I fell in love with you like the moon fell in love with the sun
we fall down and we shatter and sometimes we never rise again.

She’s doing her best avoiding the glass, utilizing her umbrella to block a handful of shards. A few close calls, but nothing yet! Hat Kid glances over at her other self as she ducks from another cluster of speeding shards. If she can just distract Mustache girl long enough… two on one wouldn’t be so bad.
She rushes toward her assailant, getting a few minor cuts in the process, and reels her umbrella back before whacking her across the face.
Hat kid keeps going past, turning around to face Mustache girl and giving a defiant smile.
“ Hah! That all you got? Just some bits of glass? C’mon, buddy, you can do better than that! “
Please just bust down the door. She’s gonna die.
Korvas spares a glance at Leo — he already looks so guilty, their continuous glare just adds onto it — and gestures to the door. He approaches it as they step towards the bedroom door. They do an ‘I’m onto you’ sort of motion by pointing at him and to their own eyes. He replies with a nervous nod. She’s totally gonna kick his ass once this is over, isn’t she?
Leo focuses his magic again, into a bigger blast aimed at the door a couple feet away. It bursts before it can hit the door, catching the carpet on fire again and sending a wave of heat towards the dark mage. He whimpers in pain for a moment before steeling himself to fire again. And, oh god, is that what the kid felt?! The blast explodes inches away from him, burning the shit outta his hand and quite a good portion of his arm too. He’s blasted backwards, his ears ringing like a million churches. In his blurry vision, he can see the flames rise and rise. The door is only charred. Fuck.
Korvas hurries into the bedroom, looking around fran– oh, he’s chained up on the wall right next to the door! He has many many burn marks, along with bruises and shards of glass stuck into him. They kneel in front of him, attempting to wipe away the dried oil on his cheeks. It doesn’t work. They look between the shards and the chains before manipulating – Perhaps the one useful thing from being partially turned to glass – the shards out of his body and shooting them into the chains.
They sigh as the shards don’t seem to do too much. Perhaps they’re a little weaker, but not enough to s h a– break apart. There’s two explosions from the main room. She pays them no mind. Turning back to her bruised and bloody oily friend, she reaches around to his neck – her left hand is still holding his cheek – and flips the ON switch. “Sir…?” Her voice is full of concern and worry. Luckily, she packed a lot in her first aid kit!
The Conductor hangs there in chains, hanging by the wrists. It looks like whoever set these chains up either wanted to break his wrists by making the chains too tall, or they expected him to be taller… Hm. He hangs there, his body limp and sad-looking.
It takes a moment, but there’s a noise as he powers on, until it’s suddenly interrupted by… Loud shouting.
The chains immediately rattle, as he attempts to get away from something…? He attempts to pull himself up with the chains on his hands, though they immediately shatter. “ –NDS… ” Bzzrt. “ …OFF’A… ” Bzzzzzzrt. “ Off…A…. Me…? ” Bzzzzz…
“ W… Whazza… ” He trails off, before staring down at his hands, which are now free from the wall. He kicks his legs and the chains down there snap, causing him to stumble forward in surprise, and he has to catch himself before he falls. He’s taking breaths as if he hasn’t breathed in awhile– roughly a week or two– and he seems to be anxious. He stares at his claws for a little bit longer, before one of his hands gently wraps around the other wrist, rubbing it gently. He lets out a low whimper, and he looks up at Korvas.
“ L– Lassie!!! ” He exclaims, ignoring the pains from the electric shocks lining his voice, making it sound strained and pained. He lets out a weak laugh, before he charges at her, pouncing her and clinging onto her. “ I- I knew ye’d come!!! ” Bzzzzzzzz. “ She– She didn’t but I did!! I knew someone’d come!!! I knew it I KNEW IT!!! ” BZZZZZ. He laughs a little bit longer, though it was obvious tears were starting to build up from the obvious pain going out through his entire body. He should really stop talking before he gets himself more hurt. He seems to be trying his best to ignore how much it hurt at the moment, however.
…
“ OW!!! ”
She yelps softly as the umbrella makes contact with her face, her body turning blue for a second before she teleports away, across the room.
