Have continued thinking about that Peeta is rescued/Katniss is captured Mockingjay au, I read One Need Not Be A Chamber To Be Haunted by Emmi88 on ao3 and it made me really really soft about Enobaria, in the fic she stays with the prisoners and (spoilers/body horror) has her teeth ripped out as torture, which having now read that I'm of the opinion is the Only way you could possibly write Enobaria being tortured, it's such an obvious option, but adding that to my avox! Katniss idea:

Katniss and Enobaria getting closer because they have to do speech therapy to learn to speak again, them being semi mute, them having an inseparable bond because of the dehumanising experience of losing your capacity to speak. Katniss and Enobaria finding solace together and feeling most comfortable speaking with each other because they don't dance around their speech impediments like other people.

I just really like my little avox Katniss au and adding Enobaria to it just really sparked joy in me

when the objectively bad person has traumatic and honestly reasonable reasons for why theyre like that but it doesnt excuse their actions and only serves to make them more tragic as a character

People who characterise post-book Gale like he was in Mockingjay devastate me, tell me you don't understand him at all without telling me!! Like listen he spent just as much time protecting Katniss' family as he did his own! If you genuinely think that losing Prim wasn't one of the most devastating things that could happen to him too you don't get him

In case no one had noticed yet I spend a lot of my free time imagining hunger games aus, anyway so I've been thinking about Peeta Mockingjay aus because I'm not totally sold on them and I've decided that if Katniss was captured and Peeta was saved by 13 Katniss wouldn't be hijacked, I think Katniss would be made into an avox

Hijacked!Katniss: mean standoffish and violent? Yeah that's just normal Katniss, it'd suck for Peeta sure but it wouldn't be the devastating change that Peeta's hijacking is because Katniss being paranoid and angry is her natural state

Avox!Katniss: her greatest strength is her ability to connect to people from the heart, she can't speak off scripts and can't lie, cutting out her tongue not only makes her mute but steals her ability to be spontaneous, she has to write or teach everyone signs or stumble through speaking without saying any letters that require her tongue, and she can't sing. It would take a major part of her identity and her strength as well as play on fears she already has. It would genuinely destabilize her in a way hijacking couldn't.
