OOC: popping back from the abyss of adulting responsibilities. Sorry I've been so absent. I'm working on getting my place up to be a space where I can actually do fun things again. I'll be back soon. Thanks for being patient with me guys <3
shibuyacrossedâ:
Eriâs own awkwardness helped ease Nekuâs own, if only just a bit. Maybe it wasnât just him. Maybe this was awkward for both of them. Heâd been worrying all this time how weird this was going to be for him, that he hadnât stopped to consider that this was probably pretty weird for Eri, too. It must have been weird to hear your best friend talk about someone so much for three years without seeing them even once. He let out a small laugh, still a bit anxious, but the little smile that found itself on his face was considerably more genuine this time around.
âI can only imagine. I donât think Iâd be able to handle running an entire business at our age. Hell, I can barely handle working part-time at Hachiko Cafe.â He shrugged. âI usually see Shiki when I stop by, yeah, but I mostly came to check for any new items. I guess you could say Iâm kind of a fan-â He gestured loosely to the Gatto Nero branded overcoat that he was wearing- that he was almost always wearing nowadays. Seriously he almost never took this thing off.
âOh, itâs not too bad. My parents help and Iâve got Shiki!â Well, that wasnât exactly true. Eri was definitely overwhelmed, but she wasnât going to say that. She had to look like she was completely put together or noone would take her seriously.
Eri was happy to change the subject though. Showing off the new items was definitely something she could help with. Eri knew all the new pieces, even if she didnât know exactly where. Her designer brain fired up, looking Neku over to see what new item(s) would fit him best.
Eri had definitely noticed that he wore one of their pieces, but hadn't taken a good and proper look until now. It suited him amazingly. It was like the jacket was made for him. The realization made her light up, bright eyes and big smile. It was like that one girl she noticed around the city sometimes, wearing the Mr. Mew hoodie. âThat jacket suits you perfectly. I donât know if it could ever be out of style for you.â

This wasnât the âlifeâ Eri expected. After struggling for what felt like months, she gave in and asked to become a reaper. It was clear that sheâd never get enough points to come back to life.Â
It wasnât like she had all too much to come back to. A crappy clerk job and an empty flat? More disappointed calls from her parents? Friends who came and went and never really got close to her? Why did she keep fighting for an empty life?
So, here she was, a reaper, trying to sleep so she just wouldnât have to deal with her choices. Eriâs dreams that night became just dark voids that she existed in.
lostprotagâ:
The moment Eri showed an interest in being around him, heâd known she would ask this. He just wasnât sure how soon sheâd want to. And to her credit, theyâd seen each other a few times before she did.
ââŠif youâre worried about Shiki, she knows what happened to me. I donât think itâs something youâd care about, though.â
"Excuse me? You think I wouldn't care?" Eri snapped at him. "My best friend religiously went to just stand at Hatchiko statue for 3 years, waiting for you, only to come back disappointed every. Single. Time. And you think I just won't care when you suddenly show up again?"
Eri took a deep breath, calming herself down. Getting angry at him wasn't going to help. "I'm not going to just let something like this go, Neku. I care too much."
kingsmedleyâ:
Joshua looked up at her. Heâd seen this girl before⊠probably. He didnât pay much attention to his schoolmatesâthere was no point to it, after all. Though, if she was making the effort of trying to talk to him, he could at least humor her. See how long sheâd last.
âEri, hm?â He giggled, letting his head tilt to the side as he snapped his notebook shut, a loud smack of pages that would have annoyed him had anyone else caused it. âAnd whatever brings you over here? Donât you have any friends to go with you?â
The loud smack of the notebook made Eri flinch. No wonder this jerk was alone all the time. Could he try to be more rude?
"You don't have to be an ass, you know?" She's crossed her arms and huffed. "I was trying to make a new friend. So, do you want to go or not?"
She would stay strong. Eri knew that sometimes people lashed out when they were lonely or sad. It wasn't often, but Shiki did too. And Eri knew that the best way to help was to be a friend. Maybe this wasn't what her, still not introduced (hmph), classmate was dealing with, but she was still going to try.

