomes a force to be reckoned with.

Pretty sure half of this is not really possible but WHO CARES. We want a Toji coming back for us.
