Windows Update Files
Hello, everyone. How are you doing? This is mdtech here of another quick tutorial today, I'm going to show you how to clear the windows update cache in Windows, 10 windows automatically will cache all windows update installation files when you download and install them onto your computer in Windows 10. As I'm sure many of you are aware, it's an automated process with very limited user control. One positive aspect about caches is that windows can reapply updates without having to download them again from their own servers online. Taking a more time bandwidth and just overall frustration, it's going to be a lot easier to update files if there is a cache already stored on the computer. However, as time goes on again, the cache gets larger and larger it'll just take out more harddrive space. So in this tutorial I will be showing you how to clear the update cache, while this can be done using the disk cleanup utility - it's not as thorough as some people would like, and it doesn't do a complete 100 percent cleaning job.
So we're going to do the best method possible to get rid of as much of it as possible. So what we're going to do is head over to our start button and then we're going to type in services we're going to right click on the services button and then we're going to left-click on run as administrator where the services window open. We want to go down to Windows, Update so we're going to just scroll down here. Okay, so once you reach Windows Update, you want to right, click on it and select stop ok! So we can see the Windows Update servers for stopped. Now that that's complete, we want to head back over to our Start button on a right-click on it.
Then we want to left-click on run. Now we want to type in uppercase C colon forward, slash windows, forward, slash software distribution, and then you want to click on enter once for the software distribution, folder double-click on the download folder, not the one on the sign here, but the one in the center by Underneath delivery, optimization now, what you want to do with the keyboard is hold down the ctrl, a key to select all of the items in this list, and then you can right click and then left click on delete and you can see how much space is being Cleared as we delete the catch right now, it's already almost at 400 megabytes you, you might get some folder access tonight.
Just check mark in this bond saying do this for all current items and then left critical and continue. You have to have administrative privileges in order to do this, you if it says you could not find the item. Just click on this little bouncing. Do this for all current items and then left click on skip you, and now we see that our folder is empty. So this pretty much clears most, except for this one file in here, it's probably still being actively used on the computer. Just don't worry about it. For the most part, the cache has been cleared.
Um there's also further options. You could take this and go into deleting some files within the delivery. Optimization folder, however, that is much less significant than what we just did right here today and in most cases, would be unnecessary. So I hope this is toriel help you guys out, and I will see you in the next video goodbye
