Morning Gratitude
Beautiful spring.
Mittens, loving the sun.
A nice surprise brightening my walk yesterday. The brilliant yellow hails, “Don’t despair. Spring is arriving.”
A group of some 19 Buddhist monks on a Walk for Peace from Fort Worth to Washington, D.C. are spending the night in Opelika. We joined hundreds welcoming them tonight — likely thousands so far along their journey. Their walk, an act of mindfulness, seeks to bring compassion and unity to a world divided.
The two characters who think they rule the household.
Fun in Austin. It's still weird.
Spending Thanksgiving in Austin with Andrea and Alex. Family, football, and fun.
At every moment in every person’s life there is work to be done, always work to be done, some of it small, some of it Great. The Great Work, in a sense, always has to do with healing the world, changing the world, and, as a necessary predicate to that, understanding the world. You rise every morning aware that you are called to this work. You won’t live to see it finished. But if you can’t hear it calling, you aren’t listening hard enough. It’s always calling, sometimes in a big voice, sometimes in a quiet voice. — Tony Kushner, American playwright
Mr. Falkor and Miss Bailey (napping).
Fall colors in Huntsville.
Fall colors.
Morning Gratitude.
A few scenes from the Birmingham Botanical Gardens this Labor Day morning.
Summer hiking at Chewacla State Park. Just ignore the humidity.
The highlight of my June travels: spending time with Warren and Janet in San Francisco and Reno. We talked for hours and could have continued far longer.
Abby Posner and Paula Fong played at Sundilla last night, a double first for us (both Sundilla and the artists).
