So as my durgetash brainrot has evolved, I’ve swapped my opinion on which of them I think is the “fancy/fussy” one and which one is kind of more naturally “messy.”

Durge is a serial killer who as the head of the church of Bhaal would be loaded. Sure, he spends a lot of time in the sewer, but he also probably has a vested interest in everyone who comes within 3 yards of him not being immediately aware of that fact if he spends any time out and about in Baldur’s Gate, which I think he would/does. He also sees himself as nobility/royalty/divine, so it would seem logical for him to want to present himself that way too. If nothing else than to hide the reality of the bloodthirsty slayer within.

Gortash on the other hand is a literal peasant who is trying to claw his way into high society; he would want to know how to behave and move in those circles, but it wouldn’t necessarily come naturally to him. The way he dresses honestly supports this. The gaudy gold filigree all over everything screams new rich, and without someone (Durge?) to remind him to shave and comb his damn hair, he clearly uh… deprioritises this.

Also I simply have a soft spot for the very fancy but incredibly repressed/uptight sociopath trope, which I think suits an unhinged Durge doing his best to keep control of himself quite well. And Gortash actually being the uncultured one who has no idea what the four different sized forks on his place setting are for is much funnier to me. He’s smart, I’m sure he could/does learn and can charm the pants off of people (cough Lady Jannath) but he would definitely have to put effort in to get there, and I’m not sure it’s something he finds interesting in its own right tbh.

I sort of like the idea of their early dynamic being one where Enver is drawn to Durge partly because he has already fit himself into that world he so desires to conquer. It makes the alliance make even more sense to me.

#Durge for sure #Lorelai is a master seductress but meeting someone who matches her freak was a new and exhilirating experiance #plus he showed respect and admiration for her talents so that's a plus #Enver really just like the idea of conquering a demigod at first #but then he saw she was hot AND capable of thinking outside the box instead of just being a bloodthirsty killer like he expected

When parted there are times when she's just overcome with it. A smile, a laugh, that sweet glisten in her eye - suddenly all hits in the best way. It's happening here as she smiles to herself, thinking about him as she always does when he isn't physically there with her; with love, with gratitude, with immense need. But more importantly with the ever evolving realization of the most base thing - just how lucky she is to have him in the first place.

Knew it all the time of course, and yet the fact would freshly rebirth itself just so she could admire it once again. To appreciate everything they share; a beautiful thing to cling to when she can't cling to him.

love when an absolute nightmare of a character is introduced and all you can think is "jesus christ buddy what the hell is your problem" and the narrative gives you a hot minute to stew before explaining Exactly what is Their Problem. and you just sorta sit back in your metaphorical rocking chair and think "huh. yeah okay fair. that would do this to a person, yes."

he would not fucking say that, but with disability.. he would not fucking be able bodied. sick n tired of characters walking away from multiple life changing injuries without a scratch. let’s get some natural consequences in here.

give that knife/sword fight survivor nerve damage. give the character who was shot in the gut a stoma. give that fire survivor lung damage and an oxygen cannula. give that leg injury survivor a cane. give that starvation survivor gastroparesis. give that spinal injury survivor a manual chair or powerchair.

while we’re at it, give your characters congenital disabilities too, just because. give them intellectual and development disabilities. give them acquired and postviral illnesses. dare to make somebody bedbound. for me.
