HAPPY NEIL BANGING OUT THE TUNES DAY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!
dude honestly shout out to my guards i told them to seize this guy and before i could even finish my sentence they soze him. My goats
This was supposed to be a post for International Women's Day 2025, but algorithms hated me and didn't show it to anyone, so I'm posting it now %)
Watched og fantasy high over a friend's shoulder who was watching it for the first time and saw the moment where Brennan drops Aguefort's mini and Lou is like "yooo is he black??" and Brennan goes "yes :)" and that's a fun nice moment but then it was so weird in hindsight. It's "oh Lou didn't know that because it was only mentioned once (I think) that Aguefort has dark skin and it's easy to miss that and you're basically trained your whole life to assume people in media (especially fantasy media) are not black" and "oh he was really happy about that. I was happy about that too." Then I remembered Lou was surprised about Caramelinda too, "why are you hiding these black women from me?" or something.
In newer seasons Brennan's initial descriptions of NPCs will often straight up be "yeah you see this older Black man who [...]", "you see this guy, he has [physical trait], he's Asian..." and oh! Oh that means a lot. Like, on one hand it just helps you picture the character better to get a more specific description but on the other hand it does genuinely feel good to be directly mentioned without it being a big deal. Sometimes you forget how good representation feels until it's casually in there, I guess.
Reminded me of an adventuring party(?) where Brennan mentioned that he regrets not explicitly saying Anabelle Cheddar was a lesbian and learning from Ally that it's often valuable to outright say when a character is queer (talking about Liam calling himself asexual). Some people might criticise it as "forced", I guess? But the reality is that unless you outright say it or outright have two women make out on camera, the default assumption will always be that they're not queer, therefore you have to say it if you want it to be canon and people to know and you don't want to make the two women make out right now, or an equivalent of that just isn't an option. For example there isn't really a definite way of showing a character is ace without leaving stuff up for interpretation without saying it.
(And yes this goes for a character like Riz too. I think his asexuality is pretty canon and Brennan straight up said the word, but in my humble opinion him being aro is still very much an interpretation thing? I do make him aroace but if someone views it differently I wouldn't say they're wrong?? You can definitely read that as someone who wants romance being turned off by the sexual aspect and not understanding why that's such a big deal and then fearing that they'll never have a fulfilling relationship because they're "missing something" and "couldn't do it right", and ultimately I don't know what Murph was going for. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, I think here it's cool that different queer folk can find their different experiences in this one guy, but I'm talking about the principle. Queer rep and the curse of ambiguity.)
-> And similarly there's not a lot of ways to make a ttrpg npc a poc and communicate this to everyone other than just saying so when describing them. And it seems like this is something Brennan learned and does now and that's just really nice to see. Idk if this is a weird rant haha. Representation is cool👍
This would have had me crucified on tumblr 10 years ago but maybe we are ready for this conversation now:
If you are a socially anxious person, you have to socialize. Your panic/anxiety attacks will only get worse and trigger more frequently if you constantly avoid contact with The Public. Not saying that you need to be a social butterfly- but there is a genuine problem with not being able to order your own meal at a restaurant. And it cannot be solved by always having someone else do it for you.
This is a PSA to about 3/4s of the Portland Youth populace
everyone who reblogs this and is like "I ordered my own tea this week" or "I only barfed once when I had to give a presentation'- you are doing amazing sweetie. Have patience with yourself, you are relearning a skill so difficult that people get 4 year degrees to do it professionally.

Hey friends! If you don't know me I'm Milo! I'm a nonbinary Latinx lesbian poet and activist, I studied sociology and library science in school and I've been here on tumblr since I was 12 or 13!
Tumblr was the first place I shared some of these poems, so it's exciting and personal to share this on here! But I wrote a poetry book! It's called This Is Why I Never Left, it's a queer feminist anti-abuse book!
The book officially releases on August 16, 2025 with Daxson Publishing but pre-orders are open now!
My target audience for this book is anyone who queer, or trans, or a woman and it's meant to challenge sexist, heteronormative ideas that keep queer people from being able to come out and express themselves fully!
I'm from Southern California and most of the book takes place between Northern and southern California, but I also mention New York City, and Mexico City, and a couple other cities in the southwest.
If you pre-order your book now, I'll send you a cute little sticker pack that matches some of the poems in the book!
Thanks for supporting me! Likes and reblogs are always appreciated if you aren't able to buy a book! :)
