Imperiet - Bibel (1987)
my favorite moments from this interview that nobody asked for
"our hearts" and "okej.... "
dare i say it, the most iconic look
Imperiet - Bibel | Daily Live, 1987 [x]
Fun fact: The song was initially banned from radioplay due to the assumption that it was anti-christian. The lyrics however is simply a retelling of Genesis. This video would suggest that the sentiment they were going for was more of a cold war commentary, anti-war message in line with many of their other songs. Beat the drums because Babylon is falling!
Joakim Thåström, 1987

Imperiet - Österns Röda Ros (Live at Ritz 9/11-1988)
"Österns Röda Ros" (Red Rose of the East) was released in 1986 by swedish rock band Imperiet. Written by Joakim Thåström "in solidarity with the suffering of the palestinian people"[x] and described as their "hate song against the state of Israel"[x]. A somewhat accurate translation of the lyrics:
"Where the drought is most severe And the desert is aflame There are truths and lies Lined up in a row Amidst the machine-gun fire of snipers Live people with a dream With barbed wire around the neck Children are nursed with warmth and tenderness But if you know where stars are falling And where the rainbow ends If you still hear your heart beat You shall find the red rose of the east Where steel-birds fly in the night Above those who have fled their land Where the cartographers borders Are drawn in blood-stained sand And the boys who just lay there With open eyes open yet seeing nothing Those who never again will laugh Or kiss a smiling girl
I hear their voices I hear how they scream I know they are there I know they are living So if you know where stars are falling And where the rainbow ends If you still hear your heart beat You shall find the red rose of the east Red rose of the east Red rose of the east..."
say what you want but joakim thåström was absolutely gorgeous. x
