Masculine Sources and Tools

Just like there are multiple sources and tools for feminine energy, the masculine side has it’s own as well.

SOURCES

The Sun: Solar energy is a powerful source of masculine energy. Many deities throughout history associated with the sun are depicted as men. Ra, Helios, Apollo, and Aryaman are all fine examples.

Fire: Heat, power, light, destruction, and renewal are all qualities of fire. Ambition, drive and will can be considered masculine traits that is connect to the element. 

Air: Communication, intelligence, logic, movement, and freedom are all qualities of air. Wisdom, free-thinking, and creativity can be used to connect to your own masculinity.

The Sky: The sky has been associated with masculinity for a very long time. Just like the sun, it has multiple deities that are depicted as men. You’ve probably heard the term “Mother Earth” which is the opposite to “Father Sky”

From Within: Masculine energy comes from within just like feminine does. Exercising masculine traits can bring that energy to the surface. Also, the right side of your body is the “giving”(masculine) while your left is the “receiving”(feminine).   

COMMON TOOLS

Athame: An athame is a ceremonial knife used in spell work and rituals. Typically it’s used to open and close magick circles. It also connects with the element of air. 

Wand: Traditionally, a wand is made of wood but can also be made of metal. Wands are used to direct, manipulate, and channel energy. They are associated with the element of fire. 

Feather: Feathers can be used for a variety of reasons dependent on the color. However as a general rule, they can be used to spread energy and direct it. Their connection to air is what connects it as a masculine tool. 

Pestle: This tool is the companion part to the mortar. It’s phallus shape is what connects it to the masculine. The tool itself is used to grind herbs. With the mortar it can build energy and direct it.

Gold: Both the metal and the color has deep connections to the masculine. It represents the sun and fire. Wearing the color can increase masculine energy in spell casting and other magical practices.

My current (ever-growing) collection of crystals and stones includes; Blue Apatite, Clear Quartz, Jade Nephrite, Bornite, Chrysocolla, Ruby in Zoisite and Amythest. 😍

This is my sacred space as of Christmas Day 2019. I am offering reverence to Yule with seasonal clippings.

On the left I have an antler that was gifted to me by my boyfriend and a piece of driftwood I found on the coast. These represent the Horned God or Lord/masculine aspect of the Creator (as I currently understand/know him).

On the right I have again a piece of driftwood sitting atop a smooth stone with seashells (again from the Oregon Coast). These signify Goddess the Lady/Feminine aspect of the Creator (as I currently understand/know her).

I’m not in a hurry to put a statue in my space or call God by any name other than Creator (Which I use most of the time to revere both aspects as one). Depending on my prayer I may address The Lord or the Lady individually as the spirit moves me.

I confess at feeling a slight sense of loss in not being able to address God by name...for example, a common childhood prayer could be directed to God (the Father) or Jesus and it was (in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!) This was naturally a personal and sometimes intimate experience. I do however know that this stage is part of my journey. I’m just definitely someone who needs affirmation that my spiritual path is correct for me. I long to have a more intimate relationship with God/Goddess and be able to call them by name. I know this will come with time!

This book is truly a gem! The version I have was published in the late 80s and contains ancient folklore surrounding the use of herbs and plants for medicinal/spiritual purposes. While it is an old book and not currently in print, I have found it on Amazon. This book is so well-written and has truly beautiful pictures. You will understand the history behind plants and their medical properties as well as learn how to plant based on where you live, as well as an index of DIY cold remedies, personal hygiene items like face masks etc, teas and beverages recipes as well as INCREDIBLE breakfast, lunch and dinner recipes! Do yourself a favor and just order it while they’re still floating around!

I can’t put this book down! If you are looking for guidance in becoming more a tuned to nature and our earth I recommend you add this to your library!
