â WHAT DID SMOKEY EVER DO TO YOU HUH
breidabloomâ:
There is so much he could say to her, right here, right now. He shouldnât be stoking the fireâhe should be making apologies to her, backing away, finding someone else to help him. He should be ending the interaction, especially considering he knows how hard people who serve those to whom they are loyal can take their liegesâ passings, and having maybe a little sympathy for her.
Heâs never been good at backing down from people who torment others.
âYour liege,â he hisses, glaring back up at her, âwas a thief and a bully. She stole a little girl from her homeland, lied to her about their relationship, and tortured her by killing her over and over again in order to gain power. And for what? Was the land of the dead in danger? Was it under attack? Why did she go about doing what she didâand donât tell me it was because she was doing her part as the goddess of death! Correct me if Iâm wrong, but the way I see it, she was a power-hungry ruler, and even worse, a terrible excuse for a mother. And do you know what? Last I heard, Eir still felt love for her! Her abuser! Can you not see how wrong that is? Can you not feel even a little bit of compassion for the girl who was torn between a worthless foster mother and the friends she made but was meant to betray?â
Huffing, he steps back and crosses his arms, previous good mood having evaporated. It had been fitting, and kind of freeing, wielding the scythe back in Askr, a triumph not just over Hel, but her. Seeing it back in Ganglötâs hands takes him back to that whole awful mess at the beginning of his life, as if she was telling him all the way back from home that he couldnât keep winning for long. Shoving down his first instinct (âFine, you can keep your stupid scythe!â), he sighs and runs a hand through his hair, debating how to answer the question of what heâs doing down here.
âOkay, look. Itâs clear we hate each otherâs guts. I was trying to find someone who could do the Cooking Clubâs silly little bear hunt with me, but I doubt weâre gonna be able to work well togetherâunless you want to let off some steam and swing around your scythe, preferably around something more acceptable than me. If youâre okay with that, fine, I can work with you so long as we call a mutual truce for the time being. If not, Iâll leave and find someone else to hunt the bear with. As for the whole âwielding your scytheâ thing, I was able to do so back home because I summoned you and used Breidablik to copy it. I canât use it here, however, so you donât need to worry about such a thing happening.â
The ravenette suspects sheâll say âno,â because who in their right mind would associate with the person who killed their liege? Besides, if all theyâre going to do is continuously set each other off, itâd be better for them to go their separate ways.
He still owes her the choice, though. He owes it to all his Heroes, even the ones he hates.
The boy protests, spins a yarn about how her lady Hel was some sort of villain.Â
It is an expected reaction. Honestly, Ganglöt would have been surprised if he didnât try and argue. He is wrong, of course. But Ganglöt is silent. She does not defend her liege; what would be the point of such chatter? There will be no getting through to the likes of the Summoner, these self-righteous, holier-than-thou idiots who believe that the path they march and the banner they hold is the right one, the only one.Â
Ganglöt spits at Roseâs feet. âDo not speak on things you do not understand. How could you? You would never know the plight of the Helians, nor have you ever brought yourself to care; what Lady Hel did, she did for us.â
She observes him through a cold stare and heavy lidded eyes. âI do not need to let off some steam. You think you have angered me somehow? âŠyou mortals can be so presumptuous.â Slinging Helâs Reaper over shoulder, well out of the reach of Rose, she heaves a sigh. She doesnât quite understand the power of the Summonerâs Breidablik and this so-called ability to âcreate copies,â but she would rather not take any chances. â...what is this you came down to Abyss for? To search for help to hunt a bear?â
Ganglöt is silent for a moment, the inkling of a scheme brewing at the base of her skull. The Askrans arenât here⊠from what she has seen, at least.
âIâll accompany you. Best I do before you run into its claws and get yourself killed; the last thing I want is the church to ask why I let you get yourself mauledâŠâ
â what did smokey ever do to you huh
Ironically, this monthâs mishaps spurred a greater interest in the other countries and continents beyond FĂłdlan, with more and more students eagerly learning what they can about them. The Cooking Club, with their hands on an Ylissean cookbook, is putting out calls for some brave idiot to go and hunt a bear for a Ylissean-style roast. [Grants Axe +1]
Oh wordie, they actually believe bear roast is an actual part of Ylissean cooking!
