An Intro into Tarot Reading
Hello witches! Today I thought I’d share some of my knowledge on tarot reading!
What are tarot cards?
Tarot cards are cards with ornate pictures that symbolize every human emotion and experience. They usually have 78 cards, 22 of them being in the Major Arcana and 56 being the Minor Arcana. They can either be bought or hand drawn, though hand drawing tarot cards can take a lot of effort and time.
A Slice of History
Some of the oldest tarot cards were made during the 1400s by the Visconti family of Milan. The 3 decks called the Visconti Trumps are know as the start of modern-day tarot cards. Tarot cards were originally a playing game and, to get tarot cards, they had to commission artists to make them, making them to get as a commoner.
Rider-Waite Tarot Deck
Eventually, by the 18th century, people started to give them meanings. One notable example is when Jean-Baptiste Alliette published their meaning for tarot cards in 1770. In the 20th century, Arthur Edward Waite commissioned Pamela Coleman Smith to create the modern Rider-Waite Tarot Deck which is the most popular and most famous tarot deck today.
How do I pick which tarot card set to use?
Personally, I would say to pick the one that most resonates with you. This’ll especially help once you get to start reading cards. One of the most famous set of tarot cards are the Rider-Waite Tarot Cards which is usually recommended to beginners, but this tarot deck can sometimes be hard to decipher.
The Modern Witch Tarot Deck by Lisa Sterle
Another good deck I’d suggest is the Modern Witch Tarot Deck by Lisa Sterle. It’s similar to the Rider-Waite deck but has a lot of modern spins to it.
How I Read Tarot Cards:
First, I try to meditate to make sure I have a clear mind when I start reading. I also make sure to ground myself. It can be hard sometimes to do readings if I don’t do this first because reading can really drain my energy.
Second, I pick what spread I want to do. A spread is a way of reading tarot cards. Each tarot card in a spread represents something specific. I usually pick one depending on what type of question I have. For a reflection on my day, I just use a one card spread, but if it’s a more complex question like, “am I in the right relationship?” then I would use the Celtic Cross spread, which has 10 cards, or something like it.
Third, I say my question into my card and start shuffling. I personally like to let the cards “jump” out of the deck but, if I’m in a rush, then I’ll take the top card from the deck. I think letting the cards jump out is better because it really makes sure you pick a card with an authentic answer rather than trying to get the answer you want. The big con though is it can be a bit hard to tell whether it really jumped out of the deck on its own or if you’re being clumsy.
Forth, I lay my cards out in the spread I want and start to read them according to the spread. Everyone has their own ways of interpreting tarot cards and I suggest you find what’s best for you. If you don’t know where to start, I posted my method of reading tarot cards here.
Finally, once I’m done reading, I jot all my notes down in a tarot journal. A tarot journal doesn’t have to be fancy. It can just be a regular notebook or writing pad. In my journal, I list down all the cards in the spread and try to sum up what I’ve learned in my reading. Even if I wasn’t sure what the reading meant, I can go back on it later and reflect.
I hoped this help you guys start reading tarot cards! Have a blessed day!

Starting Your Book of Shadows or Grimoire
Hey witches! Having a Book of Shadows or grimoire is a big step into becoming a practicing witch so I thought I’d give you guys a helpful guide to making one!
What’s a Grimoire/Book of Shadows?
Simply, a grimoire/Book of Shadows is a book that contains important information on moon phases, deities, spell making, divination, etc. It is usually written by the owner of the book throughout their journey into becoming a witch.
What’s the Difference Between a Grimoire and a Book of Shadows?
A grimoire contains basic information on many different topics such as spell making and divination.
A Book of Shadows contains basic information on different topics and journal entries or more personal information such as your deities, tarot readings you’ve done, magickal recipes you’ve made, etc.
How to Start a Grimoire or BoS:
1. Figure out if a grimoire or BoS is better for you.
Both of these have pros and cons. With grimoires, some can just be bought that have basic information on magick and have more space to add more information. With store bought ones though, it can be hard to decorate or customize them exactly the way you like. You can start a grimoire from scratch, but you would only put more general information in it.
A BoS would have a lot more specific information and really can’t be store bought as a BoS reflects your journey into becoming a witch. You wouldn’t be as limited to only putting general information.
2. Figure out where to place your information.
Figuring out what should be your grimoire or BoS can be a bit tough. Most you’ll probably see are very fancy journals that are decorated but you don’t have to be fancy! Some people prefer to use a marble notebook or a binder because it’s more discrete. Others prefer using a digital notes app or google docs because it’s very easy to carry around. You choose whatever suits you best.
3. Start taking notes on the topics you like.
You may want to take notes on a separate paper before placing it in your grimoire or BoS. Once you have all your notes, you can choose whether to decorate your notes or not. Some people prefer to have a more practical way writing notes in their BoS or grimoire and some prefer to decorate them by drawing or using whatever they have.
I hope this helped you make a grimoire or BoS! Have a blessed Friday everyone!

