Update on GP downtime
For the most part, GP has been pretty stable with our web host over the years, even if they’ve been merely adequate instead of being good or great.
That all changed this month as we’re experiencing probably the worst downage since we originally moved to this host (with all of the headaches of transferring sites between hosts) in 2012.
The reason for the downtime is the host is upgrading their hardware, but there was literally no communication from them to clients about it; I had to email them to find out. This, along with some downtime earlier last month, has amounted to at least a week of downtime (and counting) in just one month’s time, which is hugely unacceptable -- upgrade or not -- for a web host.
The worst part of this is I can’t even migrate the files from our backend to another web host as the entire server has been inaccessible for days, so we’re kind of stuck until things are back online.
When will that be? At this point, I don’t know. It could be later today, tomorrow, or next week. It could be longer, although I can’t imagine the host can sustain keeping their customers around with that amount of time down.
In the meantime, I’ll be looking to see if I can transfer to a different host as soon as things come back. However, if things remain stable, we’ll see. I’d rather not have any more interruptions like this while we start preparing for GOTY stuff in a few weeks.
The good news is we’ll have plenty of new content going up once we’re back, and we’ve got some neat stuff planned for December (giveaways and all). Hope to see you all again soon!
