This has been a constant on my desk for almost year and a half now. I rarely receive flowers, so I thought it would be nice to preserve it for as long as I can -- nevermind if it was just a giveaway from HR. A friend once joked though, that this might be the reason why I haven't dated in a while; that this rose has become a relic that wards off potential romances. There is a place here in my city where they sell old things. They were old and well-loved -- sometimes too loved. It was there where I found these two, hidden among the film cameras, either abandoned or forgotten by their previous owners. I never asked if I could take them. I simply wound them back as discreetly as I could and slipped them in my bag, confident that they will not be missed. I highly doubt the shopkeepers even noticed anyway. Then after that, I wondered. What kind of memories did these rolls hold? Would they contain the mundane, a stranger's day-to-day? Were they full of joy or perhaps, regret? Will I see somebody's child or friend or if I was lucky, their lover? (I had also thought of using them myself, but it felt wrong. Invasive. Like an unwanted guest dropping by somebody's home.) And now, years after those first thoughts, I wonder again. Do I still want to find that out?
