Making a Sanegiyuu au where Giyuu is a prince, of an island called umiseicho, i’m working on it. I want there to be some kind of magic especially to do with water, i haven’t quite worked out what Sanemi actually is yet, but i do know that he was going to be sentenced to death but Giyuu stepped in and he got put in the dungeon of the castle. Tsutako in this au is the queen because we love tsutako.

Something i just had to do with Shinobu in this au though was make her some kind of witchy character, she’s definitely going to have something to do with making potions, because we all know Shinobu would love to make potions living without a husband fr.

Akaza and Giyuu parallels post cause I can't stand how little it's discussed:

"You are not weak"

First few panels of the fight: Both of them talking about how Tanjirou is not weak anymore. Because of that, he gets to keep his dignity (and yeah, both Akaza and Giyuu do directly equate strength with dignity - explained more later).

Fighting Enthusiasm

We all saw just how enthusiastic Akaza gets about fighting, in contrast to Giyuu, who directly says "I don't want to wield my blade to the best of my ability".

The "End Style - Chaotic Blue Metal Afterflow" vs Dead Calm

An attack that Giyuu's Dead Calm negates directly against - an all-over random attack, similar to Rui's "Cutting Thread Rotation" attack. The only problem was that Giyuu's sword was broken, and yet, he survived it. Really impressive.

Strong vs Weak

Strength is what they both yearn for, to protect the ones they love. Akaza loves fighting. He especially loves when his opponents can match him. Because of that, he asked the names of Kyoujurou and Giyuu to remember them, as a way of showing respect to the strong. While he easily dismisses people who he deems weak, he gives respect to those who he deems strong.

In Mugen Train Arc, Kyoujurou and Akaza debated on this. In Kyoujurou's heroic view, it's not just the strong that deserve respect. It is the duty of the strong members of society to protect the weak ones. It opposes Akaza's view, who thinks the weak should be eliminated.

Giyuu too demonstrated a thinking similar to Akaza, while less radical. The weak have no rights or options, their only fate is to get trampled by the strong. Obviously, Giyuu performes his duties in the same ideology as Kyoujurou, but he's hopeless regarding it. Kyoujurou and Giyuu are opposites like that - one is entirely positive and provides everyone else with hope, while Giyuu... does not do that.

It doesn't change his actions, however. Giyuu put his life on the line for Tanjirou and Nezuko, who are much weaker than him, who couldn't protect themselves against the corps wanting to kill Nezuko. His ideology is not to trample on the weak or make fun of it, it is merely a result of his own impostor's syndrome due to his past, manifesting as self-hatred. Giyuu hence projected all this onto his first encounter with Tanjirou, provoking him to fight for protection's sake. In the end, Tanjirou looks up to both Kyoujurou and Giyuu, as both protected others sacrificing themselves.

Akaza on the other hand, he's a demon, and has killed countless people. His hatred of the weak goes further than simply projection and self-hatred, he detests it. He's on the demon side because his weakness was not proved over and over because of demons, it was humans. Humans penalized him for stealing for medicine, humans poisoned the well to Keizo's dojo. Furthermore, he was recruited by Muzan at his most vulnerable.

I do like the portrayal of this better in Giyuu vs Akaza then Kyoujurou vs Akaza. That's not to say I have a little qualms about the writing of Giyuu vs Akaza. I think a little moment of talking and conversation would have benefitted, similar to Kyoujurou vs Akaza, or hell even Tanjirou in Infinity Castle Arc. I know it's obvious to all the Demon Slayer fans, but I find that outside of a little bubble, because of the whole "Demon Slayer isn't deep it's just cool animation fights" crowd, a lot of people don't understand why it was Giyuu who fought Akaza, unlike, say, Mitsuri, who's a woman and we'd see some interesting moments regarding Akaza not killing women. And yes, while that is interesting, Akaza and Giyuu are one of the greatest foils in Demon Slayer. I think people dismiss that greatly.

