Marketing yourself

Working in film + tv industry, you need to know what your marketing plan is as it basically how you sell yourself to a company. Therefore, the way I market myself is using social media because in this day in age, social media has become a  platform for anyone to sell themselves to a company. Therefore, I create a Facebook page, and within a couple of weeks, I got offers from actors to film some showreel stuff.

This was ideal for me as I want to use social media to sell my production company to gain more work from short film to showreel. It about expresses yourself to the world. I would use #galaxyknigihtproduction as to spread my message and my production company as there is a chance that one person would see this and they would invest into my  production company.

I recently did evaluation i had done from a recent corporate video I did for TMAS. Here are my notes I had for it.

When I was given this brief, I had a different approach I want to do for a corporate video from promoting to a corporate showreel video. Therefore, I was so pleased with this because if my client didn't like one of the ideas, I always had a back-up ready.

I was pleased that I found a company very quickly as I had a chance to work with them for a couple of mouths to make a perfect corporate video for them as I didn't want to rush because I didn't want my work not to look professional. Find a company can be difficult as they can be busy with. Therefore, I was delighted to find a company like TMAS who want to make a video.

Communication between both my client and me went smoothly as we knew each other personally and both understand how important this project is for both of us. From the first email to the last meeting, we always bounce off each other, making sure we were on the right page for this corporate video. Sharon and Gary were so helpful as they allow me to use as much footage as I can, therefore, allowing me to film a much different class. I love working with these guys as they were top professional.

With the work schedule, I was pleasured with the flow from the start to finish as I kept update making sure my corporate video was handed in on time also looking like a top professional standard corporate video. If I could change anything, I would say need to be patient as the sometime thing might go wrong and I don't need to stress out.

I was happy with the layout of my production folder as I kept on updating it most days to make it top standard for my clients. I believe having a high production folder allows me to make a corporate video I would be happy with.

I love working on this corporate video as this project help me improve on all my skills from post-production to pre-production. I had a chance to show off my camera skills with various different shot and also in an edit I had a chance to a video which my client would love. If I had an opportunity to do another corporate video again, I would do it in a heartbeat as in near I would like to be a corporate filmmaker.

With this being my final short film for university I wanted to look at film festivals I can enter because as a young filmmaker I wanted people to see my movie. Looking at the BFI website, they show where and when the next film festivals will be. The reason i should go to film festivals as they are usually used as launch pads for films. The primary reason for submitting your film to a film festival is to have it screened in front of acquisition executives who will ‘discover’ your movie and make you an offer on the spot. With this, I wanted to see which festivals would be similar for my short film.

Developing a short film

Over the last couple of months I have been developing a short film for my final project at university.  With developing a short film, it takes time and effect to create as you want to make sure this project is the best one so far of you have created. After a couple of weeks brainstorming ideas, I finally settle on an idea which I believe to be my best one yet. I began to do some research on my project. Therefore, I can get a better understanding of my story. With my short film is a love story between these two male characters who are fighting together against the system. With this, I began to watch love story from Call me by your name to love Simon to moonlight to Carol, etc. These stories are filled with passion as main characters are a battle with their emotions because they love each other and do no matter what for each other. After watching this film, I began writing my script for my short film, and I call it Body where it is set in the future, where the laws are harsh, and justice is cruel. Two men on the run from law enforcement officers are trapped in the woods. How long can they escape justice, and what is their crime? I finally had my idea ready I was ready to start pre-production for this short film.

Analysis of current job positions, their requirements, and responsibilities

With me finishing university I need to start looking for jobs in the industry as my dream job is becoming a producer for a significant filming company.  As a producer you need to the overall control of every aspect of film production, bring everyone tighter from director to cast, scriptwriter and production team. One of the roles as a producer is to foster an environment in which the creative talents of the cast and crew can flourish. Producers are therefore ultimately accountable for the success of the finished film. A producer will often find the idea, bring together the creative team, secure the financing of the project and then be responsible for delivering the movie or TV programme to the distributor or broadcaster. The producer's role carries on through to the final release or transmission of the project. Look at requirement and responsibilities i believe I would be perfect to be a producer as strongest skills are communication and organizational skills.

