It’d had been about six months since the incident with her brother, and Dallas wasn’t over it yet but she found a way to function in the real world instead of hiding out. She was getting better and it showed. Dallas had been hanging with Logan a lot in that time and they grew closer than they had been before. When Logan finally broke it off with Ethan Dallas was there for him and she promised she wouldn’t leave.
She smiled when she knew he still had the bracelet she had made him, not that he needed it now since she was no longer a vampire who could go crazy sometimes. She was still a demon but that was practically harmless.
At school, she spent her time with him and today was no different as she met him at his locker and they walked to history together. “Did you get that term paper done? I’m hearing Mrs. Watson is gonna give some pop quiz today and I’m definitely not ready for it.”
“Nothing to do with this?! You didn’t start thinking you could stand up to me until she came along!” He shouted, taking another step forward. “No. We’re not done. You don’t get to decide that.” Ethan grabbed Logan’s arm, pulling him closer.
Dallas stood from the booth, watching intently. If he even hit Logan, she wasn’t staying inside.
“You get rid of Dallas from your life or I’ll do it for you.” He growled, pulling a knife from his pocket. Unfortunately from where Dallas was she couldn’t see he had it in his hand. “When will you learn. What you want doesn’t matter, it’s what I want that matters. And I want us together, I want Dallas gone, and I want you to myself.”
Flinching slightly when Ethan raised his voice at him again, Logan glared up at the other anxiously when he was pulled closer. His lips parted as if he was about to say something, though the sound of a knife shut him up. The brown eyed gaze never left Ethan’s; he did not want to see the knife.
“I.. you can’t de-decide that for me”, he stuttered out softly, desperate for the conversation to be over. “You can’t just— force this relationship to be anything you want! It doesn’t work like that, no matter what the hell you want”, Logan spat at him, though his voice stayed rather quiet either way as he tried to pull his arm back to himself. He really wanted to just get back inside — he had never fought with him like this before.
Logan’s words didn’t help Ethan’s mood any, but that wasn’t his fault. Ethan was literally a controlling piece of shit, not a single word would’ve saved Logan from what happened next as Ethan shoved the knife into Logan’s side, then his stomach.
Dallas watched as it played out in slow motion, all she saw was red as she darted outside, tossing Ethan back and carefully setting Logan down against the pavement; assessing the wounds. She quickly took her jacket off and applied pressure to them both as good as she could; Jeremy already called the police.
Ethan started walking over to them, the knife still in his hand. “Let him die. He deserves it.”
“No. If anyone deserves it Ethan, it’s you. Now back off before I do something we both regret…” Dallas snarled, it wasn’t easy keeping herself under control, especially when someone she cared for was practically dying in front of her. That burning rage to rip Ethan’s head off was there, just one more remark and she wouldn’t be human for long.
“Logan? Hey, you hang in there. Don’t you die on me.” Jeremy ran out as the police got there, an ambulance wasn’t too far behind. “Just stay with me. Please.” Tears welled up in her eyes, watching and unable to do much other than apply pressure.
Two officers handled Ethan, and then helped the EMTs once they arrived. Dallas rode in the ambulance, holding Logan’s hand the whole way there.
Logan waited for his now ex-boyfriend to say something to just let him go back inside. Though instead of getting any words from the other he got an aching pain first in his side, then his lower stomach. Needing something to hold on to, to actually stay balanced and standing, before he knew it he was laying down and staring up Dallas’s eyes.
More pain shot through his body when he felt pressure applied to his stomach. He gritted his teeth, groaning softly when the sound of sirens reached his ears. He couldn’t wrap his mind around what had happened. Even though he saw that Dallas was speaking to him it all felt too far away to reach and even though he really wanted to reply, he could only focus on the pounding of his heart in his chest, though it felt effortless.
As Logan was carried into the ambulance he had multiple people asking him questions to keep him from passing out and he did his best to reply, though he wouldn’t remember a single word he said. Once the ambulance headed for the hospital he was not really aware of anything.
The next thing he remembered was waking up at the hospital.
After Logan was in surgery and got stitched up, Dallas stayed by his side the second she was allowed in the room. Her hands clasped together, leg bouncing in anticipation and waiting for him to wake up. “Hey… Take it easy, he kinda messed you up a little bit.” She moved her chair next to him, smiling softly.
“You feeling any pain at all?” The nurse walked in, smiling at the two of them.
Narrowing his eyes as the bright hospital lights blinded him, Logan quickly recognized Dallas's voice. He tilted his head to her direction, mostly a confused expression on his face. "Mmhm..", the boy mumbled out, his throat dry before he swallowed and cleared it a little.
Logan looked quickly in the direction of the unfamiliar voice. Clear memories came to his memory now, blinking his eyes as he remembered the scenario more clearly. "I dunno.. uhh, maybe a little", he said, shifting slightly in the hospital bed.

