Two Fishy Lads.

I love the dichotomy between these two. Calamus looks… uninterested (I imagine Alula was so proud of his big catch that she asked to take a photo, but Calamus only begrudgingly approved), while Aqua looks frantic. He can’t be… excited? That’s not a big enough fish to be elated by. Also, the value contrast. Dark vs. light. Also one feels more technically proficient, yet lacks as much substance as the simpler one. Both of these were very fun to draw, though. I love drawing the glenfolk. And Aqua’s hair is fun to draw. I drew it like a wave cascading, and now I wonder if anyone has ever noticed that? Oh my goodness gracious KPop Demon Hunters is so wonderful. It is. I love how it teaches both the lessons of don’t be ashamed of who you actually are, as well as just because you’ve done wrong in the past does not mean you’re completely unable to change, dealing with both intrinsic and extrinsic shame at the same time. And that soundtrack?! Get that to the Grammys. Every song goes amazingly hard. I originally dismissed it because the title was so weird, why are you so self-descriptive? But now I actually regret not watching it sooner. No wonder they’re climbing the charts. Only question now is… will Golden beat Ordinary before the hype quells?

Anyway, that’s all. Like I had mentioned last year, the school season is in full force next week, for all ages. Good luck, y’all! I need the luck too…

Birds of a feather, we should stick together! Oh no, we're going down...

Aren't they so cute together? I've been trying out Krita for a bit and I like it, but it's unclear if that's just the novelty talking.

I don't really have much to say regarding this piece, if I'm going to be honest. I've had this idea for a while, but hadn't executed it until now. It is very adorable, and I'm completely happy with the results. Also this is the first time (I think) I've done a colored drawing of Calamus. I love their names, btw. One of my favorite things about this one, honestly, is the shading and the form of the clothing.

Also, here's the sketch for funsies.

Very different, ey? Here's where things actually get interesting. Spot the differences! One, I moved Calamus's legs up because I thought his torso was too long. I also changed the head shape of both of them as, from reviewing the references, their head shape is much more in line with a typical human skull than the previously assumed circle.

I miss them. I remember reading this one post about how hard it is to finish a game, because you can always replay, but the characters will always say the same things all the time, never changing, which sucks even more in the case of OneShot, because they sell you on the fact that these people USED TO exist. That makes replaying it hurt even more, or even just regular playing it after the reveal. OneShot made me feel a lot of things.

Anyway, story time. This art was inspired by two songs, both Swiftian. The light is representative of marjorie, a song reminiscing on a deceased loved one, and how their presence is still felt long after their death. Of course, Niko is not dead, but does Niko’s mother know that? The other is, fittingly, The Prophecy. where Swift begs for a change in how events must unfold. In this case, though Niko (from what I remember) never explicitly says they do not want to be the savior, there are extremely low points in which, you would imagine, they would like to give up.

It’s a simple composition, really, but I think it’s quite beautiful. I’m biased, of course. Also, more figures! But… I did kinda cheat, but take a guess how. I’m trying my best over here.

“Is not having fingers also part of your style?” “No, I’m just bad at drawing hands.” See if any of y’all get that reference!

I’m drawing a lot more OneShot after learning the basics of figure drawing. See, I knew figure drawing would do so much for me! This was exactly my problem a while back, because I wanted to draw the characters but they were all humans! Maybe I’ll get around to doing Persona…

Humanoids, yay!

Good assortment, methinks. I’m very happy with how some of these came out. I just finished a drawing class at my local community college, so I thought I’d do a bit more drawing. Kip was probably the hardest. There are barely any official renders of her, especially from the side. The mouth was big trouble. Also, I tried doing Calamus, but the references were not referencing.

I think I’m getting better. I hope I am, at least. It’s hard to know because I never drew humans much until now, so I have barely a reference point for how well I’m doing.

Niko looks pretty good though. No, really good, They’re so cute… and they’re happy to be home. The hand leading them looks a bit… hmm… though. I’m bad at hands. Notice how every image doesn’t have hands in them?

so i’ve gotten back into undertale/deltarune, and thought, it’s been long enough, let’s play undertale yellow.

a mix of completion here. Particularly like the fully rendered one. Also brought in some glenfolk (is that the term???).

also, if you’ve never watched my OneShot streams, you may be wondering why I’m associating him with Magpie. Well, during my streams, I gave Magpie a distinctive Southern accent. Why? I don’t remember. Maybe I’ll check the VODs to find out. Anyway, that’s why. I’m also making use of some headcanons that stem from almost nothing (glenfolk eat fish whole as a snack, magpie got his accent from westerns (at least i think that’s what the genre is called)).

It was fun drawing him. Couldn’t figure out how to draw a slouched sitting position well, though. Hmm… Also, I have not finished the game yet, so hopefully he isn’t acting out of character or nothing. I’ve only gotten one pass of his character, so, I might not be representing him completely accurately…

Look at all the Nikos! I keep forgetting that they have whiskers, though... darn it. Either way, I love the ones with the Kirby and Magolor, whiskers or not. Y'know, the funny thing is, I only got back into OneShot (I played it for a brief time in 2023 before thinking it was too eerie lol) because it was the featured article on Wikipedia a few months back. Thank you Wikipedia. I would have never fell in love with this game without you.

