Howdy Aphblr, still alive and still thinking of you! Even though I mostly do Trolls art at the moment, I still have some writing and drawing ideas for mcd. It was my first fandom, so even if other stuff comes in I really don’t think it’ll ever leave me.

So I decided to make a dedicated side blog for any Aphmau art/ramblings I have!

Oof, did not do as much pride art as I wanted. Started a lot, but it’s all stuck in rough sketch phase and I was struggling immensely to actually sit down and make it look good. Gonna try to finish some of it, my unfinished sketches folder is getting a bit crazy.

Anyways, I did another Buttercup redesign! Thought process and mini rant under the cut

So Dollightful just finished up the rainbow candy doll series, and wow, what an amazing ride it was. So many creative character designs, my personal faves were matcha and periwinkle. I lowkey feel sad it’s over, something about a well planned series of character designs just scratches an itch in my brain.

However…now seeing all the dolls in a group, I don’t know about buttercup. I did a redesign of her here, just making some small tweaks to make her feel more harmonious with herself. But now I can also see that she’s not exactly harmonious with the group either.

All the others feel like they’re in everyday wear, while Buttercup look likes she’s dressed for a performance. The candy packaging print on her is minimal, she doesn’t have any of the clear vinyl (matcha doesn’t either I’ll admit), and she’s the only one without a bag! The headpiece also just feels a bit random, it gives me more the vibes of the tropical doll series.

I wanted to redesign her to match the more casual vibes of the other girls, and meld that with the elements I changed in my first redesign

I wanted her to feel like she just finished ballet practice and is going to hang out with the others. Cute, but sporty.

I gave her a wrap top that goes over her leotard, and a gym bag that has her ballet stuff. I imagine the ballet shoes would be hanging off the bag by the laces but couldn’t get it to work in the drawing.

I tried making her silhouette kind of hourglass shaped, with a sleek middle but big hair and big chunky shoes with baggy leg warmers.

While matcha’s hair is amazing (i could watch her do box braids all day) I thought it’d be fun to have a character with curly natural hair as well, and the yellow Afro puffs would match well with the fererro rocher wrappers in her hair.

Kept the brown I introduced in the first redesign, and fully committed to the brown eyes.

I did ultimately get rid of the white frosting hair. My dirty mind made a connection and now I can’t unsee it

my buddy @perpetualwhirlpoolofconfusion was talking about the possibility of floyd having something of branch's to hold onto for forever, like branch did with floyd's vest. even gets the chance to reunite them in the end, and this exchange appeared in my head immediately.

extremely controversial take: i don't think Ogilvie is the evil spawn of satan that some people on here seem to see him as. Yes he's annoying, talks a lot, interrupts people, makes jokes at inappropriate times, can't seem to read social cues very well, talks over Joy, infodumps, shows off a lot, acts cringe. How different is that from your autistic faves in this or other shows? I think him saying "I feel like I was born to do this" is the clue I needed to get on board with this character. Seems to me like he's overeager and cringy because emergency medicine is his special interest and he's finally getting to do it hands-on after years of only studying it in labs & books. He doesn't act like he's better than the people who know more than him-- he calls Santos "ma'am" and asks Donnie for a demonstration of his suturing technique. Idk i think some of yall are projecting your least favorite arrogant male coworker onto this guy instead of seeing him for what he is: really excited and socially inept in a way that smacks strongly of neurodivergence

Wanted to wait until I actually finished the season to weigh on what I would consider was the base breaking conflict of this season, and yeah, this is fr

I love the show, but I am not in the fandom cause the people trying to shove the cast into “good person” and “bad person” boxes is so fucking exhausting. Even avoiding spoilers I saw all the Oligive hate and kept waiting for the moment that showed him to be a monster and it…never came. Yeah, he not very sensitive and has some major blind spots that stem from privilege, and he tries so hard to prove himself that he talks over others. But he’s also knowledgeable and so clearly wants to learn more. He said some shitty things about the patients, but when he was corrected he never got upset about it. There’s so much stuff about people wanting Javadi to kick his ass, but they both were acting like children competing for who knows more. And then guess what? They worked together on a patient and put that stuff behind them! And then he made a mistake that clearly shattered whatever sense of superiority he had. Like y’all, he’s not some menace, he’s a character who had a character arc.

I know there’s a lot of discussion about white favoritism in fandom, and I do think Ogilve gets some of that. I’m not coming at this from a “people are being mean to my blorbo” perspective (if anyone asks, that’s Mel and Santos). But this show, just like all other shows, runs on conflict. The entire fun of it is that a character will kick ass one episode, then immediately turn around and biff it somewhere else. Javadi, while coming from a good place, still upset the unhoused mom from season 1 so much that she left, and she rightfully got some harsh words for that. Is she a monster? No, she’s a young person who’s learning, and she has thrived in other areas with other patients.

Santos has a strong sense of justice and won’t hesitate to speak out when something’s wrong. She’s also abrasive with both her coworkers and patients, especially with her deaf patient this season.

Al-Hashimi wants to implement AI despite seeing it mess up things directly in front of her. She’s also a brilliant doctor who helped save patients with techniques and information Robby didn’t know and is quick to call him out when he’s too harsh on his staff.