“ Oh, you think I can’t do more? ” She started, teleporting in a different place in the room with every word she spoke, “ I can do much, much more than that, you know. ” She says, a smirk crawling onto her face.
“ Just. ” Zip. “ Watch. ” Zip.
She teleports across the room, before charging a blast of magic in front of her. There’s a split frame of time before a laser forms in front of her, and aims directly at the two Hat Kids. If Hat Kid moves, the laser follows, very slowly…
“ ACK–!! ”
Tall Kid lets out a loud yell as the laser materializes, before she jumps out of her chair, dropping the piece of glass in her mouth and booking it to the exit. She pounds on the doors, them not budging an inch. She whines, before running to the other set of doors. Maybe they could just… Run until someone comes for them….? They open, and she frantically motions for Hat Kid to follow.
Coming within just a hair of hitting her right in the face, Hat kid manages to dodge the huge laser. Why the heck did those powers have a lasting effect?!
Her head shoots up to face her other self, taking a glance back at Mustache girl before sprinting toward the door. No time for any more trash talk or banter! close it close it close it- She manages to slide shut, making a soft click as it locks.
Hat kid tries to not panic, taking a few deep breaths. “Okay.” She looks to Tall Kid. “Do we have a plan to get her out of here, or are we toast.”
She laughs in relief, though her voice is strained because of the tears that are starting to form. “Shh, shh...” Despite the injuries on the other, they try to hug him back as well. Korvas is more than a little shocked by what Mustache Girl coded in but their face relaxes as they pet him gently. “Of course I came...” Who else would? “But.. You should probably stay quiet, sir. You’ll just end up hurting yourself more.”
Korvas slowly sits up - They’ve never seen him so excited before... look at that tackle! - but makes sure that he doesn’t fall. “Alright dear, let’s get you patched up, hmm?”
Leo’s vision fades to black. Like an uncreative kid’s powerpoint slide. Welp, that wasn’t a very good lif— Oh! What’s that? He now sees a glowing yellow light, pulsing calmly. He doesn’t know why, but for some reason just looking at this light made him... hopeful?
Oh, hey, there’s his hope ideya. He forgot he lost that. Not that it matters since he’s never had much ho— Oh, holy SHIT that calming light from earlier got really bright. At least from his viewpoint.
Even though he can’t see it, his body starts to glow the same soft yellow he saw earlier. A wave of literal hope washes over the main room of the ship, douse the fires, and crash up against the walls and return back to Leo. As they crash into him, the damage from the repeated blasts heal over.
“Darky? Are you there?” A soft hopeful voice asks. It’s as gentle as these waves. “You’re doing something good! I’m so proud of you!” The voice gains a sad tone. “But...” No.. no.. it’s alright... He wants to comfort the voice, but to no avail. “... Please come back safe, Darky!”
The rest of the waves seem to soak into him as he blinks rapidly to wake himself up faster. Eventually his vision is clear enough for him to shakily stand, he glares at the door and aims at it again. BOOM! Okay, it wasn’t strong enough. Let’s try again, shall we?
This time, he’s able to gather up the hope that revived him to shoot another blast. Bits of machinery shoot off, landing a few feet away from the now gaping hole in the metal door.
He looks down at his hand in shock. Can he use hope now...?
these VOICES –
they just won’t shut up.

“ Whup! “
Hat kid had managed to get her alternate up and out of the snow, getting her chair to sit upright. She brushed off her off a bit, pushing off any stray chunks of ice.
”Phew. Okay, let’s get you outta these… How did she manage to get you and Conductor tied up like this? She couldn’t be- “
She was cut off. For moments after she had taken to trying to loosen the bonds on her alternate’s wrists, the flash of light behind her brought her full attention to-
Oh, crap.
“Uh. Heeeeeey. “ She chuckles nervously. “ So, uh. How’d you get past the loc- “ AND SHE’S RIGHT THERE. CHRIST. Hat kid stumbles back, holding in a yelp.
Putting her hands out in front of her, she starts backing away a little.
“Okay. I am sorry you’re still mad about that. And I know it’s been a while, so h-hey! How about we talk stuff out over some lunch?? Maybe? “ She manages a shaky smile. Since when did Mustache Girl get so darn scary?!