The raven-haired teen can't stop muffling his snickers every time he passes by the bulletin board and sees the Cooking Club's flyer proclaiming "Want a taste of Ylissean cuisine? Hunt us a bear and we'll cook up a lovely roast recipe originating from the halidom itself!" Geez, Chrom must be so embarrassed right about now, but Rose doubts the poor guy's actually about to go up to the Cooking Club and disabuse them of their notions. He wonders who was responsible for the "recipe" making it into that cookbookâor if the cookbook is even legitimate in the first place. (It wouldn't surprise him if it weren't, but probably only the Ylissean prince and the others from his nation will be able to tell... on the other hand, maybe not.)
Still, he could do for a nice li'l warmup after getting here. He hasn't really gathered any playmates buddies yet, and anyhoo, wouldn't it be more fun to hunt a bear with someone else? Just in case, of course; after all, he might be able to help fend ThĂłrr's assaults off whenever they come around, but that doesn't exemplify every kind of battle now, does it. So the small teen wanders around looking for a nice, capable fighter who'd be able to back a rookie like him up. He even goes down to Abyss to check and see if anyone wants a break in the sunlight. Eventually he spots a figure in the distance, an elegant woman in black and purple and carrying...
... wait.
Is thatâArcane Downfall?!
Now, the logical part of Rose knows that the weapon does not, in fact, belong to him, but to someone else. A very specific someone else, that he himself summoned, whom he was told had been returned the weapon. The emotional, childish part of Rose looks at the woman and sees his weapon in her hands. And is so infuriated that he forgets himself and the presences of everyone else around him and actually screams.
"HEYYYYYYYY! GANGLĂĂĂĂT!! GIMME BACK MY SCYTHE!!"
starter for @ganglotte
The setting of Hel is a hard one to replicate, though Ganglöt finds that the underground confines of Abyss do enough to make her comfortable in this foreign land.Â
Where others would leap at the shadows cast upon the dusty stone floors, Ganglöt finds comfort in the concealment the darkness brings. There is a certain tranquility beneath the earth, a place where interlopers from the surface hardly dared to step down to. She relishes in the quiet, free to ignore whatever requests the Church laid upon the denizens of the monastery. Here, she is free to continue her pursuit of vengeance, her pursuit of Eir. Seiros officials hardly made an effort to visit those they had condemned to life underground â not unless they were desperate for help, as the last moon had proved.
Arcane Downfall rests at her side as it always is. The Abyss may be quiet, but in its shadows lurk a number of criminals, many of whom prowl the streets looking for quick coin. While her appearance is typically enough to ensure not a soul dared to approach her, the scythe in her hand seals the idea that she is not a woman to be crossed, or even spoken to.
Alas, not it seems as though there are exceptions to this idea. Abyssâs blissful silence is broken by the irritable screaming of a child daring to address Ganglöt. She recognizes him, unfortunately â even in the dim firelight, the white and gold cloak denoting Askrâs Summoner is visible and distinctive. The sound of his voice grates against her ears; it takes her a moment to understand what he is yelling about.
Within the blink of an eye, the curved blade of Arcane Downfall settles beneath Roseâs chin. Ganglötâs eyes are narrow, black lips twisted into a sneer.
â... your scythe?â Her tone is quiet, voice low. Her anger does not just seem to drip from her words, but radiate from her entire body. âWhat is this delusional idea you voice before me? You, wielding Helâs Reaper?â
Her grip on Arcane Downfall tightens, the claws of her gauntlets digging into her palms.
âSurely, you jest. Has Askrâs beloved Summoner, its hero of light, finally lost his mind?â A mirthless laugh wrenches itself from the handmaid. âDo you truly think I would ever let my liegeâs killer wield her scythe, the symbol of her realm?â
Ganglöt tilts up Roseâs chin with the flat of her blade. âI am the queen of Hel, now, boy. I am her successor, and I wield her Reaper. What business do you have with me? Speak, or I will gut you here. Neither your prince or princess or any of your precious heroes will help you down here, in this abyssal darkness. Do you understand? I will kill you, Summoner. And I will add your bones to my throne.â
reason to live â team village finale ( team two )
unsungbladeâ:
Weighing heavy as fog and permeating every molecule of air in much the same manner, the godâs grief rises to a fever pitch of desperationâtorn between wailing for her lost child and begging not to be left alone as escape is nearly, finally within their reach. So consumed by regret that it is on deaf ears their words ultimately fall, rebuffed by the depths of her misery in antithesis to the very hope she longs for. And finally, a tangible form come to light with the ascent of a grotesque mass upon the mountain, watching with dead, gray eyes set into the amalgamation of flesh and hair and bone. Planted firmly as the final obstacle in their path lest they simply walk away.
