Lysander nodded and eagerly analyzed the pictures of graphics and people. “These are impressive! Very original and detailed! I’m sure you’ll be successful!”
"Oh, stop it." Actually pleased, Toby looks away again. This was beginning to be a habit. "So...?"
"Ooh! Can I see? Please? I’m sure they’re great!" Lysander’s eyes and and hands pleaded.
"Okay.. but you have to show me more dancing!" Tentatively, Toby flipped through a notebook, and raised it to show Lysander some basic drawings. "Like I said, nothing special."
"I think I have an accurate visual now…maybe. But who cares about that, what are you drawing?" Lysander points at the supplies that Toby are holding.
Following Lysander's pointing, Toby looks down and blushes, pulling the stuff closer to his chest. "Oh, nothing important. Just basic human models. I'm trying to be a game designer, some day. I'm probably not that good yet."
"I thought the Carolinas were next to Florida…I’m confused."
"Oh, they are! It sort of follows a line upwards, going through Florida, Georgia, and turning right at the Carolinas. I'm probably explaining this horribly, I suck at maps."
"Tennessee…that’s next to New York right? Or was it New Jersey?"
"No, actually, it's much more in the south. Sort of to the upper left of Alabama and the Carolinas. But... close?"
"…oh my god I’m an idiot…..that is definitely not something you ask someone upon first meeting…."
"N-no, that's okay! You just caught me off guard, is all."
"Your parents seem strict…they don’t like…hurt you do they?"
"...What?"
"uh, my real parents gave me up when I was a baby and my adoptive parents are absolutely amazing…they give me everything I need and I mean sometimes they get mean but they’re parents so you know…."
"Being adopted sounds cool. All that matters is that you get the love you need. And trust me, I know. I'm no stranger to parents getting mean."
"Where’re you from? I don’t know how someone couldn’t know about dancing."
"Y'see, I'm pretty much from Nowheresville, Tennessee. Very traditional, and our only dances are square and that thing where you sway around at school dances."
"Your dad sounds kind of like an asshole….."
"M-maybe a little. What about you? What are your parents like?"
"Ughh.. Just Dali. Drop the Mr and Sir and other things like that. But okay, so you’re a newcomer. You need help with something? I have maps if you need one."
"Ah— o-okay, Dali." Feeling awkward, Toby looked down at his hands, fidgeting. "No, that's okay, you don't have to do that. I still have mine from the school handbook."
"What I was doing was ballet. Have you never seen ballet before?”
"Nope, I can't say that I have. Dancing where I come from is more... unrefined."
"….nobody is stupid, dude…"
"I don't know about that, friend. My dad used to say I didn't have a grain of sense in me."
"….you seem to get down on yourself a lot…"
"Hm? I hadn't noticed. I guess if I deserve it though, someone has to reprimand me, right?"
"I don’t think there was a..tongue twister anywhere in there but maybe there was…."
"You're probably right. Lord, I'm sure I'm just being dumb again, don't mind me."

Yeah. And in my defense, your tongue twister was asking for confusion."
"Oh, well yeah, but I like to practice where I perform. Also, there’s a lot of dancers in that small room. It’s hard to do some of the moves with the limited amount of space."
"That makes sense. I'm not much of a dancer besides school dances, and even then I'm not too good. What you were doing looked nice, though."