Protection

Giyuu's and Akaza's main theme: Protection. To summarize, Giyuu's impostor's syndrome comes from being unable to protect Tsutako and Sabito, while they were the ones who protected him instead. Akaza's backstory lays down the fact that he was unable to protect his dad, Keizo, or Koyuki. Over and over again, he's not been present during the deaths of them.

And that's the case with Giyuu too - he regrets not being there to save people. He puts the blame on Tanjirou for "showing his back" and not fighting. For Giyuu, his anger comes from himself and his own weaknesses. His motivation for becoming a demon slayer has to do with being able to protect his loved ones more than anything. Let's just say, he contrasts Sanemi - someone who has "Kill" written on the back of his haori to symbolize his anger against the existence of demons.

As for Akaza, we learn that the name "Hakuji" comes from "Komainu" - the statues in front of the door of shrines, a symbol of protection. His destiny is entirely to protect, and yet he failed, over and over.

This also gives us one of the greatest panels of Giyuu:

He's the Komainu here, he's standing as a guard for Tanjirou. I particularly like this translation, "you'll have to get through me first". Since Komainus are right outside the door or on walkways of shrines, you must get through them first to enter the shrine. That's what Giyuu is standing as in this moment.

He's also fulfilling his theme of protection. He failed previously to protect either Tsutako or Sabito, but won't fail once again for Tanjirou. He's putting his life on the line for Tanjirou. They both succeed in this fight - both Giyuu and Tanjirou succeed in protecting each other.

Can't paste a picture since I reached the picture limit unfortunately but, there's a specific moment where Giyuu says "I will protect Tanjirou, just as he would have done for me". It's a mutual thing for them, but Giyuu is still a senior, with responsibility to protect Tanjirou.

Contrasting that, Akaza kills himself. He declares it fair that Tanjirou defeated him while slashing his head off. In that way, he respects true strength, one that Tanjirou had attained since their last encounter. The visions of his loved ones - his dad, Keizo, and Koyuki, overpower even Muzan's control.

The fight pretty much ended with Giyuu not being a "useless komainu". Giyuu firmly stood on his role as the protector. It's Giyuu's main goal - protecting his loved ones. Though obviously he hadn't accepted himself as strong in general (that came about later against Muzan), it cemented Giyuu's main theme of protection (and yeahhh that's why he created the 11th form Dead Calm, so that no one would have to protect him, he'd defend himself, and he'd also defend others).

HADDD to make this post after seeing someone complain about how Giyuu's biggest character trait and writing is simply his depression lmfao. There's a lot more to him!!! His sad backstory is not the extent of his writing!!!! But also feel free to add anything if I've missed it, I'll enjoy learning more too🫶 I think you CAN pull some other parallels like snow/water or blue attack colour palettes or Akaza fighting the Flame and Water Pillars of this generation, but I didn't see enough of a reason to make separate points regarding them.

Giyuu vs Sanemi sparring thoughts...

The anime specifically made it obvious that Giyuu was fighting and keeping up with Sanemi with a chipped sword. I don't know what it says about Giyuu - whether he does a mediocre job protecting his sword right away (hehe Akaza fight), or that when he DOES fail to protect his sword, he comes out stronger on the other side, matching up with his opponent even with a chipped/broken sword.

But why do his swords get fucked in the first place??? (well TECHNICALLY, it's just foreshadowing-)

I guess it's to show that Giyuu is very, very flexible when it comes to using even a damn broken sword, water breathing and all. Like, hell, he somehow survived Akaza's strongest attack, with a broken sword, a dead calm, and a dream. He ALSO survived getting straight on whipped by Muzan with a broken sword, a dead calm, and a dream. Impressive as hell to me.

And compared to that, his fight against Sanemi wasn't an ALL OUT. He did manage to break Sanemi's sword, and his own half-broken sword held out until then. I think that takes some insane skill. Perhaps it's why Sanemi enjoyed sparring against Giyuu so much. He knew Giyuu would be able to stand any of his attacks, even with a barely usable sword.

