“Death never does…” Waverly trailed off, shivering slightly at the old memory that plagued her. It had been a warning, to the accident or more, Waverly didn’t know. But she knew there was going to come a time that she’d have to deal with this gift, this power from her father, despite how unsettling it was.
Waverly picked up the notebook and thumbed through it, exhausted from her day writing but fairly pleased with her work. “I suppose it was bound to happen, I have the feeling that things are about to get a lot more hectic around here. Maybe I should invest in a few more notebooks.” She teased, trying to make light of the situation as she turned back to Eve.
Eve knew that war talk probably wasn’t the best road to go down, and she doubted it was what either of them wanted. The park was not a place for gloomy conversation about death and destruction.
So instead, Eve looked again toward the notebook as Waverly mentioned it and decided to let her curiosity get the best of her for a little bit. “What kind of things do you write about?”

Waverly glanced across the park and then back to Eve as she spoke. She knew that the woman wasn’t much of a talker, but contrary to popular belief, Waverly didn’t need to talk all the time. Just when she felt necessary.
“Yea…” She sighed, grasping her wrists as she brought her knees closer to her chest. “Not the brightest of times right now, but I think that’s what inspired this baby.” Waverly patted the full notebook she placed next to her. “Do you have any idea who it was or who did it?”
Eve looked toward the notebook as Waverly set it down and she wondered how it was some people could write when they were feeling things. She had never been very capable of composing stories herself, and anything autobiographical was impossible to get out. She was never very good at putting her thoughts or emotions into words. That was probably because she didn’t really want to know what might come out if she tried...
Upon hearing Waverly’s question, Eve let her head rest against the trunk of the tree and looked toward the sky as it gradually deepened into warmer colors. “Not a clue,” she lied. She had a theory, of course, but that wasn’t something she wanted to risk sharing, in case she wound up sharing it with the wrong person. “But I know it’s not going to lead to anything good.”

Indigo grinned. Not how one would imagine. Not a care-free smile that lit up her face. Not one that was so full of bliss and happiness that the scar on her cheek stretched. But a drunken one. Her eyelids hanging a little heavy, her mouth left slightly agar, and one corner of her lips lifted higher then the other, happy for the drink near her, and for the other woman’s cause to celebrate. “Sounds like fun.Congratulations. ” Indigo turned when she heard a few cheers from else where, but she figured they’d been there to see the woman’s win, “Do ya normally kick people’s asses for fun?”
Indigo reached for her drink again, and took a quick sip before putting it back where it had been before. “Me?” She asked. “I ain’t dead so, the feels like reason to celebrate.” It was the best excuse she could come up with in her current state, and sounded like something someone would say.
Eve’s smug expression stuck around as she heard the girl’s question, and she shrugged as though that was a completely normal perspective on her occupation. “Oh yeah. For fun and for money. I’m living the life,” she answered as she sat her knee on top of the barstool in front of her so she could lean there for a moment.
The other girl’s answer didn’t seem the most cheery, but she could toast to that. “To living, then,” she declared as she raised her glass.

Waverly glanced at the bottles and hesitated, she hadn’t drank since the accident, and the thought of it put a bad taste in her mouth. It had changed her in many ways, besides coming to Aigaleo. “i’m fine, but I’ll sit and keep you company.” She smiled, pointing to the spot next to Eve before dropping to the ground to join her.
“How are you doing?” She questioned genuinely wondering how the woman was doing. Despite not really knowing her, Waverly wanted to get to know her. It was just her nature.
Eve wasn’t one to talk much about herself. Vulnerability was not a friend of hers, and she always feared that any kind of personal conversation would lead to the deep dark stuff she didn’t want getting out. No, she saved that for the fight. Any other kind of outlet felt like an embarrassment.
But she did enjoy the idea of a little company. Distraction tended to keep her out of her own head. “I’m okay. Better than some right about now,” she answered in vague reference to the recent news. “How about you?”

Despite times of tragedy, Waverly liked to maintain a positive and optimistic outlook. The dead body was disturbing, and Waverly exceptionally displaced, knowing that she could connect to this body. It was her powers that she kept at bay, but in times like this she felt the tug to use them, explore their depths and talk with the dead.
To get her mind off it all, Waverly had found herself in the gardens, furiously writing. It was a new short story of life and death, of sun and rain. And she wrote and wrote until her hand cramped and the sun began to set. In that moment Waverly decided she needed a change of scenery and some company. Getting up from her spot in the grass she took the typically route, keeping her eyes open to someone interesting or familiar. And that’s where she found Eve, slowly nursing a beer. “Hey there Eve.” She initiated brightly. “Funny to bump into you here.”
Now maybe she had another option.
Eve’s eyes had narrowed slightly when the girl addressed her, not recognizing her at first, but Waverly’s perky demeanor was enough to jog her memory of the bizarre butterfly conversation in the park. Maybe if the girl stuck around long enough, whatever made Waverly so crazy happy might wear off on Eve.
“Yeah, same to you...” She glanced toward the bag beside her where a few more bottle caps peeked out at the top. “Want a drink?”
indigoxxrae:
Her mind was buzzing with a familiar haze that was nearly comforting. That slight humming kept her mind off of the things that typically weighed her down. She knew the person next to her, but she couldn’t place her in her memory. Such details didn’t seem very important when Indigo’s head was a little fuzzy. A small laugh bubbled in the back of her throat though as to why she thought the woman’s sense was funny was difficult to say, “Isn’t it though? I mean, it’s just liquid. Though I reckon, more… flammable liquid.”
She held the glass in front of her and examined the drink. A mixture of Seagram’s Seven Crown, 7 Up, and ice. Her finger tips were so warm they heated the glass, the drink, and began to melt the small cubes inside. Finally registering what was happening, she put the cup down and pushed it a little ways away from her. Indigo turned back to the woman, and pretend like nothing had happened. The incident was small, and she hoped the lady next to her didn’t notice, so she didn’t bring attention to it, “Are you celebrating somethin’?”
“Hopefully not too flammable tonight,” she answered as she stared down the bartender while he added to her drink.
Eve was already too out of it to be very observant. That was one of the things she hated about getting drunk. She was always worried that something bad would happen and she would be conscious enough to do something about it, but at the same time... the alcohol fixed her worries, too, so she was feeling free tonight and took another big sip of the drink after it came back to her.
She looked back over at the girl as she asked about her celebration, and Eve gave her a mischievous sort of wink. “Hell yeah. Kicked someone’s ass tonight!” she exclaimed as she raised her glass to it, hearing her gym mates across the room cheer to that as well. Then she added, “What about you, over here? Anything to toast to?”
