It makes me so genuinely sad that Dark Crystal isn’t more widely known/loved.

It’s such an incredible example of world building and character study. Especially when you dive into each characters backstory they’re such well built characters.

Anyone else get kinda annoyed that Jen’s butchered pronunciation of the Podling word for “thank you” became the like,,,canon(ish) word?

Kira clearly says smth closer to “Fahl-yeu-vam” but Jen says “Falavam” and that’s what I always see typed out in printed media.

Listen, okay I get the Urru not raising Jen in gelfling ways and him not really knowing gelfling history that’s fine whatever. But why wouldn’t they teach him about Aughra? The actual voice of Thra. Because they definitely knew about her. As did the skeksis so like,,,,,why didn’t they ever bring her up in their teachings to Jen? Did they have a reason?

Like it’s clear that the Urru and Skeksis are not simply “the good side and the evil side” of the UrSkeks. That’s clear in the narration at the very beginning says “the cruel skeksis and the gentle mystics.” They’re GENTLE but that doesn’t mean GOOD. They’re simply gentle, passive, pacifists.

So was it simply ignorance? Did they just not bother with teaching Jen anything about gelfling or Thra history simply because they were too un involved and neutral about it all to care?

I think the Librarian used to be radical like Brea and the rest of the heroes of Thra but he saw the hold on gelflings the skeksis had and basically gave in and lived a life in willful ignorance. Then Brea came along and he gently nudged her in the right direction because she has a right to know. But he didn’t want her to face the same defeat and heartache he did at finding out how much of a task it would be to change things.
