i totally understand the headcanon that luke was a bit of a ladykiller bc he looks like That and sings/plays like That and i’ll even subscribe to it so long as he’s sweet and mostly oblivious about it…but i’m way more into the idea that this dude was weird and off-putting (affectionate) and his only friends were the rest of the sunset curve guys who just kinda. didn’t notice how intense and hyperfocused and untactful he was because they’ve known him so long they’ve become acclimated to it. on paper luke definitely seems like he should be the very top of the high school popularity food chain which only makes it more compelling to me that he’s like…not. at all lmao

some girl asks him out because she thought he was hot but he turns her down because they have band practice on friday nights and she’s like “you can’t miss one?” and he’s like “i don’t understand the question…?” and when his friends find out they aren’t even fazed. of course luke would do that. then a couple dudes from school are at the park when luke is there trying to make a breakthrough on a song and they invite him to throw a football around with them but after six or seven times of luke completely missing the ball because he’s spaced out muttering lyrics to himself they brutally ditch him and he doesn’t even notice. they call him a weirdo at school the next day and he doesn’t notice that either

and this doesn’t even count all the times his emotions would get way intense and freak people out (i.e. yelling MY COUCH!! only to then climb over a coffee table looking julie deadass in the eyes while gritting out WILL YOU GIVE ME JUST ONE SECOND??). if he’s excited, he’s screaming. if he’s happy, he’s bouncing off the walls. if he’s sad, he’s definitely in tears, no matter who’s around. if he’s annoyed, he’s pouting. and if he’s mad?? oh he’s having a full-on fit, whining and stomping his little feet about it. his boys barely even register the constant dysregulation, especially because he burns bright and then evens out quickly, but everyone else is like [nervous laughter] what the fuck? and heads for the hills 

the good thing about this is that 50% of the time luke doesn’t give a shit because he has his friends, his music, and his dreams…and what else is there? and the other 50% of the time he just genuinely doesn’t notice. but in conclusion, luke is not cool lmao. he’s a weird dude with three (3) friends who just so happens to be good-looking and talented…but not enough for people to ignore his general luke-ness

that being said, you know who actually was charming and popular? reggie

So I was thinking about how Caleb has multiple special powers (flying, making ghosts visible, jolts, possession, mind control, owning souls, etc) while most ghosts only seem to have one, and that has led me to the theory that Caleb’s original power is the owning souls thing. As part of that, whenever he acquires a soul with a special power, he can then spread that power to the other souls he owns. So if he owns a soul who can make themself visible to lifers, he can then make himself and all the other ghosts he owns visible to lifers.

Now here’s the angst part of that theory: Caleb’s jolts are electricity-based, right? And which of our ghosties has an electricity-based power? What if Caleb used Willie’s power to create his stamps? What if part of Willie’s guilt is knowing that it’s his power hurting Alex even though he’s not the one in control of it?

Just some food for thought :)

It’s kinda funny to imagine that the guys actually could have eaten before they went to the club, they just never realised. Coz in the kitchen scene, Luke said he’d struggled just to open the door, I doubt he would have tried to pick something up and tried to eat it. And going off Alex and Reggie’s habit of just following Luke, they probably would have written off trying to eat as soon as he said it didn’t work. What if after Alex learned how to pick things up, they could have eaten whenever they wanted but they never tried.

Julie walks into the kitchen one night and finds Reggie eating shredded cheese from the bag like a gremlin and they just stare at each other for a second before Julie goes back to bed

Ok but between having bad home lives and the relative newness of neurodivergencies as diagnoses, the boys absolutely had no clue they’re ND. Like they only really hung out with each other and they all had similar/the same problems, so they probably just figured everyone was like them. ~slowly realizes throughout the years that while he’s attracted to guys, he’s never really had a crush? he’s never fallen in love or obsessed over a guy, or had his heart broken

~it kinda fucks him up because not only is he attracted to the “wrong” gender, but he doesn’t even love them (goes specifically with my religious!Alex hc, because it’s not even love at that point, so there’s no justification of “you can’t control who you love” even though it’s not like you can control attraction either)

~the boys help him come to realize that he’s not objectifying people for not being romantically interested, and that leads to him accepting that not being romantically attracted isn’t a bad thing

~he still likes the idea of a romantic relationship, or even a queerplatonic relationship, because not experiencing romantic love doesn’t mean he can’t have that type of relationship that’s still fulfilling for both partners

~when he met willie he got more freaked out over the fact that he Felt Weird about him than the fact that he was a ghost, he didn’t know how to handle experiencing a crush for the first time (or first time actually realizing it was a crush)

~alex then going on to realize that he still?? doesn’t always feel romantic attraction???? and later talking with julie she tells him about different aromantic orientations and it just. Clicks
