“I wanted to take part, to be able to do what the musicians and actors did, rather than just watch. It was my personality, I couldn’t just be a passenger, I wanted to drive the train. If I listened to music, I wanted to be able to make it. If I saw acting, I wanted to be able to do it. I was never satisfied just being part of the audience.”
He's a sweetheart. I miss him. I just think he needs a good cuddle. [laughs] He's a very tormented soul, Jackie. The reason I like characters like him is that they are bright, they're passionate, they have got the gift of gab. I mean, Jackie should go to drama school!

When you have loved unconditionally one man and lost that love, it leaves a wound that never heals, a sad and broken heart, a void forever.
No one wanted to make it. Honestly, I couldn’t raise a cent. And then it was just by chance that my partner-producer had a lunch with Luc Besson, who I’d worked with on Leon and The Fifth Element. Luc said, [in a very French accent] ‘I love Gary, I will do this movie!’ And he literally did the deal on a napkin. What Luc was putting on the table, it wasn’t quite enough to make the movie the way I wanted to make it, and so I made up the deficit. Then when it came out, people all said, 'Why didn’t you come to us?’ And we said, 'Well, we did come to you, but you turned it down!’
