I’ve talked about the parallels between Scrooge’s relationship with Goldie and his relationship with Glomgold a few times before. Quite a few people seemed interested in hearing more, so I’ll try and put out some of my thoughts! (Apologies in advance! I’m on mobile and can’t add a “read more”)
Let’s start with the “Solving Mysteries and Rewriting History” book. I’ve already touched on it a little bit before, but there’s another thing I’d like to point out. If it weren’t already enough that he realizes his romantic sentiments could be said about Glomgold, Scrooge also describes what he believes is “true love”.
Scrooge seems to like it when the one he likes puts him through challenges and “leaves him for dead”. Neither Goldie or Glomgold actually want Scrooge dead (Glomgold’s feelings are just repressed), but they continue to put him through trials that he actually enjoys.
Now let’s take a look at the way they’ve bonded. I’ve briefly mentioned the staring thing before, but let’s look deeper in to that. For the first few years, it was supposedly hatred keeping Scrooge and Goldie warm in a frozen landscape. Eventually they started feeling love. Where do Scrooge and Glomgold do the most bonding (specifically in S2?) frozen landscapes.
The first time, they’re mostly irritated with each other (though Scrooge seems more irritated with Glomgold than the other way around). This is like how Scrooge and Goldie initially hated each other in the block of ice.
The second time, they get along much better. This is like how Goldie and Scrooge’s hatred for each other began to melt away.
In “Moonvasion”, Glomgold attempted to save Scrooge from Lunaris. Goldie saved Scrooge from Glomgold in “The Golden Lagoons of White Agony Plains”. In both of these scenes, Scrooge makes the same face. They’re still in a frozen landscape, and there’s tons of gold around them.
And of course, I have to mention this:
Scrooge reached out his hand for Goldie’s help, much how like Glomgold reached out his hand for Scrooge’s. Neither of them were successful.
