My friend, thank you for your concern. I get a lot of similar messages about that post, so let me put your mind at ease: I am thirty or forty years old and am ok with the internet knowing where I went to jr high. I also made a post with a few photos of my favorite coffee shops last year, and it's much easier to find me through those if you're so inclined. I just ask that, if you do, you then pay for my lunch. I think that's fair.

I haven't edited this at all yet, since I don't have any photo software on New Computer yet, but hey! I have a new computer! For the first time in, uh, four years? I can see things at a size and resolution and color and detail level that isn't "smartphone," and it makes me fall in love with photos like this one, that are small and filled with teeny details like the way the rain is running down the pane, or how the leaves of the vine outside cling to the glass. Anyway it's my desktop background now, because it's the season for hot summer rains. More things to come now that I can see them properly, thank fuck.

Well, while I'm here.

I've gone back to shooting on film recently (as has, I'm aware, half the internet) for all the reasons you might expect; the joy of a physical object, the impetus to put more care into setting up my 36 shots per roll rather than just firing away, the fact that I get to decide how my image looks by controlling light rather than letting an app flatten it with fake HDR. My tool of choice has been a Minox GT-E, a teeny tiny camera, one of the smallest 35mm cameras ever made. It was a gift from a friend, who bought it new in Switzerland and used it on four continents across the 80s and 90s. He put it on a shelf after switching to digital and felt it needed a good home, so now it's my constant companion.

Anyway I just love this shot. @plenilune is lurking in the shadows, there. We were catching the bus back from a local bar and I ran across the street to snap this with the bus barreling closer, and I thought it wasn't going to turn out. Instead, it's an image I just keep going back to, which is part of the draw of the medium, really.

I know that telephone pole.

I know that telephone pole intimately because I’m the one who broke it.

Thats the pole next to Sycamore Jr. High, in between the jr high school and Pipkins, where I had my second car accident.  A woman t-boned my car and drove me into that pole in 2008 and it took them years to actually take it down.

That black metal pole you see just beyond the broken phone pole is a “Now Leaving/Welcome To Blue Ash, Ohio” sign, visible at 5520 Cooper Road on google maps.

(the flag is there, btw, because its the starting point for the Blue Ash/Montgomery July 4th parade.)

I've been stirred from my dreams in my sarcophagus by being told this post is making rounds yet again, somehow. This place is strange to me now; it's pokes and checks alien, it's colors new and unusual. I am a stranger in what was once my homeland. I haunt this post.

Anyway hello to you all, please enjoy the site of my poor Honda Accord's final moments, she was a wonderful car. At some point I'll come back here more regularly, mostly because I've been shooting a lot of film of late and I'd like a place to post more of it. I just don't do well with endless scroll, my brain cannot rest until I've seen Every Post and then I don't do anything else.

SHIVERS [Legendary: Success] — Before you stands an inflatable pool filled with plastic balls. Despite being referred to as a "pit", it's quite shallow. Currently inhabited by a handful of young denizens, members of a social network, faces painted to look like characters from a story about teenagers who bring about the end of the old world and start anew.

YOU — What else do I see?

SHIVERS — It's flanked by an inflatable castle. The fans used to keep these structures erect fill the conference hall with an ominous drone, washing out the conversations around you. You can make out an utterance about shipping, but it's evident none of these people are involved in freight. Occasionally, a shoe squeaking on the concrete floor pierces the drone. You feel insignificant, and out of place here.

YOU — Embrace the cold.

SHIVERS — Further outward, you can sense rooms partitioned for speaker panels and lectures. Rows of empty chairs facing a podium, soon to be the stage for a one act tragedy. The anticipation of throngs of guests has uncoiled into an underwhelming sadness. The heroes and storytellers the people have been promised will not be making an appearance.

SHIVERS — At the hotel desk, a small calamity is brewing into a storm. A debt must be paid, and quickly, before the people taking part in this little experiment are expelled into the rain.

YOU — Where am I?

SHIVERS — Even further out, you see the building you are within. A cement and steel structure surrounded by acres of wet asphalt, just off the I 90. You are in Schaumberg. You are at Dashcon. You have one more hour in the pit.