Altars
Hey witches! Today we’ll be talking about altars! I’ve had different altars throughout my path so far so I thought I’d share some ideas on how to make your own!
What’s an altar?
Altars are dedicated spaces for a witch to do their craft. It can be decorated as they see fit and different elements can be incorporated to show dedication to a specific deity or represent different energies. Every altar is different and should be unique to you.
Some Common Things on an Altar
1. Divination Tools
2. Wands and Athames
3. Crystals
4. Book of Shadows/Grimoire
5. Decorations that represent the 4 elements
6. Decorations that represent your deities
My Altar
Here’s a picture of my altar! I mostly have my most used tools on here for easy access. I also have it next to the window so the moonlight can cleanse it.
On the left shelf, I have some of my divination tools, like my tarot cards and crystal ball. In the middle, I have my BoS and my tarot journal. On the right, I have some crystals I use when I meditate and some I use in spells.
On the top level of my altar are all my decorations for the 4 elements and passive and active energy. The left part is dedicated to passive energy and water and air. The right part is dedicated to active energy and fire and earth.
I really hope this gave you ideas for making your own altar! Have a blessed day!
Cleansing
Hello witches! Before I start this post, I really want to thank you guys for 1,000+ followers!
I really can’t believe how fast this blog has grown in only the past month. I’m so happy you all enjoy my posts! Now on to the today’s topic, cleansing!
What is cleansing?
Cleansing is the act of getting rid of unwanted energy from a certain space or object through various means. Cleansing a space or object can help spells work properly and help witches ground themselves. It can also help wanted energy flow through into an object or space better.
Ways to Cleanse
1. Smoke Cleansing
This is one of the most popular ways to cleanse spaces and objects. You can use herbs such as white sage or palo santo or use incense to cleanse. To smoke cleanse, hold the object under the smoke or waft the smoke around the room to cleanse the space. Note that white sage usually gets rid of all energy from spaces and objects so make sure to add more wanted energy in when using white sage.
2. Moonlight/Sunlight
This is another popular way to cleanse. You can cleanse by placing objects under the full moon or let them bask in sunlight. To cleanse a room, you can simply open the blinds/curtains to let some sunlight or moonlight in. I usually cleanse my room with sunlight if I feel the energy is stagnant.
3. Sprays
Sprays can really help cleanse a space if you’re a closeted witch. You can make some by mixing water with various oils and herbs! You can even buy a room spray from Bath & Body Works or another store and bless it! Sprays can help clear out unwanted energy while also placing in some wanted energy.
4. Sound
Sound can also really help if you’re a closeted witch. You can use a bell or sound bowl to clear unwanted energy. If those are too witchy, you can use calming music. I think meditation music is the best type to clear out unwanted energy. This is personally my favorite way to cleanse spaces. I bless my records and let them play while they also fill me with positive energy.
5. Crystals
Some crystals such as selenite or quartz are self-cleansing and can be used to cleanse spaces. You can cleanse objects by placing them on top of a big self-cleansing crystal or cleanse rooms by hanging them. They also make really nice decoration!
6. Plants
Plants can help if you’re a closeted witch. Certain plants can absorb in unwanted energy to get rid of it from spaces. I personally have a lot of succulents and cacti to get rid of negative energy.
7. Oil Diffusers
This is also one of my favorites to cleanse! You can add different types of essential oils to a mist essential oil diffuser cleanse and add energy. For a slower, longer cleanse, you can use a reed diffuser.
8. Visualization
This is one of the harder ways to cleanse if you’re not skilled in visualization but can really help in a pinch! You can cleanse object by holding them in your hands, imagining a light circling an object to get rid of unwanted energy. You can cleanse a room by doing the same thing.
NOTE: If you have a pet, please be careful with using some of these methods, specifically smoke cleansing, sprays, plants, and oils. Using the wrong herbs or oils can seriously harm your pet!
Hope you guys liked this post and I hoped this helped you out! Blessed be!

Things to do for Yule
Hello witches! Here are some activities to do for Yule!
1. Enchant hot chocolate.
I always love a good cup of hot chocolate on a cold day, so why not make that a bit more magical? I always add peppermint to mine to wake myself up. You can make your hot chocolate homemade and put your own flavors into it. You can also try and make sigils with the foam!
2. Decorate your altar or sacred space.
You can decorate altar with a tiny tree or even have one in your room! You can also hang up things that remind you of Yule. If you work with any deities, you could decorate their space with what they like.
3. Make witchy presents for people.
Gifts could be as complex as a witch bottle or as simple as enchanting some jewelry. The sky is the limit!
4. Make self-love spells.
Sometimes the holidays can be a bit rough so doing self-love spells can really help! I made a witch bottle of self-love for a friend of mine. You can make sigils or even full rituals for self-love.
5. Enchant greeting cards.
If you send greeting cards to your relatives or friends, you can place sigils on them for good luck. You can place some money in for prosperity. You can simply cleanse the card and place your intention on it.
This is a bit of a shorter post but I hope this gave you some ideas for Yule! Happy holidays!
Update!
Hey witches! So I’m currently on vacation for Christmas so I apologize if the posts come out later than usual. I won’t have much time to make posts as I’m spending time with my family I haven’t seen in awhile. Other than that, have a blessed Yule and happy New Year!
