Time to infodump about my hobby.

Kyudo is a very popular sport at the high school and college level. Popular enough to have a sports anime about it. The collegiate level is a sport of accuracy- hit the target with good-ish form, but hitting the target is the important thing.

There are also traditional schools of Kyudo that value the form- proper form leads to consistent shots, leads to hitting the target.

Toshiro Mifune was a practitioner of one of those schools, specifically Takeda Ryu. He did yabusame, which is traditional horseback archery. I don't think I have to explain how good you have to be to hit targets with a 6ft long bow on a moving horse.

Now put that man against college students who are used to standing still and shooting at a stationary target.

This is the kyudo equivalent of Gordon Ramsey in Kitchen Nightmares.
