Since it's hot in WMMAP fandom, here. Let me drop this on you.
The media and content you consume doesn't necessarily have to define you and your morals as a person. There's a difference between liking something in fiction and supporting them in real life.
What writers write in this fandom (yeah, I know I've seen AO3 and Wattpad. I am friends with a lot of authors in this fandom. Hi Lithium, hi Wyrn, hi Toi, hi Alice, hi Maple, hi Vejita, hi Alyss, hi Beer, and a lot more I can't name so this post won't derail) doesn't mean they condone what they write in real life. How many times does it take for everyone to understand? Go outside, get some fresh air.
Don't like, don't read. Scroll away. Push that back button. Stop the hate, this is fanfiction not a thesis. This ain't a psychological journal. If you don't like a work, it means it's not for you and you're not the targeted audience.
This fandom is already full of drama, don't add more fuel to the fire. Mind your own business. Don't cyberbully just because you don't like something in the fandom.
“It means it’s not for you and you’re not the targeted audience” then who is, then? The minors that make up the fandom? The people who read it and get off to it? Who get off to the content that was created, despite knowing that it’s a literal child and her father??? I’m sorry, but writing detailed child porn of a girl and her father in a fandom geared mostly to minors, I’m going to have to question the “not the intended audience”. They knew full well what they were going into, both the writers and readers, if the synopsis, tags, and first chapters weren’t enough. This is both faults, but mostly the writers for contributing to disgusting content knowing what their audience is like and who will mostly come across and read it.
By going by this logic of, “the content you consume does not nevissarily describe the person you are in real life”. So if someone is watching CP and getting off to it, they’re not supporting it? That’s bullshit.
The writers, if not supporters, are enablers. They wrote it, and then saw the reaction to their work. Instead of thinking they’ve got it wrong for getting off to it, they keep going and write more. They know how many people support the downright illegal writing and content, yet continue to add to it.
look there’s a reason CP is wrong and it’s because its PRODUCTION harms minors. allow people to explore kinks, trauma, creativity, whatever in FICTION. that’s part of what fiction is for. the minors (and their guardians) are the ones at fault for consuming content made for adults. if you don’t like it, ignore, and make the case that others (especially minors!) should do the same. harassing the authors to not make the content they enjoy making isn’t going to get you anywhere except into fights.
So it’s ok for authors, adults, to enjoy writing smut between a father and a very underaged daughter? Is what you’re saying? The minors, who don’t don’t even know how to get their life together, are at fault for being curious and unknowingly support something they can’t even identify as wrong due to their pleasure? And not the adults, making it? It’s ok for adults to support a relationship between a father and daughter. That’s what you’re saying. It’s even worse because adults know it’s wrong and twisted, but still continue to support it. That’s more screwed up. Minors have the excuse of no experience and underdeveloped brains who haven’t fully understood that something is horrible. Adults, have experience. Adults, know what’s right and wrong. And yet, they continue to support and contribute to it. Adults don’t have any excuse. “Let adults write about CP because it’s their kink”.
look I’m really trying not to come off as mean here, because I think you mean well, but your argument is far removed from the reality on the situation. “So it’s ok for authors, adults, to enjoy writing smut between a father and a very underaged daughter?“ yes, actually. we can get into the specifics of what ‘ok’ means, but what you or I find savory isn’t exactly grounds for something to not be allowed. it’s fiction and I don’t personally believe that sort of thing should be restricted.
“It’s ok for adults to support a relationship between a father and daughter.” in fiction, sure
“Minors have the excuse of no experience and underdeveloped brains who haven’t fully understood that something is horrible.” you’re generally correct here, it’s why media tends to have content rating guidelines in various countries. I believe authors leaving a disclaimer on their fiction that something contains adult themes is a sufficient gesture towards this. is it flawless? no. a more robust solution might require big picture changes outside the scope of individual action. at best, fanfiction authors and other small authors could support a platform that, what, requires you to ID potential viewers. I don’t think that would work out for numerous reasons though. maybe in the future there’s big picture changes to the way the internet works to better protect impressionable minors from adult content. “Let adults write about CP because it’s their kink” as stated previously the reason CP is actually a problem, isn’t present here. Athanasia, or any other fictional minor, isn’t being harmed by the production by virtue of being a fictional character. you’ve touched on an important issue of minors probably having too much free reign over what they can see on the internet. this isn’t just an issue with some smutty fics, but pornography and violent content as well. there’s not an easy solution for this sort of thing. even outside the internet, minors are capable of getting their hands on adult media. should the artists then completely stop production of anything that could possibly harm minors? I don’t think so. if anyone personally knows a minor in the fandom, I’d try my best to protect them from the potentially harmful effects of smut, pornography, and violent video games/movies. if your method of enforcement is a community effort already, you’d be better off trying to guide minors on the right path so they have the tools to judge media for themselves. thank you for your passion towards this community, I hope in the future you can direct it towards more constructive pursuits