Kris is far from a heartless man. He is well familiar with the pain of losing loved onesâfinding it increasingly difficult to recall the sternness with which an aged knight had imparted his lessons, the few and fleeting exchanges of affection between grandfather and grandson. Hers is a tragedy he should rightly sympathize with, and he does. But to drown in those feelings, unwilling to face the future for fear of letting go of the past⊠That is not living. If she cannot see that, and the time for words has passedâ
âthen all they can do is fight for their freedom.
Kris attacks Electra with the Sword of Zoltan. Roll: 17+12 = 29. Critical hit! Electra suffers 12 damage. [Status: 1/25 HP] Electra counters with Purifying Flame. Krisâs Dazzle activates! Roll: 9-20 = -11. Miss!
Shining steel cleaves through the tangle of gnarled limbs with all the ease of a knife through butter, a deadly dance meant to grant her suffering a swift and merciful end. With no mother to have ever called his own Kris cannot claim to understand what she had felt then, still feels even now. Glimpsing the malformed reincarnation of Arke however, given life anew by means of an unholy miracle, he can at least believe it kinder to spare her the horror of watching her daughter die a second time.
Electra wails, caught in the crossroads of lament and agony; flame sparks to life only to sputter out quickly as itâd come. âIf you truly canât bear to move on, then at the very least you deserve some kind of peace. No wound should have to hurt for forever like this.â
The mother weeps for her daughter, and she returns a monster.
An odd feeling settles in Ganglötâs chest as the tragedy unfolds before them, a sense of familiarity lodging in the bones of her ribs. It weighs her down; she drags the blade of her scythe across the earth, advancing towards the heart of the fight. Her steps are slow, mind elsewhere, the din of battle fading into the distance. Electra cannot ââ will not ââ let go of Arke, though the girl is long gone, for the beast before them is not Arke, and will never be Arke, no matter how much Electra cries.
But Ganglöt understands Electra, why she clings onto this phantom of her daughter. The daughter is all the mother has â what is she without her? Her grip on Helâs Reaper tightens. It does not matter, though. Death comes for all â there is no stopping manâs march towards the inevitable. No matter when she comes, her decree is absolute: there is no return from death. No running, no hiding.
It is her duty, then, to free the two of them. Her steps quicken, and the sounds of battle return to focus. Ganglöt is not Eir â she is no merciful death. But here, the bite of her blade into Electraâs neck would be exactly that: a kindness, an act of mercy. They would not be happy here, the mother and daughter. All they would know in life, as long as they continued to live, is agony and longing.
ROLL 1d20+2. 10 ... HIT! -2 HP + 1.5 HP = 3 HP. ELECTRA HAS 0 / 25 HP REMAINING. ELECTRA HAS BEEN DEFEATED! GANGLĂT HEALS 2 HP. GANGLĂT HAS 12 / 12 HP REMAINING.
    âRest.â
Arcane Downfall swings in a wide arc, the sharp curve of its wicked blade granting Electra soft respite.

cleversteelâ:
Colm had climbed up very few mountains in his 17 years of living, but last time he had, it hadnât been that bad!
So, when the ground was far too suffocating for his tastes, he decided to climb the huge mountain range â at least if he wound up back where he started, itâd be at a different altitude. (And besides, he was curious! Surely whatever was up here couldnât be that bad, could it?)
(d3: 2. COLM HP: 7/10)
It took forever to finally reach a place worthy of being called a pit stop, but that didnât change the fact that just climbing made him feel ill. It had been nowhere near this bad last time â was this just that goddess lady being petty or something?
(It has to be â thereâs no other explanation!)
The space levels off a bit, giving way to an open clearing. Bits of chalkos flicker in and out of existence, and it honestly looked kinda prettyâ. Still, Colm stays focused, and after watching for a bit to see how itâs done, he aims for some chalkos of his own.
