thanks to anon for reminding me of Epic: the Musical! I love Telemachus's relationship with both his parents (I really love OdyPen so, if anything, I'd ship the three of them all together) and, while we don't get too much of the godly relationships, I do enjoy the potential in what we see. most of it is in a single song, called God Games--there are SO many fantastic animatics of the song on youtube. the Epic fandom is epically talented

anyway, Athena wants to save Odysseus (she's his mentor and friend) and asks her dad for help. Zeus gives her a deal: if she can convince some of the other gods, he will do it. The gods in question are Apollo, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Ares, and Hera. it's like a fun little "boss rush"

Apollo really softballs it when it's his turn, and a lot of people think it's implied that he's doing it on purpose because he's rooting for his half-sister to win the "game"

Hephaestus is also fairly easy to win over. also, while looking into their relationship (they're either half-siblings or stepsiblings depending on whether you believe he's Zeus's son or if Hera had him on her own with god magic after Zeus had Athena), I found out that in mythology, Hephaestus is infatuated with Athena. ofc she's one of the virgin goddesses, so he doesn't succeed, but I never knew that! it adds an interesting layer to his verse

then, there's Aphrodite and Ares. I know you ship them, and when Athena is using her power to sway Aphrodite, Ares butts in to protect his lover/[whatever family relation they have; depends on which Aph origin story you prefer]. In some animatics, the two of them fight together, while in others, she's cheering him on.

there's also the fun sibling vibes between Athena and Ares: when he butts in, she reacts like such an exasperated sister. but then later (spoilers, when she faces Zeus) Ares shows concern for her. they might butt heads, but they're both war gods and siblings, and he wants her to be okay. in the end, both he and Aphrodite agree to support Athena

then, Hera! It seems like she and her stepdaughter have a good relationship here. Hera greets her with "hey, baby." And Athena knows just how to get Hera to agree to save Odysseus: "never once has he cheated on his wife." it's Hera's messy relationship with her husband/brother--and her famous frustration with his cheating--that wins her over

then, Athena goes back to tell Zeus she's played his game and won. but Zeus feels shamed--probably because of what she just said to Hera, tbh--and so he lashes out with his thunder in anger. but even when she's hurt, Athena persists in order to save her friend. and of course, Athena is Zeus's favorite child. while he was momentarily mad at her, he loves her dearly. I mean, he literally gave birth to her after all

In most of the animatics, we see her struggling to reach her father and reaching out a hand to him while begging "let him go, please, let him go," and then fainting in his arms. and then, of course he gives her what she wants and agrees to set Odysseus free

It's just a single song, yet there's so much to chew on when it comes to the Olympian family. and plenty of the animatics give us subtle visual details that signify their closeness too. plus. it's too catchy

Thanks for all of these details! I love to see the gods interacting in interesting ways.
