Seeing Élise was such a relief. Being in the middle of the woods wasn't what was concerning Cai, the stress of potentially catching his parents in the middle of their dinner party having a better time than they ever did when he was home was what scared him the most. Thankfully, finding the young girl allowed a wave of solace to fall over the pink-haired trainer; knowing someone else was avoiding the suffocating and claustrophobic air surrounding all of Laverrian high society was comforting.

kalos. he’s finally here! a region full of beautiful, expansive cities unlike any he could find in johto or hoenn. even goldenrod can’t compare to the beautifully lit up streets of lumiose city. he’s only just stepped out of his hotel to explore the city, and ruby’s eyes are already ablaze with curiosity and wonder. he’d only arrived that morning and, as much as he’d wanted to begin his exploration of the city as soon as possible, he needed to locate his hotel to drop off his things. but now, unpacked and checked in, ruby is more than ready to enjoy all kalos has to offer. starting with lumiose.

Cai looked around the table in the dimly lit dive and saw how each of the middle-aged men had this glint of disdain in their eyes when the youngest blackjack player at the bar confidently raised the stakes. "Ha!! Je gagne!" He couldn't help but laugh as he saw all the balding, grumpy Kalosian men open their wallets and hand him their cash. That's what they get for doubting him. Of course this was his home turf, but he thought by now that the rumors about him would have reached most other gamblers.

The pink-haired boy gambler greedily scooped up his winnings and made his way towards the bartender to order a drink with his newly earned cash. While he waited for his order, Cai heard the men growing louder behind him, but attempting at being the bigger person, he refused to answer to their various slurs.

He was used to this by now, seeing people get angry after losing outrageous sums of money that they knowingly bet, but he was so desensitized to their fits that even the worst acts of aggression left him unphased. At least that's what thought until when he felt a glass bottle whiz past the side of his head and smash into the wall in front of him.

He scurried (as calmly as possible to maintain a semblance of a cool demeanor) out of the gambling joint and found himself in a familiar alleyway. Upon walking into the cool night air, he heard someone mutter to themselves and saw what seemed to be a lost tourist. He heard some glass smashing and yells from the bar he just came from and decided to get a move on.

"Hey there kid, I'm your new tour guide. Behind us, we have a less than reputable establishment that we should distance ourselves from at all costs if we intend on seeing the City of Light at its finest. If you follow me you’ll get a full, free, fabulous tour of Lumiose that most other tourists couldn’t dream of."

Christoph knew that he had certainly amassed quite a few fans along the way. And with that came the reality that, even without intending to, he’d… stolen their hearts as well! He’d never intended to! Honestly! But it just ended up… happening that way! Now, he won’t confirm or deny that he was attractive to others — personally, he didn’t like to judge his own appearance — but judging from his fans, well… a lot of people seemed to think he was!

And he wouldn’t try to refute them. No, by no means would he try to make himself any more different just to deter them. If they wanted to like him, they could! But… he had never found himself in the position where he’d necessarily want to reciprocate the others’ feelings!

Cai had been counting down the days, though he would never admit it to anyone, and his heart was about to jump out of his chest. It was finally time for Christoph's concert in Lumiose.

The pecha-haired trainer had been following the up-and-coming idol ever since his debut but was never open about it because he knew that people would immediately associate him with the stereotypically young and toxic fanbase who constantly tried to uncover the artists' identity.

Nonetheless, Cai made sure to buy every album that Christoph released because for some reason the songs that the pop icon released always struck a chord in the Kalosian trainer. He never had the chance to actually go to one of Christoph's concerts, but it was all about to change.

Cai had been out late last night, doing what he hated to love. He told himself that he needed the money, but he knows he wanted to see their mouths drop when he showed his hand, he wanted that rush of pulling the chips closer to him and counting his earnings. After staying out until the morning, the sun streaming through the window woke him up in the early afternoon with his winnings next to his hotel bed and hair a mess.

Reluctantly getting up and mentally preparing himself for what he hated the most about these mornings after, Cai pulled himself out of bed towards the mirror. While brushing his teeth he looked at himself, from his pecha hair to his lavender eyes, he just stared, wondering what brought him here; why was he at this hotel, why did he waste half his day - why can't he stop?

He was still in the clothes he wore to whatever trashy hole in the wall he had found the previous night and couldn't stop the familiar stench of grime from flooding his nostrils. Just like every other morning after one of his poker nights he would feel his eyes start to sting and his chest start to rise but years of doing the same routine made Cai instinctively pushed it down, he almost didn't notice it anymore.

I have to change. I want to. I'm going to stop.

He repeated this mantra as he peeled off his clothes and hopped into the shower praying that the water would clean off his smell and shame. Disappointed by the lingering sense of remorse, he pulled out whatever was still clean from his suitcase and put it on.

Hoping to make the most of whatever was left of his day, Cai stuffed his winnings into his wallet and rushed out of his room to head to the nearest convenience store; some potions and other basics were hastily thrown into the basket that Cai was hauling up and down every aisle. Finally stopping to check what he had haphazardly decided to buy, Cai looked up just to see a tan man with blood dribbling down both of his legs.

He felt his eyes widen in shock as he jumped towards the first aid section, grabbing gauze along with a few other essentials, and scurrying to the register. His two eyes were glued to the injured stranger and slowly the smaller details of this man became apparent, his tan skin was scattered with various white scars up and down his body forming an almost artistic pattern and he had a glazed look in his rust-colored eyes, but more importantly it seemed to Cai that he needed to smile.

After holding the door open and gesturing the man to follow, they sat down on the steps outside as Cai immediately got to work on his knees, which Cai discovered was the source of the rivers of red that were streaming down his skin.

"I'm Caito, but you can just call me Cai," Offering a small grin to the stony faced man while Cai's hands were swift at work, "I sure hope this doesn't happen too often." He thought he had seen the stranger offer a slight nod so Cai finished up the bandage in silence, not wanting to force the man to do anything he wasn't up to. Once done, Cai felt like something was missing; a small heat rose to the trainer's face as a blush ran across his cheeks painting them pink. He gave both of the injured knees a small peck and stood up.