COLM approaches CHALKOS with THE INTENT TO STEAL! (d20 + 0 = 5. FAIL!)
COLM HP: 4.5/10
Okay, so new discovery: chalkos HURTS. The boy had been quick to dive at it, but at the moment of impact, it justâ well, it exploded.
He sits up, adjusting to the new ringing in his ears. Then, after a moment of pause, he stands, declaring:
âOwâŠâ
@ganglotteâ !
ROLLED 1d3. -1HP GANGLĂT HAS 9/12 HP
Pain cuts through Ganglöt with each step she takes up the mountain, phantom aches tormenting her as she strains to make the trek. She feels lightheaded, and thereâs a numbness in her fingers; the sensation brings back memories of drifting along a slow, ice-cold current among unmoving bodies. She grits her teeth and forces her legs to move. She will make it out of this hell. For once, she finds herself grateful for company.
The journey does not seem easy for any of them â perhaps because she is undead, Ganglöt does not feel their weariness as deeply as they do. She can sense it; there is death in the air. If they are not careful, they will surely die on this journey up the mountain. As much as she relishes in it, she would rather not witness the deaths of anyone on this mission. There is enough for them to deal with, and Ganglöt has no interest in dying again. The butt of Arcane Downfall strikes the stone beneath her feet with every step she takes, providing a sort of support as she makes the trek.Â
Chalkos blinks in and out of existence as they continue up their path. Hubert pauses to collect the ore, but as he bent to grab it, it exploded in his hands. Dimitri also gives it a hand, worry in his voice, but the ore also explodes in his face. Even his horse recoils a bit. Colm, swift-footed and quick-handed, also fails to collect any of the ore.
ROLLED 1d20. 12 +3 CHALKOS
Ganglöt stoops at a particularly glittering piece of chalkos and sweeps it up into her hands. â...will this be enough? Or would you like to stay here and continue to try your luck at being blinded?â

higaneionâ:
From one day to the next, there is an unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach. Despite the flowing stream in front of them to ease their mind she cannot shake the feeling. Peace can only exist in this strained environment where they were being watched. In some way, she accepted this being to watch over them, but it was an inevitable kind of acceptance. Not so far from that of the event she had witnessed. Though sheâs seen it happen in some twisted timeline, this time she was sure there was no bringing the girl back from her fate.
Lilina has not ventured in the water yet, but she imagines it will be shockingly cold when she does despite the warm air that surrounds them. She forces a much more lighthearted memory to spring to mind stifling any tears that may threaten to leave her. Though she wouldnât skip any pebbles out of necessity for resources, she recalls a time when she would do so after lessons with her dearest friend ( at least, she thinks those memories still belong to her ). It is cut short when movement is in her peripheral.Â
âUm, KrisâŠ?â She recalls his name in something of a hush. âWonât you get cold?â she wants to ask. Her gaze flickers to where his shirt was, heat begins to rise from her chest to her ears, and she must force herself to look elsewhere. There was no polite way of addressing so instead, she settles in abandoning the topic completely, ââŠN-Never mind.â Quickly ducking her head, she focuses her attention on removing her socks and boots so she may also wade in the water.Â
The heat doesnât leave her, however. It is a different kind of nervous when she looks to her other company. She has always felt intimidated by her presence, be it that she was unfamiliar or her icy cold gaze at everything. Despite it all, she musters a kind expression, a timid and cautious smile. âDo⊠you have anything to sift the rocks with?â She looks to the flowing water now, âor maybe weâll get lucky and find stone large enough to have no need for oneâŠâ She almost offered her own cape for Ganglöt to use if she had none, but the words stay on her tongue. Perhaps she would never see it again if she did.
@ganglotte
Ganglöt stands by the riverbank, the water rushing past her, staring up into the endless black.
The presence of the goddess is all around them, bearing down upon them incessantly. It is almost familiar, her omnipresence. Painfully, it reminds Ganglöt of another â but that woman is long gone, a soul that had disappeared long into the mist.
