the we-get-each-other couple analysis. aKA Yoonseok is more alike than you might think.
I’ll be using lots of resources and I’ll tag them where appropriate. (this is a somewhat long post) There might be triggering material for mental health and other such things.
So, to start off, since Yoongi, aka Agust D’s mixtape dropped we understand a LOT more about who he is as a person, why he is the way he is, tbh just everything. Before that it was still a bit of a mystery. We’ll start at the end and jump back to the beginning.
Min Yoongi cited himself in his mixtape that he had depression, anxiety (specifically social anxiety) he fought sadness, at times he describes dis-associative issues, implied suicidal thoughts, etc. This mixtape REALLY stripped him bare for us there should be NO question as to who he is or why he is the way he is now. So many of us just thought he was introverted and sleepy for the longest time but it goes way beyond that.
For Min Yoongi, music is his life and love, it saved him and it continues to save him to this day. He was a man who fought mental and emotional distress very often.
When he first met Bangtan Sonyeondan, he was fighting these such issues.
Let’s jump over to Jung Hoseok. We don’t have a mixtape that really talks about his feels or explains him well, but we do have lots and lots and lots of member commentary about him, and a few revealing daum posts and twitter posts.
From these we can gather that Jung Hoseok is a man who deals with overwhelming anxiety, particularly performance anxiety (he suffers from stress-induced enteritis [we also know that yoongi always went to the hospital with him when this happened]), is very sensitive to loss and criticism, easily depressed, and a workaholic, perfectionist who will isolate himself if he doesn’t perform up to his best. He spends hours longer than some of the boys in the dance practice room perfecting his dance.
These two men have both on a regular occasion dealt with fighting anxiety and mental healthy issues, and they were like that when they first met all the way through debut era. This is not a guess this is a fact.
One of the more recent times that Jhope’s situation was revealed was the members said that Jhope was not very happy before debut. Yoongi even said ‘i had never seen someone so depressed’, it’s true he had a light tone to keep things funny during the broadcast but, there’s nothing funny about this statement since it draws from reality and this fact is very sad honestly. He continued to try to make the members laugh during this scene to distract from how clearly uncomfortable he was.
I’ll reference the iconic end-of-year chicken story. Where trainees, before Debut, when the members didn’t all know each other very much, Jhope was alone at the dorm while the rest were all away for holiday, and texted Yoongi just that. Yoongi who was with his family (who we all know that he loves very much) left his families home during holidays to grab chicken and take it to Jhope and be with him so he wouldn’t be alone. He found Jhope on the couch by himself in the dorm, with a blanket looking pitiful, and they shared chicken.
Yoongi and Jhope have a very similar struggle. Yoongi has said that Jhope acts a his battery and will cheer him up, motivate him, and keep him positive.
This is eSPECIALLY important, because we know now that Yoongi has ALWAYS fought off depression and dark thoughts. Having someone who can keep you positive, motivated and happy when you’re routinely dealing with mental health issues is the MOST important.
But, we know that it’s not just Jhope that uplifts and helps Yoongi.

Hoseok also seems to be very well taken care of by Yoongi.
Yoongi who always takes care of him, picks him first in games and for questions, interviews, everything. Who actively always tries to sit beside him, does what he requests and supports him endlessly.
Yoongi who is literally so sensitive to Hobi that he can tell when Hoseok is sad based on his expression and the way his shoulders are, and can tell Hoseok by even just his sigh.
When you consider the hardships these two have faced and how similar they are, it makes their relationship that much sweeter and easier to understand. People often try to say that these two are opposite because of their personalities, but is that rEALLY true? Who else do you ever see Yoongi do aegyo for/because of/@ on a regular basis just to see him smile? Who do you see him laugh with, go out of his way to act silly with & @ when h e’s feeling sad. Min Yoongi literally is almost ALWAYS acting a fool when he’s around Jhope specifically.
These two know how sensitive the other is, they understand and relate to each other more than you might think.
Imagine meeting a group of people that you were going to spend years and years and years of your upcoming life with, and being able to find out that someone in that group gets you. Seeing them feel things that you’ve felt so many times before—specifically when it comes to mental illness or dark/depressive thoughts.
Never underestimate how much Yoongi and Hoseok care about each other and how similar they are.
They are the most supportive, similar, soft pairing in BTS. They just get each other very well, and are always very comfortable together. Yoongi in particular, seeks Hobi out like he’s the center of his universe, because Hoseok is someone that he’s explained so many times, is very important to him and is a source of strength.

I could make this post litearlly so long I would break tumblr, but I’m going to stop. I just think that, people fail to realize how much they have in common, and why they seem to be so positive and relate to each other and support each other so well.
They very similar and not only that they understand each other well and really are endlessly complimentary to each other. Their personality mesh well and they make each other feel better. There’s a LOT LOT LOT of mutual respect between them.
In short, don’t be so quick to brush them off as the grump meets happy trope, because they’re WAY more complex than that, and it’s beautiful if you pay attention to it.
