Hihiii this is my intro post to all the cool people on tumblr!

I am Gamma, a failed angel fujoshi vtuber who loves to draw, sing, and talk about BL! I primarily stream on Twitch on my days off from retail hell. All art posted here will be stuff I drew myself or commissioned of my vtuber model. I am currently writing my own visual novel and Kanon was my first introduction to VNs uguuu~

A couple facts to get to know me: 1. My pronouns are they/them though I don't mind too much if a she is thrown in there because I hear it all the time at work.

2. I accidentally drank detergent at a laundromat and I will never live that down.

3. I love old moe artstyles and heisei retro fashion and aesthetics! I love meeting people who are into those things as well. 4. I used to be somewhat of a popular artist in a certain fandom here but was kicked out due to rejecting the advances of a fan translator :(

5. I have spent almost $2000 on art books alone over the years and have a very big collection! 6. I cannot beat touhou on easy mode. Lastly, I am making a Discord server for my community very soon and as soon as that's done I will link it on this post!

Umigari: The Potential Game Pt. 1

So I recently finished Umigari on stream and I have some thoughts on it! Spoilers will be included so if you haven't finished the game please come back after you have. Now I love fishing games and I love horror, so the fishing horror genre really speaks to my soul. Umigari tosses you into a world that just feels vaguely off at first in a sandy island surrounded by torii gates and other islands. There's torii gates you need to pass through to reach other islands and an umibozu, a malevolent sea spirit, that chases you unless you hit the bells on the buoys. The gates feel other worldly and add to the strange atmosphere in the game. The bells might seem like a random choice, but in a lot of cultures the sound of them ward off evil. When starting Umigari I really liked the open world feel, the Silent Hill F vibes, the question of is everything in the game metaphoric for a much larger message. There was a strong message in the school area in regards to bullying and teenage cruelty towards others and animals but afterwards the messages started to get a bit muddy. I kept wondering what this game was all leading to. There was a lady who loved a shark man and asked us to kill the octopus girl. We could not choose to do otherwise, I was thinking maybe it showed that we could not ultimately escape our own inherent cruelty. The man turned back into a shark and now knowing the ending I wondered if he turned back because he fully gained human emotions? It doesn't really make sense. The npcs in the final region also don't make much sense or really say anything about the world. My favorite NPC in the entire game is the robot looking guy with an extremely sensual voice who goes "konkura. However, I have to admit his design doesn't fit with the overall world. It's never explained or implied as to why he's mechanical or missing his jaw, he's just there to give us a fetch quest and look pretty. In contrast, the npcs in the earlier areas felt like commentary on something even if the commentary wasn't too good. In regards to other npcs like the whale god's daughter, I just wish that she was more present in the game. It just felt like she showed up in the first and then final section and that was it. If she's the daughter of a god, surely she would have some sort of powers? Something to set her aside from other npcs? It would've been nice to see. There are also no patterns when it comes to the fish holding the tablets, like are they human? Are they gods? If they were human, then what makes them so different from the other fish? The more I think of the game, the less sense it makes. I don't think every game needs a poignant message, but it seems like that's what Umigari was trying to be until I reached the ending and it threw that all out the window.

The ending of Umigari left a lot to be desired. The ultimate message of the game felt weird. Option 1 is to reverse the curse so all humans revert to their forms, but if you go in that direction everyone just...dies? Everyone does turn back but they were in the water so they drown leading to the "bad end". Option 1 is what happens when you decide that all humans are evil, but the choice doesn't make sense!! Why reverse the curse if humans will continue to be evil. Option 2 is what happens when you decide that humans aren't evil so you decide that the logical option is to give the fish turned humans the ability to think and feel. It feels like the options should've been reversed for the dialogue options. The ending sequence for the "good" option just felt...bizarre. There's a bunch of recurring npcs, aside from my favorite one in the ending sequence and the lady who asked us to kill the octopus has a big fat smile on her face. There's also the reverse mermaid just throwing it back which just makes the whole thing comedic. If I had taken Umigari as a comedy, I wouldn't have been so disappointed. The "good" ending just makes me think "huh wouldn't the cycle of humans destroying the ocean just be repeated?". Humans need to eat, the sea is full of food. They even emulated the human economy using yen for transactions instead of something like shells. What will stop the fish humans from not making the same mistakes? Overall, the ending left me dissatisfied. Now for the positives, I did really enjoy the art direction, the grotesque human fish creatures, the excitement of seeing what other creatures there were in other regions, and the atmosphere of the game which was very dream-like. It gave me a very Death Mark like feeling, which I love because I do like folklore based horror. That being said, I had a lot of issues with the gameplay. There were hardly any tutorials and it wasn't very intuitive. I didn't even know about fast travel until mid game, I didn't know about the boost, I repeated a section multiple times with the octopus lady because I didn't know that the bells were in the box right next to her. Even though I completed it, I had to redo it to trigger the option to open it. Same thing in the last 3 bells needed, every time I opened the game I would have to talk to the shop keeper to set them up even though i had done this dialogue multiple times. The difficulty jump in the final region was also crazy. The fish needed for the fetch quests were unreasonably hard to catch, particularly with the oarfish, that alone took me almost an hour off stream to beat. That difficulty made the final battle with the pink shark so anti climatic. It was pretty easy to get the final tablet in comparison to the oarfish. I put off facing the shark out of fear it would be an even greater difficulty jump, but I was worried over nothing I guess!

That's pretty much it. I rate Umigari a solid 5/10.
