Hey students, here’s a pro tip: do not write an email to your prof while you’re seriously sick.
Signed, a person who somehow came up with “dear hello, I am sick and not sure if I’ll be alive to come tomorrow and I’m sorry, best slutantions, [name]”.
I mean, if someone wrote that to me, I’d probably believe they were sick.

THE SUBJECT LINE IS THE BEST PART JSJFJSJDJS JUST IMAGINE GETTING AN EMAIL WITH NO CONTEXT OTHER THAN “OW”
As someone who has taught college, please send those emails because 1) We WILL believe that; no one would write that on purpose and 2) we need a laugh sometimes.
On the other side of this, once after getting taken to the ER by ambulance, I got an email from the professor whose class I’d passed out in, and the message had no text, just the subject line “you good?”

reminder to all writers
you are talented, and more than capable of creating something extraordinary
your way of telling a story is unique, there’s not a single story in this world that could, or would, ever be told the same way, by any writer;
meaning, you bring something remarkable to the table, a story that never would have been told, if it wasn’t for you
and no amount of self-doubt is going to change that
god this is super fucking petty and I don’t want to step on any toes but personally one of my least favourite tropes is like, oh, so-and-so hears a voice or sees things and everyone thinks she’s ~~crazy~~ but it turns out it’s magic, or other forces are actually speaking to her, or it’s this or it’s that or it’s something else, whatever, she’s possessed, she’s the chosen one, whatever
like I get………… I get why it’s a trope that people use and I guess it makes some sort of sense but literally every time someone describes a character who hears voices or has hallucinations or psychosis I’m like “yeah!!!!” and then they go on to be like “BUT ACTUALLY WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING IS–” I’m immediately like……………. oh ym god………. oh my god I’m so bored. I’m just so bored. I just cannot stress how little I am interested in this. I am so tired of this
y’all know you can have both, right
n I know it’s not always….. malicious. but it’s like y’all don’t wanna have psychotic characters in stories unless their psychosis is super palatable and relevant to the plot. or unless you can use it as a cheap gotcha. and in some cases unless you can pull out last minute and be like “haha but at least she’s not REALLY crazy not like all those other crazy people” like psychotic is the worst thing a person can be
and like yeah I’m bitter and petty and not explaining this well. but when this trope makes up so much of the situations in which psychosis is even mentioned in fantasy sci-fi plots it just gets overused and old
it would be different if there were more actually psychotic protagonists and heroes out there in fantasy and sci-fi plots to give it some balance but we’re still really lacking in that department!!
Also, a lot of the people in those jobs DIED. they can't come back to work because the work conditions got them covid and now they are dead.
also, for every person that died, several more survived but now have long haul covid and are disabled and literally can’t go back to the job that ruined their life in the first place, or any job, because their health is just gone now, and the current ‘unemployment pay’ that assholes keep complaining about is all that’s keeping them afloat.
Once my boyfriend told me: "You're not a burden. A burden is something you're forced to carry against your will. I freely choose to be a part of your life and that means you aren't a burden to me." I'm passing it on in case some of you need to be reminded of that.

Apparently when my grandma first came to America she didn’t know what a raccoon was and assumed it was a fucked up cat and adopted it. I just imagine this 13 yr old girl with a heavy Eastern European accent being like “this is my cat, Petr. He is not very friendly”
