kassarslan:
Kassandra blinked, surprised by his wit and seemingly equally inquisitive nature. Her hand lingered where it had touched his for a few seconds. Cold, she noted. It dumbfounded her at first, then evoked her curiosity and her attention was on high alert. Throughout the few days that she’s spent in the odd town, the only thing she’d come to realize was that none of the locals here were quick at repartee. They were good at avoiding her at best, being tight-lipped, and at muttering amongst themselves. This one was new, as confusing as he was, too.
“You seem to be very enthusiastic about this topic,” she commented. As if he was trying to prove, or rather, defend a point. “I like theorizing,” she began carefully, “and, at times, fantasizing too. But,” she tilted her head slightly, ”as long as there’s no concrete or blatant proof that I can turn to, I will remain a skeptic.” She was, after all, an ambitious journalist. Chasing after fantastical mysteries wasn’t worthwhile her time nor her job – unless she was being paid to do so, like now.
“I assume you live here? I’ve recently moved to Thornridge, it’s nice to meet a local who isn’t shy.”
IT WOULD BE so easy to give this woman the proof that she requested. Flash a bit of fang, sink into her flesh. Prove every little point to this waif of a woman and shatter her expectations that vampires didn’t exist. But no... this was a little more fun than that. “I wouldn’t say I’m enthusiastic so much as, uh... educated. Well-versed. Who knows, though. Maybe you’ll get the proof you need one day. Become a believer. But if you’re lucky...” Garratt took the woman’s hand again, tracing her warm palm with his finger. “...maybe I’ll tell you all of my secrets.”
Garratt kept her hand in his as a smile played over his features. “I don’t know if they’re shy so much as careful. The city has a rich history, and I’m an invader as much as you are. If you intend to get anywhere in this town, you have to be more open. You’re asking all of the wrong questions, mo mhuirnín. Try something different. Go on... you can practice with me.”
