“Thanks,” she deadpans, eyes rolling. “But I think I’ll have to pass this time.” Maybe Eunchae should have just stayed at home, blasted her tv or put some music on and practically smothered herself with a pillow. At that time, it had sounded unbearable way to spend her evening again but now, when she’s so flustered, it seems almost peaceful, much better than her current situation. But what remains of her pride dictates that she can’t back down now. “Definitely! But I assure you, you aren’t even a little involved whenever I fulfill my needs.” Her face still feels flushed but she channels all of her annoyance into the coldest expression she can manage. “Oh, so you do know the walls are thin? And could have been more considerate of the people living around you? Interesting.” The sound she makes is weird, something between an embarrassed whine and a choked groan of protest, and accompanied by wild gestures in Aaron’s direction. “Not on purpose! You’re just—we’re talking. Am I supposed to turn my back to you?” It’s not polite but maybe Eunchae should, at least she won’t have to face him while she continues to act like a total fool. She scoffs, surprised by the compliment and maybe just a little amused, though she wouldn’t admit that out loud. “Flattery will get you nowhere.” Does Aaron simply not experience shame or embarrassment? Somehow, every single thing he says manages to be more brazen than the one that came before it. “And no, we’re not getting to know each other. What’s happening here is that I’m trying to solve a neighborly problem peacefully while you are being a nuisance.” Strangely enough, she can sympathize with his complaints to an extent. Her cousin, Harlowe, is very much a “stuck-up, self-obsessed singer” and whilst Eunchae loves her to bits, she very much is a handful, probably even more to the people she works with. But still, this isn’t the answer she was expecting when he’d said he had a demanding job. “Please. There are much harder things than dealing with someone having a diva moment.” Once again, Aaron successfully manages to completely short-circuit her brain and she gapes at him for a while, mute and blinking like an owl. “Sorry? Did you seriously just proposition me? When there’s already someone in your bed?” It would be a lie to say she wouldn’t consider it if the circumstance had been different but, then again, if they had been different, she wouldn’t be standing here at all. Eunchae crosses her arms in front of her chest, watching him carefully. She’s never been good at picking people apart and figuring out what’s going on inside their head but she wants to know what Aaron’s thinking, if only so she could stop getting surprised whenever he next opens his mouth. “Okay,” Eunchae agrees slowly. “But just for the headphones. Don’t blatantly misinterpret things again.”
