"Don't pull the trigger!"

He did - but the man’s startled shouting, sudden and shrill, knocked his aim off and the bullet went flying just past his head. His jaw clenched in anger; he hadn’t expected Daryl to beg him, if only from his brother’s previous dying words.

“Y’better gi’me a good reason why not.”

Daryl lets out a sigh of relief he hadn’t realized he had been holding. He glances over towards the man whose life he had just saved. His own crossbow lowering after the Governor lowered his gun. The archer was surprised that the man had listened to him. He had been waiting for retaliation.

“Ya are gonna listen to me…?” He questions, his shock coming through is voice. Instead of waiting for a response he was over to the man, and pulls him up. He begins to look at the wounds adoring the other man’s face. The man was shaking from what had transpired. “Ya best be gettin’ out o’ here before he changes his mind.”

He would have spoken if not for the humiliation in his gut. He was annoyed. Angry, even. Why had he allowed himself to weaken, just to save a little face? It wasn’t as if Daryl appealed to him, he didn’t need his approval. So… why?

The Governor watched the man hastily rise to his feet before darting off. One keen eye followed his movements, eventually settling on his disappearance through the thick array of trees. The first thing he recognised once it was over, was that his hands were aching. Sure, the tug-of-war with the supply bag had been short-lived, the one-eyed man quickly switching tactics and beating him within an inch of his life before switching to his gun… but that didn’t mean that the dull throb of his fingers and knuckles was anything but valid.

"…bastard could’a killed us," he mumbled, before turning to Daryl, gaze stone-cold."He came out’a nowhere ‘nd tried t’steal from us…and y’just let ‘im go." A pause between them, but it wasn’t one of tension. In fact, the Governor’s features seemed to slacken a little in defeat. "…I don’t understand y’, Daryl."