Ganglöt lowers her gaze as Lilina speaks, the girlâs voice bringing her back to the present. This goddess is not Hel, no matter how badly Ganglöt wishes her to be. She walks down the river towards Kris and Lilina, expression neutral. There is no use in reminiscing, in wanting â it will not save her from this unfamiliar land. It is strange, though: the aching in her chest persists no matter what she tells herself. Perhaps it is because the everlasting darkness reminds her of the blackness of Hel and its endless night. Or is it because of what she had witnessed earlier, the girl falling onto the rocks? No â death had never scared her so. But the girl⊠she was so familiar⊠there was a bond between her and the broken body, something almost maternalâŠ
Gritting her teeth, she forces herself to step into the current, slowly wading her way down to where the other two stood. She no longer desires the company of others, but grudgingly admits that working together is the only way to get them out of this dream swiftly. At Lilinaâs bashfulness, Ganglöt almost laughs.
âCome now, girl, surely youâve seen more shocking things than a manâs bare chest.â A thin smile pulls at the handmaidenâs lips as she bends down to search the riverbed for stones. â...there is no need. Here, see? Where the water rushes, the stones are large and smooth. Come, hold these.â
ROLL 2d4. 6 STONE + 1 CHALKOS
@unsungblade
do you believe in love?
Mission Task: Chalkos? The god is no mage, she tells you. That said, she is emotional, and the emotions stirred from holding Edelgard and listening to your requests occasionally causes chunks of Chalkos to fall from the sky. You may have to play with her emotions. Grants 4d4 Chalkos.
If they want anything, they must ask for it from this godlike being. She creates entire worlds and things into being out of nothing but her own will. But at the same time, she is very emotional, heâs noticed. She cradles Edelgard like a baby, unwilling to be parted from her. Mothers are extremely emotional people, perhaps even more than himself, if his experience with Lady Almedha and now this divine being were anything to go off of.
Heâs also noticed that when her emotions run high, when some kind of request charged with pathos is swung her way or she even invents some feeling to go with it, chalkos falls from the sky like shooting stars. Explosive but mighty in their potential, this womanâs feelings are equivalent then to this precious ore.
They cannot ask to leave, but they can collect resources still, and this might be the most useful of them all.
He feels bad, knowing what he plans to do, but if itâs the most he can do to help them try and get out of this situationâŠ
( He doesnât even need to ask for anything, he reminds himself. He can just speak freely then and see where that takes him, but he cannot let the conversation stop. )
If he is going to strike at her emotions, then the strongest emotion of all, one so powerful it is written, sung, painted, and acted out on the stage time and time again through milleniaâŠ
â Tell me, do you have any thoughts on love?Â
â S-Sorry, thatâs a weird question for me to just ask out of the blue, isnât it? â Â It is, but heâs not delicate with his words. He slips and slides with them before careening himself off the edge, but perhaps that works in his favor here. Heâll at least try to mask it as more natural though. Â â I think every night of love. Of every facet of it. Its terrors, its joys, all of it. I donât mean to be presumptuous, but Iâm sure you two do as well, yes? â
He hopes either she or the other person heâs with goes along with it. There were so many ways to speak of love, after all! Surely, it was an easy enough topicâŠ?
Ganglöt sits in the grass, her scythe resting by her feet. She turns a piece of chalkos over in her hand; it had simply fallen out of the ether, right into her lap. She looks up at Edelgard, cradled in the goddessâ arms like a babe. The gesture is gentle, maternal.
Silent, she listens to Pelleas ask the goddess of love. The handmaid knows what sort of game he is playing here, what he hopes to gain by waxing on about such a thing. The chalkos that falls from the sky will be of use to them, if they can move her enough to summon it.
Ganglöt turns towards the prince, eyebrow raised. âEvery night, dwelling on something soâŠ?â Her voice trails off. She means to say stupid but cannot bring herself to utter the syllables, to deem love to be something trivial. Had she not, after all, chased after the very thing into death itself?
â...it was love that killed me.â she says after a long silence. âMy mother loved me so much that she lowered me into a river of corpses and left me to drift off to the realm of the dead.âÂ
She raises her gaze. Her story is a tragic one â would it be enough to procure a gift from this goddess?
âI do not care for it. To die for love? Hah! You may as well die for nothing.â

An odd feeling settles within her as she strides down the path towards the woods, Arcane Downfall slung over her shoulder. It is a strange sense of familiarity â the faces of the soldiers gathered in the village⊠Ganglöt thinks she spies a glimpse of silver, a flash of lilac. These sightings fill the handmaiden with a chill, a strong sense of dread. She knows these colors, these faces, those eyes. No â no, she is being ridiculous. She knew no one in life, and those she had met in death are not here. The only person she had ever loved is dead, and she will not, could not, return. Inexplicably, Ganglöt feels alive again â alone and afraid in a vast forest. The urge to cry wells up within her, the syllables of a plea for help upon her tongue.