Like, they’re all characters, designed to entertain you, but also to expand your horizons. This is a show that is constantly preaching the message of “you never know what someone is going through” both in the staff and the patients they treat. Ogilve was no exception to that. I’m sure Ogilve reminded a lot of people of shitty men in their life, and the characters he was rude to do not owe him forgiveness or friendship. But can we stop acting like he was some irredeemable monster who didn’t bring anything positive to the season?

Cause come on, we all gotta admit him with the leg was hilarious.

Lumity redraw!

The original is from ~2022, and I still remember being super disappointed in Luz’s outfit. I know my original vision was a yellow sweater with red and blue stripes and denim overalls. But for some reason I got in my own head about Amity’s outfit being monochromatic and Luz having to match that. So it ended up looking super plain and doesn’t really feel like Luz.

I liked getting the chance to refine them; I decided to use their epilogue designs and updated the outfits to feel a bit more mature. Gave Luz’s outfit the original colors I had wanted, and yeah it looks perfectly normal next to amity’s mostly pink outfit, so don’t know what younger me was so worried about lol.

Oh, and finally drew them kissing!

I'm actually curious, what role does Poppy have in the chipwrecked au?

She’s most similar to Theodore. She’s very optimistic that they’ll be found quickly, so even if their getaway hasn’t gone according to plan it’s best to make the most of it. I think she also has a bit Brittany thrown in, doing much better in this environment than anyone expected. I can see her and Branch having the shelter building contest from the movie.

If this were a 1:1 AU Poppy and Branch honestly wouldn’t have much to do. So there will be some extra moments focused on them. If Branch is the one who gets injured (though it would also be funny if it was Floyd, just stacking on extra reasons for Branch to be overprotective of him), they’ll probably be a moment of her telling him he shouldn’t over-exert himself and to let others help him.

Also Branch has some unresolved feelings about the wedding and their future that he definitely isn’t bottling up only for them to blow up at an inopportune moment wait who said that-

Wait, does this mean Viva is gonna get...captured by someone and forced to get treasure before the island blows up? Like in the movie?

I’m going back and forth on whether to make a “mad treasure hunter” vacationer character to take the role of Zoey. But if not, I’m pretty set on Viva being damseled in some other way

I saw the au based off of Alvin and the Chipmunks and omg I love it already. I have a quick question if thats alright.

How did the others react to see Clay as Claude now?

Going from the most positive to most negative:

Poppy- Her and JD have been the most optimistic about being castaways. She’s confident they’ll be rescued soon, so why not make the most of it while they’re here? So after the initial shock, her and Claude actually match each other’s energy really well.

Viva- Viva and Clay have been together for a long time now, but even with that closeness Clay has never been the most romantic or open with his feelings. She doesn’t mind that, but there are times she wished he would come out of his shell a little more.

The personality change definitely throws her for a loop, but the flirtation and more public displays of affection are not unwelcome lol.

Floyd- Worried for his brother, but also happy Clay is having more fun. It kind of reminds him when they were kids. And his brothers have been treating him like he’s fragile (chronic illness Floyd truther), so it’s nice to have someone encouraging him to do things

Barb- Thinks he’s much cooler now. And while she thinks him being arrogant and showing up his bothers is hilarious, if he ever did that to her he’d be dead

Satin and Chenille- I’ll be honest they’re mostly in this au to fill out poppy’s side of the bridal party and make the group cute island outfits. They’d probably think he’s cool but if his adventuring got them dirty they’d probably be over him pretty quickly.

Branch- Amused by Claude’s antics, especially the way he ribs JD. But considering how protective he is of Poppy and now Floyd, Claude encouraging them to do dangerous things stresses him tf out. He might end up being the one who sprains his ankle (though the feeling useless plot that Elenor has might go more to Floyd), so he feels extra helpless.

JD- Despite initially not believing that the bite will have an effect, once it does JD is immediately unhappy. I mean, he’s the cool brother! He’s traveled all over the world, roughed it in the wilderness, etc.. He was the one who was actually kind of excited to get shipwrecked, if it meant getting to show off a bit. But now everyone was acting like Claude was the fun one! Clay was supposed to be the planner, JD was supposed to be the devil-may-care adventurer. But with Claude now in that role, JD’s forced to be…the responsible one.

And he hates it, cause he’s been putting so much effort into not being like that anymore. He’s trying so hard to be better than he was during their band days, to trust his brothers’ judgement and not be bossy. But now he’s being forced back into it cause he’s worried Clay is going to get himself and the others hurt.

Oops, guess who watched the other film series about tiny creatures that sing and dance?

Gave the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies another watch, I haven’t watched them since I was a kid. And unfortunately, I’m a little obsessed. David Cross’s performance as Ian is inspired, and the super processed chipmunk vocals honestly remind me of Vocaloid.

Just like Trolls, that third movie goes off the rails in the most delightful of ways, and it’s made me want to incorporate the songs and some of the plot into a little Chipwrecked inspired Trolls AU.

The basic idea so far: Branch and Poppy are engaged and having a joint Bachelor/Bachelorette party on vacay island, when their ship to travel there gets caught in a storm and crashes onto a deserted island. The gang (atm Poppy, Viva, Barb, Satin and Chenille, Branch, Clay, JD, and Floyd) have to survive on the island while Bruce, Brandy, and Bridget search for them.

A lot of the plot points get shuffled around and put onto different characters, but Im pretty set on Clay having Simon’s character arc