“That sounds fine to me.” Dallas gave a soft smile, reading Logan easily she knew he was uncomfortable with Ethan there. But, she wasn’t too worried, he couldn’t do anything to Logan. She’d never allow it.
Ethan kept turning around, catching a glimpse of their hands together and seeing that caused a spark of rage in him. He turned back around and kept to himself.
Dallas watched his every move while trying to concentrate, thankfully Mrs. Watson put the pop quiz to sometime the following week and gave everyone some extra time for their papers. “Now remember, keep your papers on the World War Two era, anything you’d like to write about in that time frame will be accepted. The library has plenty of books on it, feel free to search there. Class is dismissed.”
“Alright, it’s settled then..”, he murmured, letting out a deep sigh and relaxing into his seat, hoping he could just disappear.
Logan did his best to focus on the class from then on, he quite enjoyed history and he was fairly good at it. The last few months had just gone by so fast and he didn’t seem to remember anything that happened longer than two days ago. Gladly they got more time to write their papers, because he really wanted to show his interest and passion towards the subject.
The second the teacher said the class was dismissed, he stood up in a hurry, hitting his knee in the process. That didn’t slow him down though; he picked up his backpack and headed for the classroom’s door as quickly as possible.
Dallas packed up her bag, cringing when she heard Logan hit his knee and trying to keep up with him. As they passed by Ethan said “You better watch yourself.” Following it with a grin, Dallas just glared at him and caught up with Logan in the hallway.
“Hey. He can’t do anything to you. Especially here, you’re safe.” Speaking softly and giving her best reassuring smile. “And besides, it’s lunch, let’s get out of here.” Dallas stopped at her locker, grabbing extra paper for the term paper in history before turning to Logan. “You ready?”
Ethan followed them at a distance, not letting his presence be known. Watching Logan and Dallas together made his blood boil, how could some bitch manage to attempt take what was rightfully his?
The comment that he received when passing by made adrenaline rush in his veins, shivers running through his body. Gladly he wasn’t alone and Dallas’s presence alone calmed him down, though no matter who he was with Ethan frightened him to the core.
“Yeah– yeah.. let’s go get lunch”, Logan nodded, trying to reassure himself of his safety. He stood by her as she took something from her locker, nodding quickly when she asked if he was ready to go.
Already disappearing into his grey hoodie, he pulled the hoodie over his head and stuffed his hands into the front pocket. “Uh, are we walking or–?” He asked when the silence became too much to take. The local pizza place wasn’t too far away from the school to walk but still far enough for it to be logical to drive there.
“We can take my car. Gives us more time to sit there instead of wasting that walking.” Dallas noticed his nervous and anxious ticks, sighing softly. She wanted nothing more than to be rid of Ethan out of Logan’s life so he could actually live it, but that wasn’t her place. And it honestly wasn’t her business, but after everything, they both shared their lives with each other.
After they arrived at the pizza place, Dallas brought in her books, nodding at the waiter. “The usual please?” She smiled to Jeremy, a long time friend. “Sure thing, it’ll be a few minutes longer than usual though, had to make a new batch of dough.”
“That’s fine. Thank you Jeremy.” Dallas smiles to him, giving a small glance to Logan to be sure he was still with her before sitting in a booth at the back. “You doin’ okay?”
“Okay, sounds reasonable”, he agreed, forcing a soft laugh out of him as they walked over to her car.
Once inside, Logan let her make the orders as usually and followed her into the booth, crossing his arms over his stomach and leaning back in his seat. He spaced out for a moment before he heard her speaking again, looking up in confusion for a few seconds.
“Oh- uh, yeah, I’m doing okay”, he quickly said, nodding reassuringly, though he was trying to reassure himself more than her at this point. Logan was trying hard to focus back on the moment, not wanting to float in that misty emptiness that didn’t let him focus on anything for longer than a few seconds at a time.
Furrowing his brows as he collected his thoughts once again, he spoke more like he usually did. “What did you have again after lunch, I forgot–?” He tried to make a conversation so she wouldn’t have to be the only one trying.
“I’ve got my bio class after. Then English, then mechanics and heading on home.” Dallas gave him the rundown, writing down a chart to help him with his history term paper. Jeremy set their pizza down and the drinks, then he went back to running around to keep up with orders.
“Okay so, I’m writing about the war itself, you can do that or write about how it affected people at home. It totally up to you, I wrote down some topics you can go off of to kinda help you with it.” She slid him the paper, getting a slice of pizza after. “You’ve been a little distant lately, are you sure you’re alright?” She hated prying, but she only did it because she cared and was concerned about him.
Ethan pulled up outside, sitting in his car for awhile before walking in and sitting at the ‘breakfast bar’ as they called it, intently watching Logan and Dallas. After they spoke some, he wandered over and quickly sat next to Logan. Dallas balled her fist, staring intently. “What are you doing here Ethan..?” Speaking lowly as to not cause a scene.
