With AI popping up all over the creative world, a bunch of us decided to show how fun it can be to try and draw something in your own style. Whether youāre scribbling with a pen, painting on a tablet, new to this, or enjoying drawing as a hobby, it's always nice to try something new or challenge yourself.
Everyone used the same reference image. Names in alphabetical order.
1. Original image

Any requests for another drawing?

Anyone else feel the need to share their stance on AI by reblogging the very post you're supposedly rallying against, thus helping it gain even more traction?
Yes, I generated some images using AI. Yes, Iām fully aware itās not real art and that AI will never replace human creativity. Yes, itās a grey area, just like a lot of fan-made content that borrows from someone elseās work. And no, I really donāt feel like hearing the same lectures over and over again... all day long.
Are we going to talk about how drawing characters that arenāt yours is also a little bit of a author's grey area? Or how some fanfics sometimes cross lines when it comes to respect for the characters or even the actors? No?
So before turning me into the collective villain for sharing a few AI-generated images, maybe take a moment to look at your own creative choices and boundaries first. Maybe something you do isn't exactly comfortable for everyone either, but no everyone feels the need to spread it all over the fandom.
Thanks.
No one makes you look like a villain unless you want to think of yourself that way. It's a common understanding Fanmade creativity requires an original thought, time, and human creativity while ai reaps that originality for your own so called creation It isn't a grey area when your creation is simply the hodgepodge of other creativity and your inability to see that and take accountability for that is the reason why people, like you said "feel the need to share their stance on AI, thus helping it gain even more traction" which actually gives more people to understand and internalize for themselves their point of view If you respect and support the creativity of real people then ask/pay them to draw you in any style you want. Or at least try to do it yourself. And if you don't like someone's opinions or art/writing/etc you can just block them, you have all rights to do this. This button is still a free feature for everyone (thanks @tardis-jpeg for links)
I know drawing takes effort and time, but it's better to draw badly and in your own way than to use quick-dopamine ai shit
I'd rather read 1001 badly written stories than a single generative AI one.
I love knowing how much time and effort incredible artists (including you in this!!) put into their work, that's what makes it special. That's what makes it unique and worthwhile and ART.
It's why I know I'm not amazing, but I keep trying. Because the process is what makes the art. Art isn't the finished product. It's the time, the creativity, the love for it that goes into it. That's what makes it truly beautiful
Uh. Thanks for sharing your opinion, and if it offended you, Iām sorryā¦
Anyway, I donāt think thereās anything wrong with using AI, as long as itās stated that itās AI-generated. Using images or texts and claiming them as your own is, of course, very low. And I definitely donāt support that!
That said, Iām not going to pretend to be some moral authority here. Donāt like it? I understand and respect that. Personally, I enjoy exploring what AI can do these days. Thatās all it means.
If the majority of the audience has a problem with it and it seriously offends all followers, Iāll delete it.
Itās interesting that you refer to the pushback against AI-generated art as merely an opinion. The majority consensus among artists is to not feed or encourage AI art, and this has been a major topic of discussion since 2020, when these models were first introduced. I remember doing my due diligenceāresearching, and reading articles written by artists. Thereās more harm beneath the surface than you might think.
Every image thatās uploaded doesnāt just train the modelāit actively asks the model to define, reduce, and remodel someone elseās entire lifeās work and artistic style for your own benefit.
Now that these styles have been created (along with millions of others from various fandoms), not only will Hayao Miyazaki never see a penny for his life's work being used, but the question becomes: who does get credited for this media?
Certainly not you. Not Miyazaki. Not the AIāwhich isnāt a living being and is incapable of original thought. And yet, it sounds like you want to credit the AI in your post.
To this day, no one has produced a signature style as distinct and significant as the Ghibli aesthetic, except Miyazaki himself. His work is so recognizable that it doesnāt even require a signatureāanyone can look at it and know itās his and his studioās. So, should we credit the studio for all the data the model was fed in order to create this?
This isnāt just some opinion floating around among artists in this fandom or on this platform. Itās a well-documented and ongoing issue that has been circulating within the art community for years. It represents the potential erasure of human creativity under capitalistic modelsābecause at the end of the day, these AI art generators profit from user interaction and even mentions on posts.
What really irks me is that you offered an apology, then immediately followed it with reasons why you shouldnāt have to apologize. Iād recommend doing some actual research (hell, even ask AI why AI art is considered problematic), and forming a well-rounded, thoughtful opinion. Just like the so-called "art," all the information you need is still just one click away.
Whilst AI companies claim to be taking us towards the future, generative AI means less human connection and the widespread impoverishment of
