I’m hollering
Thus is the defining characteristic of gay millennials: we straddle the pre-Glee and post-Glee worlds. We went to high school when faggot wasn’t even considered an F-word, when being a lesbian meant boys just didn’t want you, when being nonbinary wasn’t even a remote option. We grew up without queer characters in our cartoons or Nickelodeon or Disney or TGIF sitcoms. We were raised in homophobia, came of age as the world changed around us, and are raising children in an age where it’s never been easier to be same-sex parents. We’re both lucky and jealous. As the state of gay evolved culturally and politically, we were old enough to see it and process it and not take it for granted–old enough to know what the world was like without it. Despite the success of Drag Race, the existence of lesbian Christmas rom-coms, and openly transgender Oscar nominees, we haven’t moved on from the trauma of growing up in a culture that hates us. We don’t move on from trauma, really. We can’t really leave it in the past. It becomes a part of us, and we move forward with it.
For LGBTQ+ milennials, our pride is couched in painful memories of a culture repulsed and frightened by queerness. That makes us skittish. It makes us loud. It makes us fear that all this progress, all this tolerance […] can vanish as quickly as it all appeared.
The 2000s Made Me Gay, Grace Perry
Coming from a reference group where everyone’s first queer movie was either Rocky Horror or Brokeback Mountain, it’s fascinating to talk (in person!) to gay teenagers who grew up with Korra and Stephen Universe and She-Ra.
The sheer culture clash of trying to explain that Brokeback Mountain was received as and treated as a punchline. Two men fall in love and one gets murdered for it. Considering the time this movie was made, that isn’t a spoiler: that’s an inevitability.
And all the popular culture at the time would only reference it to laugh at it.
Where “religious sentiments” and “lived experience” reign.
This chart is amazing! Thank you so much!
Flying to Seattle on my own tomorrow. Never traveled alone before, so this will be interesting. Wish me luck.
This election wasn’t normal.
Questioning if Jews are people isn’t normal.
Spraying peaceful protesters with freezing water in freezing temps is not normal.
Alt-right isn’t a thing. It’s called White Supremacy. It isn’t normal.
Fascism in the White House isn’t normal.
President-elects picking fights with FUCKING Broadway casts isn’t normal. Teachers calling students “niggers,” or telling Muslim and Mexican students they will be deported isn’t normal.
Trump isn’t normal.
Do not normalize this. It will get innocent people brutalized and killed. Speak up. Get up.
WAKE. UP.
My mom’s coworker got a phone call from his kids (ages 7 & 5) on the day of the election. They were crying and asking if they were going to be sent back to Africa because some kid at school was taunting them. That is not normal.
Alt-Reich is trending.
Trump enabled the neo-Nazis. If someone did the same for ISIS, they would be called terrorists. Trump deserves the same judgment.
Calling racist and bigoted remarks “controversial” sets a dangerous precedent for the way the media talks about bigotry in American politics.
For the first time since 1941, anthrax has hit Western Siberia, with 1,500 reindeer dying and 13 Yamal nomads being hospitalized including 4 children.
This is because unusually high temperatures (it’s 10 degrees Fahrenheit higher than normal) have melted permafrost containing the corpse of a reindeer that died of the bacteria 75 years ago.
Anthrax goes dormant when frozen, turning into a spore that reanimates when the temperature rises. Scientists estimate it can survive in this state for a minimum of 100 years.
In Siberia, dozens of herders have been relocated, a quarantine is in place and a state of emergency has been declared by the mayor.
This renews concerns that ancient viruses and bacteria could once again pose a threat, as the earth warms.
In 2014 scientists discovered that a Siberian virus, pithovirus sibericum, which lay dormant in permafrost for 30,000 years, became infectious again once thawed.
this is the best explanation I’ve seen

They are so desperate to see Hillary lose, several thousand have now huddled up around Jill Stein as the third-party spoiler. That means that their need for revenge is bigger than their need to preserve a moderate to liberal Supreme Court. It’s bigger than the safety of Muslim Americans under a spiteful Trump presidency. It’s bigger than respecting millions of hardworking Latino immigrants. It’s bigger than the fate of LGBT families whose rights will be stripped and reversed under a conservative Supreme Court. It’s bigger than the bare bones austerity budget Paul Ryan wants and needs to pass, reversing the course of decades of post-Roosevelt social policies. It’s bigger than demanding equal rights for women not be rolled back. It’s bigger than the environment because Trump has made it very clear that he doesn’t believe in climate change and wants to drill baby drill, burn coal till there’s no more to burn, and “bomb their oil and take their oil.” Their need for revenge is bigger than any other concern facing anyone poor, struggling, needy or oppressed. It has only to do with their anger and rage, their sense of entitlement, their hatred of women.
Bernie or Bust Supporters Continue to Sabotage Clinton Just to Prove a Point — The Policy (via existentialcrisisfactory)
This attitude is fundamentally selfish and shows these people being privileged beyond comprehension and suffering from a severe lack of empathy.