Networking

With this being my final year, I need to start thinking about my future and begin to network with other filmmakers to search for a job opportunity. Therefore, I deiced join a couple of pages on Facebook for filmmakers such as Liverpool filmmakers. This is a smart idea for any young filmmaker because it allows you to meet other filmmakers in your local area. I recently commented on a post by local filmmaker call Tom Griffiths as he posts he currently looking to build a crew contact for future projects and he asks if any of from the group would be interested in adding him on Facebook and comment on the post which type of role you would be interested in. Therefore I say I would be a producer and within mins, Tom had replied to my comment with a friend request.   Networking is a key thing is not to contact people; you meet when you need something! Networking is it's about building relationships. When you get someone's card, keep in touch with them, let them know what you're doing and find out what they're doing. Ask for their advice and provide advice too. Build a two-way relationship rather than give a contact with a "hard sell." Ultimately looking to build friendships, not just professional relationships.

Showreel for website

Developing production company website, you should create a showreel for the production company, therefore, to show off to investors what type of videos we created a Galaxy Knight Production. With a showreel, you want to keep it short and sweet as you don't want to bore your client with too much footage.

With a showreel is your resume. It is the video where every ounce of your effect has been put in to show, not only the things you have filmed but the versatility of your editing and being able to show different styles. Showreel has to display the most creative thing you can put together to give the potential client a reason to hire you. I deiced to put my showreel on the front page of my website for galaxy knight production because this is what I wanted the clients to see.

Social media helps business

Social Media has become huge over the last couple of years as it gains more following from around the world. Therefore Business have seen this and use it for their advantage. The reason why I use social media for my website because of it perfect for customer service, and it reaches all ages and demographics. Its social media allows me to share a lot about my website and business. Social Media sites like Facebook and Instagram have become the go-to place for consumers who want to learn more about my business. Facebook and Instagram allow my website to offer the most up-to-date information about anything from services I have to offer from editing showreel and short film. Another reason why social media is helpful for my website is to help me get word this allows me to get exposure on the internet with me getting a chance to talk with people from around the world. Therefore I have created a facebook and Instagram page for Galaxy Knight Productions to get the word out.

Developing website

After weeks on researching about local film production website, I deiced to create my very own website for Galaxy Knight Production. I want to create a website which stands out above the rest because specific film website are dull,boring, simple and outdated therefore I want my website to be fun and more accessible to access with a modern look to it. Also with creating a modern look website, I want to use social media site like Facebook and Instagram for my advantage as in this contemporary era social media site allow us to show off our work and gain a following from it. With the use of  # allowing to find people from around the world.

I want to use Wix website to create my website because  Wix will enable you to create your site just as you want it; also Wix is free to use which is perfect for a student who trying to start a website. Typically, the cost of building and maintaining a site using a professional programmer would cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. The Wix Editor has been designed to be as easy to use as possible so that anyone with a computer can have the opportunity to build their website! Lastly, I think Wix has something for everyone because  Wix has a wide range of templates covering a variety of subjects; therefore, it a great place to design my website. Can't wait to keep on developing my website.

For my first post on Tumblr, i have deiced to look at fellow film production companies website in Liverpool. The reason I chose to look at these companies website is I'm creating my own film production company call Galaxy Knight, and I want to see how they layout their website to see pro and cons on making a film production company website.

The first website I look at was Halfcut, and my first initial opinion was I love the company logo as creative on word half cut as it a line going through the name. It stands out, and it makes a viewer wanted to see more. Look at there about page it is a short and sweet page as they tell us what kind of brand they are and it bold/simple. The page on what are you after is excellent as it allows viewer all the type of video they create from promo to music video. They make it easy for viewers to access video in their specific categories.  Some time the way they use red in their text can be, but I understand they are just highlighting the keywords and what the viewers should look at. Overall this website is creative and stands out above the rest.

The second website I look at was Hurricane films, and it is so different to half cut as my first initial option is it dull and boring as they use a white background which is boring for a viewer to look at even though I like the design of company logo. Looking at this website I see it as a simple website because it gets straight to point which i love as a viewer sometimes don’t need to see these bright colors they want the information. The website has a tone of information on what they do and what they are about which I love as it shows how passionate they are about making films and the awards they have won. Overall I like the information they have however I don’t like the design of it.

After looking at both back at these two companies I like them for different things, for example, i love the style of Halfcut, and I like the content of Hurricane Films. Both website has helped me design my website.