Hat Kid’s face falls as her former friend laughs. Man, she really must have been working on her supervillain impression. As glass forms around the three, her expression turns to one of fear, then determination. She is not going to do this again. She grips her umbrella.
“Heck no. But….”
“ I will if I have to. “
Leo’s smug expression instantly disappears, replaced now with dread and guilt.
Korvas shoots a glare at him, pointing forcefully down at the spreading flames. “You deal with this, I will check on the Hat Kids.” They stomp over to the door, although they really wanna smack him. Instead they’ll smack this door, “Hat Kid...s..?! Are you hurt?!”
He looks down at the carpet with dawning horror. Why the fuck did he just do that!!! The poor kid!!! She easily could’ve been replaced with Maria - who already looks so similar - or even Kelly. Kelly. Damn, he misses her even more now.
Leo tries to calm his breathing, though he finds no such success. His magic tends to get a little screwy when his head isn’t completely clear, but he might as well try. He reaches out towards the flames, his hand already starts to heat up. He ignores it, part focus yet part eye-for-an-eye. With another deep breath, the flames are absorbed into his own flame a few inches away from his hand. As he returns it to his side, the flames spark out of existence.
thekidwiththehat:
Oh boy. There goes other Hat Kid. Goodbye.
Okay, two options. Fight this jerk again, or go help her alternate… Uhhh…
ACTUALLY NO. OPTION THREE.
Without much thought or planning, Hat Kid steps forward, flipping Mustache Girl’s cape over her face before giving her a shove on the shoulders. “BYE!” She then flees the scene, heading toward the alpine skyline room where her other self had been dumped earlier.
As she whips around to lock the door behind her, she sticks her tongue out at MU, leaving Korvas and Leo in the main room with a (Likely very peeved) Mustache Girl.
“…Other me? You good in here?”
Leo continues to glare down at Mustache Girl in silence, his line of sight not shifting an inch. Until he's suddenly looking at a lump of cloth
Korvas, however, takes a step toward the door to Alpine Skyline before HK closes and locks it behind her. Turning to look back at the scene, they flinch as Leo flicks his fingers as if starting a lighter and then lights Mustache Girl's cape on fire.
She's... starting to have second guesses about getting Leo's help. Especially as he grins darkly as the flames start to spread.
thekidwiththehat:
Hat Kid had stashed herself away on her alternate’s ship just a day or two ago- Knowing all of the spacecraft’s systems came in handy when it came to sneaking in. She was even able to grab some food from the kitchen when Mustache Girl was asleep before getting back into the nooks, crannies, and vents. She pulled out her phone. No new messages yet. Hm. She and Korvas had been planning a rescue, and Hat kid was waiting for them to appear as backup. If this Mustache Girl can overpower her other self and The Conductor, She probably shouldn’t go in alone. Who knows what she’s got up her sleeve. A flash comes from the slits in the vent she had been nestled in, followed by some… Admittedly intimidating murmurs. Sounds like somebody’s been practicing their supervillain impression. Hat Kid stuffs her phone away. Guess that’s her cue! Ever so slightly, she pushes open the grate from behind MU’s back. Hi Korvas. And whoever that other person is. Looks like a friend. Hopefully. While Mustache Girl is distracted, she lowers herself out of the vent, letting herself drop to the ground before pulling out her umbrella. She looks over to the two newcomers, putting a finger to her lips, as she inches closer to her alternate. Hats stick together.
Leo snarls back at her (Over-dramatic, much?) in a similar threatening tone, “I am the Dark Apostle--” He didn’t mean to say that... but might as well go along with it! “And I’m--” He glances over to Korvas, “--And we’re here to stop you!”
They weren’t even paying attention to him when he made reference of them. She was too busy checking the tied up Hat Kid for any injuries, on Korvas’ eyes’ way back to Mustache Girl, they catch on Hat Kid. No, the other one. And then looks back to the kidnapper. Sternly, yet calmly, “This has gone on for far too long, dear. And you’ve taken it too far.” She sounds more serious on those last two words.
