SOCIAL EXPERIMENT TIME !!!     will you write or talk with me if you knew me back then in 2013 and i am a female 16 - 17 minor with a boy name trying to hide my gender because 2013!ren thought it’s better to be masculine since i like writing male muses ?   Y/N and why ???  please be truthful about it ,  i’m not gonna shame you for it lol.

     okay ,  so i really am 21 now ,   my birthday is in 1996.  that i don’t lie about ,  and this is a hypothetical question because back in my day ,  age is not a huge matter as long as you can write and you don’t write explicit shit you know that you shouldn’t be writing.  also there’s not much police here on tumblr since everyone’s just having fun and not judging someone’s writing based on their age ,  but times change because of the laws on internet and creative writing and i am tired.

      before you do  “ minors don’t interact ” stuff  etc. or accuse a minor of purposefully not stating their age probably because of personal and security reasons because this is the internet and they’re not doing it mostly on purpose ,  trust me ,   please read the actual general U.S. federal law here from the legit U.S. Department of Justice about what is considered obscene material that you will literally be jailed for if you are interacting in nsfw with a real person because making nsfw about your fictional characters is part of creative writing ,  part of U.S. first amendment on free speech —– which won’t get you into baby jail.  also ,  here’s a link about child pornography.

      it’s understandable that some of us would want to write with people around our age bracket ,  but some minors do write as legit as old like twenty year old’s or more than that so it’s easy to mistake them as your age ,  but hey ,  just saying you should give them a chance and not treat them like babies especially if they’re borderline on 18.  but of course ,  there are times that you should guide them not to write stuff which is inappropriate for their age if they’re way below 16 ,  like 12 or something.  or just not interact with them at all ,  but please don’t be rude with them.

     i know that some states in america and canada has different laws about this ,  but i just provided the basics here because tumblr can really pass that misinformation about roleplaying with minors that just pushes people to think not to interact with any minor at all to avoid the problem… which is  funny ,  because most of us started writing here as minors.  i’m just saying that you can just not talk with them if that’s your comfort ,  but please don’t alienate them as a whole just because they don’t fit your stereotype of what a minor should be and should be writing.

it’s so discouraging for young writers to see how unwanted they are, either in real life or on the internet. let’s be real, most of the rpc started to write when they were really young — it’s natural, after all, it’s the expression of a talent. tumblr is a beautiful idea, once anyone can publish their stories here, it should be an open and democratic thing. it saddens me to notice how this mentality of treating all minors as one big monolithic special snowflake (as much as i hate this term) group got into tumblr. it saddens me to notice how many people don’t take one’s writing abilities and skills into account, but they do take their ages.

but here is a thing: a minor can write just as well as a mun of age, or even better. here’s a thing most of you don’t know, and that i find important to complete this rant: i’m 17. i’ve been writing on the internet since i was 9, but only started to roleplay on tumblr when i was 13. i feel like coming forward about it can help people like me, who are borderline 18, to have somewhat of a voice. 

i’m not talking about smutting — i don’t smut, it’s in my rules, simply because i found it rather monothone. it’s boring and repetitive. however, i’m always open to discuss my character’s sexual life — because his sexual life is not mine. people can’t be sued because of what their speaker (the ic) does. discussing nsfw themes is important, because sexuality is part of a character !! you can’t just take it away from them and hope the writing to keep being realistic, because it won’t. i give myself the write to talk about HARRY HART, a fictional 55-year-old man, who isn’t in any way a self-insert of myself, hence talking about him isn’t the same as talking about ME. i’m under freedom of speech, because creative writing is art.

i needed to take this off of my chest. these two months omitting who i was truly hurted me — because i noticed how many people wouldn’t even look at me and my writing if they knew who i truly was. that’s it. this post is not a rant about any person that isn’t myself and a way to externalize my feelings. i hope y’all understand it.