Also, probably the final Niko sketch of the year, which I'll probably render tonight or tomorrow, is this one.

Cute, aren't they? There's more to this sketch... but not yet. This is actually for my Art Appreciation class!

God I love all of these so much. I know they're not compositionally complex, but I still love them a lot. When I feel really down about my art, I really try to remember that 10-year-old me would be SO jealous of my art right now. Like, nauseous and stuff. I mean, that's what I do now when I see really good art, whether or not it was meant to make me feel that way. Ah, how I haven't grown. Enough about nausea. I love drawing a reasonable amount, it's a great hobby. Hopefully in 2025 I can add the other person that was supposed to go in the Niko pancake sketch.

Drawing is hard but it feels so good to be rewarded by something you can look at. Y'know that feeling, where like you like at your art and are like "I made that? What the hell?" Yeah I felt that way every time I finished one of these. Thank you, if you've been following me, for sticking around to look at my art! It's nice to know that people care about this kind of thing as much as I do.

Next year... god I hope I don't throw away my shot.

I hope to see you all on New Year's Eve for a final 2024 post... don't expect any art though... kinda swamped with class work...

Cedric and Proto (revised version)

ACK THESE GUYS ARE SO COOL!!!! Also, I don’t think I mentioned it, but I finished OneShot a while ago… I’m devastated. No spoilers… but man… I love that game so damn much. I would give anything to play it again.

I’m so obsessed with this drawing, but to be fair, I love every half-decent drawing I make. Honestly, I should’ve revised it before posting the original post, but here’s a revised version of it!

I like the new background color, definitely. It makes it feels more like a space (albeit a photo studio) compared to the almost pure white background last time (jsyk there WAS color, but you can barely tell since I pushed it so close to white.) Also, I quite like the shading, gives it form, which I guess is the point of shading. I digress.

I originally was just going to do Cedric, but that felt lame, so I did both of them. The first sketch of Proro SUCKED. Like, remember that first sketch of Niko without reference? Yeah, about that sucky. It got better when I finally looked at a reference, though. It's just... looking at good art that I didn't make makes me throw up. That sounds narcissistic, I know, but it's because I think my art is bad, not because my art is better. It’s hard to look at references ‘cause of that. It SUCKSSSSSSSSS. SO BAD. Like I literally get nauseous when I look at art online. Not figurative literally. Like… wtf why am i reacting like this it’s a damn photo of niko. anyway that’s my problem.

It’s Cedric and Proto! I wanted to do a few sketches of some characters I don’t normally draw (tbh i don’t draw any of them besides niko), so I decided these two are cute enough to do now. God it’s fun to draw when it works out well. No panic attacks this drawing session! The heights are probably off… and they might be a bit off-model… but I think Proto would be taller. And I like to think Cedric wears jeans.

Anyway, these two are so cool. One’s an engineer at the age of… 10? 12? 15? I dunno. I like to think he’s some sort of gifted child. And British. Just by the way he calls his father “father” and not dad or something. Also that was the voice I gave him in my playthrough. Anyway, Proto can do volume measurements conversions just like that! So cool. Both of them.

Anyway, do not expect any character that has normal human proportions (Silver, Lamplighter, Kip, George, the Author) to ever be posted here within the next 6 months. They’re too human… they got like… jawlines and stuff. Also, why no Rue? I can’t do animals. Or can I? I’ll give it a go in a week maybe. But I’ve got a bunch of work piling up and I better do it.

Also… I’ve never talked about this, but Persona music? BANGERS. Especially Persona 3. This is what my On Repeat looked like a few weeks ago.

Cyan is P3. It took up 20% of my most listened to songs at the time. Persona 3’s music slaps, especially the ones above.

my county just finished counting most of their ballots and my fucking city kept all its incumbents (except for 1 but they’re not the one i wanted). THE MARGINS WERE SO FUCKING TIGHT TOO! this sucks. but this is the consequence of not using my voice. i didn’t help canvass, i didn’t spread the word, i had family who live in the area and i said nothing.

There’s something to be learned from Legally Blonde 2. You have to use your voice. I cared so much about neutrality that I didn’t stop to realize that I’m going against my own principles. If you see an injustice happening, speak up! And as Elle Woods herself says, “One honest voice can be louder than a crowd … if we lose our voice, or if we let those that speak on our behalf compromise our voice, well, then, this country, this country is in for a really bad haircut.” I forgot to speak up. And now I’m going to pay for it. So, if you’re reading this and are unhappy with the election results, but you didn’t vote, next time, I implore you to speak up. For yourself, for your city, for your nation.

“Speak up!”

And even if you don’t have a friendly city council, make an effort to show up to meetings, speak out against things that don’t work. A lot of the time, council meeting are full of conservative NIMBY retirees who can actually make time to go. But if you can, take a day off, send a letter in, make your voice heard! Does it guarantee change? No, but it’s better than nothing. Nothing will change if you wait idly by for it to. I learned my lesson this election season, don’t let yourself make the mistake of not showing up.

Sorry for calling out all the conservative NIMBY retirees out there, but this applies to you too! No matter how much I disagree, you should still use your voice.

I know my rule is that I need to put some sort of drawing here, but I’m making an exception for this.
