Wind And Water - Glass Sculptures by Shayna Leib
Shayna Leib is an American, Madison-based artist who work in a variety of mediums including ceramic, stone, metal, photography and fabric, though glass remains her profession’s material.
I often get asked how I create the sculptures in the Wind & Water series. It is a very lengthy and time-consuming process which utilizes many aspects of glassworking starting from the raw creation of the individual glass pieces in the hotshop to the “warm” process of slumping the glass in the kiln, followed by the assembly of the final sculpture.
If you haven’t liked us on Facebook yet, you should probably do that soon.

«In 1960, Xenakis composed the music NEG-ALE for P. Kassovitz’s Vasarely, an abstract film on the artwork of Op-Art master Victor Vasarely, documenting an exhibition of that painter’s work at the Denise René Gallery. Xenakis provided music in the form of a piece entitled NEG-ALE for piccolo, horn, cello and percussion, but later withdrew the work from his catalogue.» – reaktorplayer [UbuWeb]
Philharmonic Hall Szczecin
Szczecin, Poland
2007 - 2014
The building emerges from its urban context, influenced by the steeply pitched roofs and the verticality of the city’s buildings, by the monumentality of the upright ornaments of its neo-Gothic churches. With an expressionist mindset, we have aimed to use geometry to give shape to a new rhythmic composition that conveys feelings by balancing massiveness and verticality. The use of glass as the exterior cladding material highlights how the building contrasts with the conditions of its surrounding environment. It creates a bright, transparent and upstanding object. The building’s interiors are simple. The symphonic hall differs from these in that it is a sculpted object embedded into a barely outlined mineral-like space.

Concealed curtain wall supports accentuate the monumental appearance of the museum's massive 30-foot-tall insulated glass units.
Monumental walls of glass—each an insulated panel of 9 by 30 feet—ring the water court, relieving wide spans of light-gray cast-concrete blocks, the museum’s primary material. In a quiet act of daring, the glass doesn’t meet the poured-in-place floor and ceiling slabs where you might expect, but is held out at arm’s length. Above, each panel rises three and a half feet beyond the roofline to form a transparent guardrail for visitors traversing the at-grade landscaped roof, opening safe views onto the pool below.