“Oh, it’s a public place Dewitt. I’m just here to enjoy some pizza with my boyfriend. You don’t mind do you?” He stole a slice, literally devouring it in one bite before whispering to Logan “you and I need to have lunch alone. Now.”
“No he doesn’t. Leave him alone.” She snapped, trying to keep her cool. “Oh but, he does… But of course, the decision is yours sweetheart…” Ethan put his arm around Logan’s shoulders, keeping his eyes on only Logan.
Logan nodded along, trying to take a mental note of what she said so he wouldn’t have to ask again for the millionth time. He was more than grateful when she helped him with the term paper, giving a soft, thoughtful hum at her idea. “I was thinking about writing about the life in the front line, y'know, not specifically about the war itself but more about what it was like and all that..”, Logan told her, being a little caught off guard when she questioned him again.
“Ugh.. I dunno, honestly I just feel like—”, he cut himself off when he saw who had came in was approaching their table. Ethan sat down next to him and Logan felt as if though he forgot how to function at all. He stayed silent when Dallas and Ethan talked, and he was happily not participating in the conversation at all.
As he felt his unofficial ex-boyfriend’s hot breath against his ear, he flinched ever so slightly. Everything seemed to go by so fast, he had no idea what to do before he felt Ethan’s arm around his shoulder. Logan swallowed and gathered himself.
“I, uh.. could we talk outside- for a, uhm, a moment?” He asked, voice quiet as he stared at the table. He didn’t want to look at Ethan. Though, he knew he couldn’t do this inside with Dallas sitting in the same booth.
Dallas kept her eyes trained on Ethan, but she was aware of Logan’s behavior. “You watch yourself Ethan…” she practically growled out, knowing she couldn’t follow them out but she’d keep an eye on them.
“Don’t make a threat you can’t keep Dewitt.” He spat back, grabbing Logan’s arm and walking outside. “What is there to talk about? You belong to me, you’re my boyfriend, not hers. She’s just.. some homeless puppy that you felt bad for and she’s trying to ruin our relationship. I’ve told you to stop hanging around her, even after she threw me out of the house and you still have her around… Do you never learn?”
His voice raised as he continued until he was yelling at Logan, Dallas sat inside, uneasy as she watched the body language.
Standing up and stumbling after Ethan when he dragged the shorter of the two after him, Logan followed him outside obediently. Before he got a chance to say anything Ethan was already giving him orders and he stood there silently, remembering all the reasons why he was so afraid of him the more he raised his voice. More importantly, he remembered all the reasons why he needed to do this.
“Ethan, I.. I-I”, Logan cleared his throat and looked at the other male, breathing in and out deeply. “I don’t think we should see each other anymore.” He wad surprised he even managed to get it out of his system.
“I-In fact.. I’m, uh.. I think we should break up. I’m breaking up with you, I don’t want to see you anymore.” Logan spoke calmly yet quietly, not knowing how he found the strength to say the words after so long. He stood there then silently, not knowing what would come next but he had finally managed to say the words and stand up for himself.
“You…” Ethan stood there, tounge ties for the first time in his life. “Don’t let what Dallas says influence you… You love me. You couldn’t survive without me..” his expression went from dominant to worried, and then he was just confused. “It’s because of her you’re saying these things. You don’t mean it. You need me.” He huffed, walking a bit closer to Logan.
Dallas wasn’t sure what was up, but she didn’t like how it was going. She also didn’t want to storm out there and interrupt what was going on without an actual reason to do so either. So she sat there, worry emitting from her like a beacon.
“Admit it…” Ethan gritted his teeth. “You. Need. Me.”
Logan shook his dead, trying to stand his ground. "Dallas–! She has absolutely nothing to do with this so don't try to blame this on her!" He raised his voice at Ethan for the second time in his life, eyebrows furrowing slightly when the expression on the other's face changed. All the frustration in him was bubbling, mixing with adrenaline and fear.
The brown eyes of his widened slightly when Ethan approached, and he stumbled back a step. What the other said next still hit him. Oh, how many times he'd heard those words and believed them.
"I-I don't need-- we're not happy, I'm not happy. This has, uh, has gone on for too long.. and I— I'm sorry. I'm sorry. This is it, we're.. done."
Logan's voice had returned to its normal carefulness, though there was newfound determination to it.

"Ethan, I.. I-I", Logan cleared his throat and looked at the other male, breathing in and out deeply. "I don't think we should see each other anymore." He wad surprised he even managed to get it out of his system.
"I-In fact.. I'm, uh.. I think we should break up. I'm breaking up with you, I don't want to see you anymore." Logan spoke calmly yet quietly, not knowing how he found the strength to say the words after so long. He stood there then silently, not knowing what would come next but he had finally managed to say the words and stand up for himself.