To get into the relationship analysis of all that - he trusts Giyuu. He knows Giyuu is strong, and that makes Giyuu's demeanour even more infuriating. Someone as strong as Giyuu MUST have some superiority complex, right? Not like Giyuu does anything to fight the allegations either. I rarely use the anime for reference, but Sanemi was a little too angry at being interrupted by Tanjirou.. wasn't he? He absolutely was having fun against Giyuu. AND IT MAKES ME SAD THAT WE DID NOT GET MORE MOMENTS OF THEM FIGHTING TOGETHER OR AGAINST EACH OTHER.

It does make me wonder though, if Giyuu was a "use anything at your disposal" kind of fighter to the extent of Sanemi... how much stronger would he be? I don't think he needs the extra strength, considering he's already, y'know, a damn good fighter, but oh we'd see some crazy moments with him.

In honour of the birthday of Giyuu Tomioka the best character in demon slayer (to ME), I will use my free will to rant about the best Giyuu panels in the manga:

1.

Peak. Best of the best. Magnum opus of Demon Slayer manga. This specific moment is when my emotions reach the climax every single time I read the fight.

Giyuu and Tanjirou, one arm each, holding on to one sword, focus on the Rengoku sword hilt. Tanjirou being guided once again by the two hashiras he looks up to the most.

Once again, right after this, Tanjirou pushes Giyuu back and saves his life. A full circle, the lowest of the low for Giyuu, the highest of the highs of striking Muzan together.

Notice that Giyuu unlocked the red blade TWICE, once with Sanemi, his foil among the hashiras, and now with Tanjirou, the one he cherishes the most. Giyuu - always defined by his relationships. Giyuu as an individual character in a vacuum has very little to show. It's just another backstory, a traumatized hashira, just like the other demon slayers. Giyuu stands out in Demon Slayer because he is constantly present, he has developing relationships. The red blade is just another show for that. This panel does this theme of Giyuu justice too.

And, lore aside, the absolute HYPE of this scene. The long drawn fight, the hashiras with lost limbs all down, Sanemi and Obanai come in to attack Muzan and save Tanjirou, but oh-- where's Giyuu again? RIGHT HEREEEEE!!!!!!! LENDING A HAND TO TANJIROU, LITERALLY, AS HE ALWAYS HAS.

2.

Pretty self explanatory. Absolute badass, putting himself between an Uppermoon and someone he cares about, Tanjirou.

It goes into Giyuu's biggest theme of protection. He hates being protected, he wants to protect the people he loves (just like Akaza). He did not want to be a 'useless komainu' to Tanjirou. I don't know if it's stated explicitly but its obvious that Dead Calm was created so he would be able to protect himself without needing the help of others. His fight against Rui was a simpler version of this: protecting Tanjirou (though at the time he didn't recognize him), against Rui, whose whole theme was about wanting to be protected by a family, with elders fulfilling their role of protection.

Here Giyuu and Tanjirou were, dealing with the same theme again, and Giyuu going all out with wanting Tanjirou to survive. It's not that he's been silent about his love for Tanjirou, but this is where he explicitly declares wanting to protect him, in his own words (do NOT take a shot everytime you see the word "protect").

3.

Debating between this or the 4th panel, I chose this as the 3rd because this is MY post and I want to make top 3 posts all about him and Tanjirou.

And boyyyyyy is it about him and Tanjirou. He cant even sit up. Is it not insane to see him being THIS vulnerable?? in public???? Add to the fact that he knows Tanjirou's closer friends are right there in the same battlefield, and yet it was him who couldn't help but want to stay physically close to Tanjirou. If Tanjirou's death had been true, he'd be back at square 1, being useless, never strong enough (quite a recurring theme in Demon Slayer I must say).

Like, look, he's sobbing, he cried like three times during this whole DKT and death deal. When the inevitable Sunrise Countdown movie comes out, I personally would like to close my eyes and ears during this scene.

4.

I admit this could and should have been number 3. But that aside, the coolest panel in the manga award goes to... (to be fair, that can be debated, other panels are just as cool if not cooler for sure.)