persistent bernie/stein supporters ignoring the concerns that we raise about a probable trump presidency if we don’t unite to vote for hillary i think is a symptom of the underlying motivation behind a lot of social justice and activist activity on the internet
it’s not about change, it’s not about improving the lives of other people, it’s about adopting the most visibly progressive platform to place yourself as morally and ethically superior to your peers
i saw a post that was like, people who are able to throw their vote away on a third party or write-in, or abstain from voting at all, have a specific privilege that allows them to be uninvested in the real dangers that a trump presidency imposes on people’s lives. so they get to make Symbolic votes because the outcome doesn’t truly effect them.
Do not make Symbolic votes
Do not write-in or vote third party (i mean seriously? google ralph nader and the 2000 election. don’t vote 3rd party).
If you do not want Donald Trump to be the next President of your country, grow up and vote for Hillary Clinton because a) she is almost exactly as liberal as Sanders anyway (I think they agree on like 93% of issues) and b) SHE WILL BE MUCH BETTER FOR YOUR COUNTRY THAN DONALD FUCKING TRUMP and c) SHE IS THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS A CHANCE AT BEATING HIM.

Everyone says communication is the most important part of a relationship – but what does healthy communication actually look like? If you're stuck on this question, Celia Edell has practical tips to help.
1) “Say what you need from your partner. These needs will change over time. Your partner cannot read your mind, you have to tell them exactly what would help you when you’re struggling. When things are good, tell them what they are doing that you are liking.”
2) “Check in with your partner on what they need from you. Pretty simple. Just asking things like, “Did you have a good day? How can I help you? What do you feel like doing today?” Things you probably already ask them, but just making sure that you’re asking because you really want to know the answer.”
3) “Validate that what they’re saying is of interest to you, and that you’re listening. That is often all that someone wants after a long day, or a big thing happening.”
4) “Recognize how your partner’s identity affects them. If you’re in a relationship with someone who is not exactly like you, there will be things that they have not experienced, that you experience regularly, and vice versa. Learn to listen to your partner when they talk about these things, and recognize that their movement through the world is likely different from yours. This just requires us to take each other into account in an intersectional sense, and be sensitive to the different needs that arise from an oppressed identity.”
5) “Admit when you’ve made a mistake. Tell your partner when they’ve pissed you off, being honest about saying how it is, instead of making excuses or protecting each other unnecessarily. Even if the truth is that things aren’t great right now, they are much more likely to improve if you’re both on the same page, rather than one of you hiding your uncertainty from the other one.”
6) “Rephrase what your partner is trying to say, to clarify it to yourself, and see if you’re correct. Usually, if I’m mad, I’m not correct about it. Usually, I’m misinterpreting, because I’m upset or angry. If I say, “Oh, so you’re saying that we shouldn’t do this?” My partner can now see how I’m misinterpreting his words, he can restate them, like, “No, I just mean we shouldn’t do it today.”
7) “Avoid saying anything with the intention to hurt, because they will remember your words. Watch that what you way is really what you mean, and something that they can actually do something about…. If you and/or your partner resort to name calling, mocking, or insulting each other when things are tense, that’s something that you should try to address. My partner and I have a rule of no name calling. He’s never called me a name.”
8) “Try not to withdraw from confrontation and just hope it will go away, because you need to be able to talk these things out. You can walk away and collect your thoughts, but you should come back willing to give a hard conversation a go, because if you’re having a hard conversation and you get worked up, you might say something you regret.”
“Communicating is not easy. It can feel awkward, forced, unfair, but it is ultimately the most important aspect of being in a rewarding relationship, I think.”
I really don’t understand the people that are saying: “now that Bernie endorses Hillary I’m voting Trump”. Like really? When you run out of soda you don’t drink a glass of bleach instead either, right?!
When in the entire American history did all lives matter?!