But you do not scream. No one is coming for you. You were never loved, never wanted. This will be your final resting place: the soil, your grave, the trees, your headstone.
There is another feeling mixed with the strange ones that had arisen in her â it is a deeply familiar one: the swooping sensation of death is near. But who will it take? For once, Ganglöt is not eager to know.
To Ganglötâs surprise, there are already people gathered in the forest once she and her companions arrive. Vaguely, she recognizes them, their faces coming to her as if through a haze: it is the townsfolk, people of the village. They are cold, eyeing them with suspicion, their weapons with fear.Â
âAnd whatâre you lot here for?â snaps one of the villagers, hand hidden within his cloak.
Ganglöt observes him, expressionless. â...what does it appear we are here for?â
âHowâre we to know, walkinâ up in here axes out?â Ganglöt notes how his arm tenses. âLooks like yâall are out lookinâ for trouble, thatâs what it looks like. Take your business somewhere else, we donât want no part in it.â
Death sneers, unslinging her scythe from her shoulder. âStupid. We are here for timber. Take your idiocy someplace else.â
She raises her arms, primed to swing at the tree â until the villager lunges for her, something silver flashing in his hands.

Ecstatic with all good reasonââas this was her typicality in achieving generous donationsââthe songstress extended a hand in truce. To dance.Â
Bereft of grace in his sudden halt of music, Hubert resigns the aged instrument to rest where he once obtained it, saved only by the musician who played yet. Dance, though not an affinity in comparison to other tasks, was a skill he was much more adept in, if only of his own whims and particular needs years prior.Â

A step, one, two, three moreââhow to invite the other gleaming soul into their suffering? A bowââa performance in the end; he loathed it, though it was a necessity in ensuring this endeavorâs produced finances. âDo try not to ridicule us with your idling.â Her earliest attempt, it declared much about her: dance was not a talent of wraiths. âAllow me to lead, and I will save us face.âÂ

Ganglöt watches Dorothea take Hubertâs hand and lead him to dance. She doesnât even spare Ganglöt a glance, but the handmaiden does not think anything of it. Her dancing is atrocious and appearance unnerving. Perhaps it would be better for the lot of them if she went back inside the small home and busied herself with other tasks.
But just as she is about to turn and leave the two to their gallivanting, Hubert approaches her, and speaks. It surprises her for him to approach her so casually, so noiselessly. His expression is unchanged, no grimace or strained smile that betrays the sort of fear Ganglöt is so used to seeing in others when they approach her. Instead, he offers his hand and an invitation to dance.
Ganglöt stares. If she still had blood (or cheeks, for that matter), they wouldâve flushed with indignance. Does he think she means to make a horrible spectacle of herself? That her poor imitation of dancing is somehow purposeful, meant to sabotage? The very idea offends Ganglöt to her bones. But nonetheless, she takes Hubertâs hand, albeit grudgingly. He is right, unfortunately.
She says nothing as Hubert guides her through the steps of a dance. The movements are smoother and more graceful that anything Ganglöt could have dreamt up on her own, and loathe as she is to admit it, he has managed to help her save some face.

In true fashion of what a dream is, their wanderings through the marketplace quickly dissolved into what felt like a slurry of voices, sounds and visuals. Nothing made sense and it felt as if he were falling even though he still felt his feet touching the floor- and the weight of the odd hand on his shoulder. That personâŠ
He had just seen their face, yet his brain failed to memorize its features other than green.Â
The next things the prince noticed were the weight of Areadbhar in his hand, the fact that he was now in what seemed to be a dungeon network of sorts, and finally that he was at the very least accompanied by others- Edelgard and Ganglöt. Not the same people who he had gone to the marketplace with but teammates nonetheless. âIsâŠeveryone okay?â
Dimitri was at a loss as to why Areadbhar was now with him. He could only hope that it was due to weird dream logic and not because a threat was lurking in the shadows. Still though, he marched through the area with his guard up until they reached a chamber with nothing but a tree in its middle.
