Some thoughts…

Not looking for advice, but I’ve always wanted to be a successful content creator.

I’ve done multilingual music splicing before on a previous channel. And then I tried streaming during the pandemic but frankly wasn’t disciplined enough to stay on a schedule.

Now, I want to be serious for once. Getting a proper vtuber model (within my salary budget of course), making variety content (video essays, art, creative writing, analysis), and just being consistent.

I’m not sure if this attempt will work out, but I’ll do my best.

feel like there’s overall a push in society to validate “lowbrow” art in a weird way. like the whole phenomenon of booktok defending the right to read trashy romance books (fine) but also wanting it to be seen as on an equal level with actual literature. the push for the oscar’s and other award shows to reward blockbuster movies because obviously how much money a movie makes is directly correlated with its artistic merits. i guess i will go to bat for being a pretentious freak!!!

Vincent Crane: a renowned forensic psychiatrist in 1920s NE USA haunted by the Yellow King; he carries an ancient artifact found by his disappeared mother

Elysio Ashbourne: toreador vampire who was turned when he was only 19 yo due to his already beautiful looks; craves to maintain humanity; born in 19th century NYC, was moved to England by his sire, and he’s now returned to NYC in the 2020s

Jeppe Riis: a street urchin in early 19th century Norway with the ability to see supernatural. His pet dog Nils is actually a psychopomp

Sofía Guerrero: an investigative journalist now stuck in a pitch black apocalyptic event; she searches for the root of this problem while also trying to survive

Controversial opinion (?): I think adaptations of period novels and historical events can absolutely benefit from being made more accessible to a modern audience at times. However, less by making the characters sound more modern or express modern social views and more by doubling down and actually explaining to the audience the social context behind certain events and decisions.

Because it's all good and well to praise Edward Ferrars for sticking by Lucy Steele a million times, but if you don't explain why it would be such a dick move for him to break up with her everyone is going to continue thinking that he should follow his heart or that he's actually being cruel to Lucy by pretending to love her. Both of which would be absolutely true today but which are not very important considerations in their case.

Honestly, this is the one thing I really appreciate about P&P 2005. Charlotte explaining to Elizabeth exactly why she's accepting Collins was really good for someone who isn't familiar with the time period.

Sure it's anachronistic because the characters would know already, but it's better than the alternative which is leaving people confused by the character's motives.