As Shikiâs best friend, Eri had to do her best to protect her. It kept rubbing her the wrong way that Neku just up and disappeared for 3 whole years. She never heard any explanation for it either. Shiki just excused it, but Eri wasnât going to let it go.
âSo, what the hell actually happened that made you, just, be gone for 3 years?â

Eri was finally leaving school for the day. Donât get her wrong, she loves her extracurriculars, but sometimes itâs just too much. Ugh.
Chores were waiting for her at home though. She definitely didnât want to go from working to working again, so here she was, wandering the school hallways.
Movement caught her eye and she looked in what was supposed to be an empty classroom. It was the weird kid. He was writing in a notebook. Probably homework. That was also something she had to do when she got home. Ew. He probably wanted a distraction too.
She cleared her throat lightly to catch his attention and gave him a friendly smile. âUm, Iâm Koike, Eri, but Eriâs just fine! Do you want to head to the mall so we can avoid going to our homes?â
Starter call!!
ADHD roleplayers, please reblog.
the struggleâs real and i need assurance iâm not alone.
@lostprotagâ
"Not sure I actually want to know, to be honest."
âOkay, but, now that the shockâs worn off, like, I want to know the story.â
âWhat did I just walk into?â
ooc: I made a verses page!
abstractreignâ:
Rather swimmingly, she took the bait. Formalities were rushed through, and there was a glint in her eyes that signaled to him that, in a matter of seconds, she already had just the perfect outfit for him, for his supposed date.
He tried to follow her gaze with his own, but it broke away, and wandered off towards the throngs of other customers instead.
âI think thisâll be perfect for this weekendâs mixer! Oh. No, wait, this one!â
âMaybe if I rock this out on the streets, Iâll finally get noticed by a scout or asked to have my pic taken⊠oh. The line to the fitting roomâs so longâŠ.â
âNot sure if thisâll fit meâ what, ask the staff? Thereâs barely anyone to askâŠ.â
Yet more dresses clumsily returned to the racks, shirts and pants laying around unfurled. Such a burden of success. Such a major headache.
None of it was his concern, though. (Right?)
Or perhaps it was. Kind of. Joshua wouldâve preferred to keep her attention on him, and with a slew of other matters, other customers to attend toâ well, that was a tricky thing to do, wasnât it?
With a quick squint of his eyes, some scattered Mew print shirts behind Eri blinked into neat and appropriately sorted piles. He Imprinted on the folks nearby as well, with words like âcourtesyâ and ideas like âthis spot was all fixed up when you got hereâ.
It took a second for him to register the fact that Eri had asked him a question, and another to register the question itself.
Skirts, huh? âOh, Iâm fine with them.â He knew damn well he looked too good in them â well, in anything, really, but that was beside the point â to not be fine with them, conventional views on clothing and gender be damned.
âWhatâd you have in mind?â He pressed his hand to his chest and leaned forward a bit, towards her. âIâm counting on you, you know. Iâve had a huge crush on this girl since middle school, and it took all of my guts to even confess my sincerest feelings.â
His fingers curled, as if almost clutching at his chest, now. âSheâs always said that cute, pretty guys were more her thing⊠so Iâm really hoping to play up my charms, here.â
Sure, he really didnât need to add in such detail at all; lying was easier the less specific you were. But he wasnât counting on Eri even so much as remembering him after this encounter, so why not further indulge himself in this funny little act he had going?
The story he told was a familiar one. Eri knew the fears and anxieties around dating and relationships, even if she hadnât had many in her own past. She couldnât help but think he was exaggerating, though. That smile was just a little too overplayed.
But, this customerâs story wasnât something she had time to figure out. She was short staffed today and things needed to get done.
âIâll be back in a second.â Eri said, quickly walked to the nearby racks of clothing. Shiki was always the one who could eye sizing out better than Eri could, but she did her best. She made note of which sizes were in stock in case she needed to get a different size for him, then picked up what she needed.
As she was walking back, she noticed that the store didnât look quite so hectic as it was a moment ago. The shelves were neater and even the fitting room lines were more orderly and shorter. Eri let out a sigh of relief and some of the tension left her shoulders. Oh, thank god. Her staff could only handle so much.
âTry this on.â The designer handed him a yellow, off-the-shoulder top with an asymmetrical hem and a pink denim skirt. The outfit was simple and and brightly colored. Yellow was definitely going to be a good color on him and with the pink accenting it, it would look great on him.
While the customer was in the fitting room, sheâd grab the other outfit.