Sanemi and Giyuu, peak relationship in Demon Slayer. This moment is the climax to all of the buildup since !!Sanemi's first appearance!! (you see how Giyuu was giving him a whole lot of side eye that scene?)

In a way Sanemi and Giyuu bring out some ~interesting~ emotions in eachother. Who else would Giyuu call a simpleton? Who else would Sanemi pick a fight with, simultaneously trying to understand them? When you go to the AU territory, that's a pretty hefty magnetic pull of a relationship, isn't it?

And this moment - as I said earlier, one of the red blades Giyuu achieved, it's with Sanemi! Sanemi trusted Giyuu with equal strength (as Kanao said that was necessary for a red blade strike), and we've seen them draw before, and that's the ONLY hashira vs hashira we saw! (well, ufotable added a whole bunch, and I'm thankful for that, but I do regard Gotouge's compact and limited version of the story higher. Gotouge thought that Sanemi vs Giyuu was the most important hashira sparring for the audience out of all of them, and for obvious reasons).

All of that, AND the panel calls back to that one picture of Sabito flying over Giyuu. Two of the rough dudes Giyuu has been associated with, which is a nice touch.

And heyyy that's the sword that Sanemi threw at Giyuu!! Which was a pretty important moment right before Giyuu explicitly called himself a hashira (contrasting with Tanjirou, where he stood merely as the protector, the senior, with no regard to their posts and hierarchies). Sanemi gave Giyuu some real good push this fight. Would have loved to see them on a mission together, but alas, Demon Slayer manga is pretty limited with what it shows.

5.

I don't have much to say. It's just cute, alright? Look at him all teeny tiny smiling about the prospect of being friends with Sanemi. What the hell. Why are you so cute. Look at Tanjirou sharing the same dumbass braincell. What's up with these two

10/10. More of 21 trio stupidness, please. And look at Giyuu's stupid face as if he didn't just insult Sanemi in front of everyone. OBANAI, HE DIDN'T EVEN SAY ANYTHING TO YOU-

MURATAAAAAAA and yes, while I do love this because of the whole Murata celebrity crush on Giyuu thing and all, I love how desperate Giyuu was the entire time to save Tanjirou, even in the middle of his own fight again MUZAN HIMSELF. And who better to take care of Tanjirou than Murata, someone who took care of him back when Sabito died? Connected bonds, alright. Sabito already helped Tanjirou with his journey back in Mt. Sagiri, he could also use someone else from Giyuu's past.

Post canon, all of it. The light in his eyes, his journey, he deserves all of the love and peace.

First post on this blog that’s going to be about Spirit World Adventures (Swa), so here’s some information about it!

Swa is an animated gacha series, as well as just a story in general, The plot is surrounded around ‘Spirit World’ which is a realm that’s located in the middle of the earth, the world is filled with mythical creatures that are called Spirit creatures. Some creatures are humanoid with animal attributes, while others are fully animalistic. They all have magical abilities, these abilities vary depending on the element that species is linked with. (fire, water, air etc) There’s a section of the realm that’s corrupted, it earned the name ‘Ghost World’ it’s overrun by corrupted Spirit creatures who are referred to as ghosts, apparently there’s someone behind it, That person is referred to as legend.

The main plot focuses on Lily and Ryan two teenagers that that grew up in the human realm only to find out about Spirit World, and how they weren’t actually human in the first place, there’s other aspects that hasn’t appeared in the episodes yet, ( i made the first two episodes when i was younger, and i’m working on episode three that’s nearly done but still has a pretty old plot line) There’s going to be a lot more in depth aspects to the realm, such as the gods, culture, language, more development on the magic system.

Some information on the series in general:

The first two episodes were just winged really, the third episode is entirely done in alight motion and then i’m planning to use live2d for the rest, it’s a voice acted series, everyone who voice acts and helps with the series is doing it for free (thank you to everyone that’s helping me develop this little project)

I’m never heard from again.
