Morocco vs The Netherlands, may the best win
And the best team won.
I know football is “just a game” and maybe we shouldn't take it this deeply. But for many of us Moroccans who grew up in the Netherlands (and other European countries), it was never just about football. We grew up caught between two countries. As children, many of us were told we weren't “really” Dutch. We grew up hearing that we didn't belong, watching politicians question our place here and experiencing racism that reminded us we were seen as outsiders. Then, when Dutch-Moroccan footballers choose to represent Morocco, people call them ungrateful because they grew up in the Netherlands. And when Dutch-Moroccans support Morocco, we're asked why we don't support the Netherlands instead. But what do you expect from us when we grew up being told we weren't “really” Dutch?
Our grandparents came to europe and worked incredibly hard to build a better future and they did. Today, the children of the Moroccan diaspora wear the Moroccan shirt with pride on the biggest stages in football