It wasnât until said papers were thrown that Neku noticed Eri was there at all. It was equal parts due to the fact that he just wasnât looking and because his attention was just narrowed down to one thing. Breakfast. But deciding what that was going to be was abandoned for helping Eri pick up the papers sheâd scattered across the floor, after the surprise of seeing her actually wears off a little, of course, and Neku takes the time to start grabbing the few that had drifted a fair distance from her table ( he doesnât dare to examine their contents ).
Neku holds out the papers for Eri to take, speaking up gently to try and not startle her, âHey, you okay?â It was more an offer to listen than anything, it isnât at all in question that sheâs stressed, in fact; itâs clear as day. He does overthink this a little in just these few seconds after he asks, though, leaving him unsure he can actually do anything to help to begin with, or if heâll be able to tell her anything that will reassure her, but he isnât going to ignore her even so.
He spoke up and Eri flinched. She felt like such a child, throwing an absolute tantrum and then being asked if she was okay like she was unstable.Â
It took a few moments for Eri to unfreeze. She let out a long breath and responded, âIâm fine. Iâm sorry for disturbing you.âÂ
Finally, she looked up to see the person who was helping her clean up her mess and it was... Neku? That made everything worse. Oh, that was soooooo much worse. Neku knew her. She threw a fit in front of someone she knew and someone who was a close friend of Shikiâs and he was probably going to tell her now that she was losing it and sheâd have to explain everything that was getting so hard on her end of the business when Shiki had enough to deal with with her own side of the business. She didnât want to seem like she couldnât handle it. Eri knew she could handle it, but this was just really bad timing and why did Neku, of all people, have to be here to witness it.
The panic showed in her eyes for just a moment as her face drained in color. Then, she put her people-pleasing/damage control mask back on, though her face was still pale. Eri smiled at him. âThanks for helping pick up my mess. I... let me buy you a coffee to make up for it.â

new to shibuya? â you could say that. â theyâve been in shibuya for a little while nowâalmost a couple of years, but thatâs not here or there to someone who hasnât been human in decadesâbut taking into account how theyâve spent most of that time not interacting with the lower planes, hazuki would consider themself new in the area. â am i that unfashionable? or is it just that obvious that iâm out of my element here? â
â i take it youâre one of the locals, then? â obviouslyâher soul is as shibuya as it gets.
âYour fashion isnât all too bad. And thatâs coming from a fashion designer! Itâs a little monochromatic, but it works. I may not know you very well, but it seems like itâs your own personal flare.â Eri definitely wouldnât say they were unfashionable. Their fashion wasnât the most up to date, but most people didnât pay that close attention, even in Shibuya.
âYes! Iâm a local. Thatâs actually my shop, right over there.â She pointed in the direction of the shop, but because there were so many people, it wasnât very clear which of the stores she was talking about. âItâs called Gatto Nero! And itâs one of the most popular, up and coming brands in Japan!â she boasted with pride. She didnât mean to sound arrogant, but she was just genuinely happy at how far Shiki and she had gotten in so little time.
âAh, I got ahead of myself. My nameâs Koike, Eri, but please just call me Eri.â
