The gathering had been going for a couple of hours already, roaring with the burst of energy from the students that wanted nothing more but to relax and forget about whatever drama had ensued the school that week. Jade had been hesitant at first to even attend, the memories from the last party she showed up at before being sent to the prison world still weighted heavy in her head, but even then, as usual, she ended up joining. Wendy had insisted for her to join her and after some consideration ( that included just thinking of Lizzie Saltzman ) she had agreed. Only Wendy had ditched her as soon as they got to the old mill, going after Jed to “discuss something from class”. Like Jade didn’t know they didn’t share any class at all.
She had grabbed a drink for herself soon after, and had paced around the old mill for a while before settling in a comfortable area. Being ambushed by Alyssa Chang had been a surprised, Jade seemed to recall hearing around that the witch had no care for other supernaturals creatures other than witches like herself. Even if she also recalled hearing about her going after MG once or twice. It was all a bit too confusing for her to start trying to make sense of it now, so she had just greeted her with a smile and a soft hello that was, apparently, all the witch needed to stay around and talk.
Now, Jade might’ve spent the last ten years of her life locked in a prison world with only three other persons with her ( one of them a crazy psychopath and the other a very exhausting werewolf ) but she was still acutely aware when someone was flirting with her. And Alyssa Chang was, by no means, a shy person. Jade was overly aware of the way Alyssa talked, the undertones on her voice and the way she moved ( though she was still trying to get a grasp on the idea of the witch being even interested in girls, but seriously, who has her to judge? ) and even more aware of Lizzie’s presence just above them on the second floor of the old mill.
Jade had sensed Lizzie’s perfume the moment she had walked into the old mill, had been the main reason why she picked this spot to hang around. She hadn’t counted with Alyssa’s presence though, at all. When the last words left her lips, and Alyssa’s laughter reached her ears the same moment her hand reached for her arm, Jade wondered if maybe Alyssa knew something and was doing it on purpose ( she had also heard of the witch’s countless attempts to mess with both Saltzman Twins ) but she didn’t have much time to dwell on it. The sharp sound of wood crushing had them both looking up, being greeted by a light rain of sawdust and then, the splashes of alcohol rebounding on her after hitting the same witch that had been with her for the last couple of minutes.
Jade had took an instinctively step back, the surprise of the liquid hitting her face had been replaced with a bit of annoyance mixed with worry, and when she looked back up, she met Lizzie’s eyes before the blonde just disappeared. She turned back to Alyssa, muttered a short apology and rushed off after the other. Trying to guide herself with the sound of Lizzie’s steps and breathing. “Lizzie?!” she stops running when she’s far enough from the party, looking around to woods to try find the other until she got a glimpse of golden locks. “What the hell was that Lizzie?.”
And a fair warning it had been, about those rampant emotions, because though she had never been shy of admitting her jealousy, she had never been so blatantly antagonistic because of it. Yet, she can’t help the odd sense of satisfaction, as she recalls the room temperature beer falling on Alyssa’s hair and ruining her ensemble –– it was undoubtedly, a rollercoaster she hadn’t exactly signed up for, but now she had no choice but to strap herself in and hold on for the ride.
She's not oblivious to the footsteps behind her, but as much as she wishes she could outrun her –– perhaps offer an explanation when she’s had time to simmer and gather her thoughts –– Lizzie knows better than to turn the other way and attempt to run for it. Instead, she stops in place, closing her eyes and allowing her hands to unclench at her sides with an exhale as she turns around to face the object of her latest affections. What is there to say, but offer the illogical emotional reaction to Alyssa’s advances? They poke at her most prominent insecurities, the ones she carries close to her chest.
The ones that have her looking at her, as she opens her mouth to say something, anything, but her teeth clench instead. Its those same emotions though, that have her closing the distance between them in the wooded clearing, pinning Jade against the tree behind them (that cracks under her hands) –– “I’ve always hated Alyssa Chang and her stupid, twisted little games” –– and kisses her.
